  • This resin tutorial goes over how to use silicone oil and alchol to create stunning resin designs. In this video we use see the effects of silicone oil with mica powder, resin paste, and acrylic paint we also delve into the same exact process using alcohol to show how each has a slightly different effect. Enjoy!

From my experience with resin. When I get those dimples from silicone , I use a piece of fine sanding paper over those dimples then add another layer of resin for a smooth coat .

🤯You just did a Dutch pour base with dragon scales in RESIN! I had no idea that could be done in resin. I thought the base coat was beautiful. Looked like the Aurora Borealis. Great thing about resin is that you can do another layer. You can't do that with an Acrylic pour. I'm stunned and amazed.
I have 3-in-one sitting on my art desk as we speak.
Thank you SO much for stating the dangers of alcohol and heat. You're entirely correct. Alcohol can be burning and you almost can't see it. Safety first!
I also can't believe the difference between scales with the 3-in-one and the alcohol (70% won't work, by the way, at least not well. Needs to be between 91 and 99.9%).
Another safety tip ... DO NOT torch the bubbles until both the alcohol and the 3-in-one have completely evaporated, or you'll set your work on fire and likely, won't see it.
Silicone oil does the same on acrylics paints. If you want to paint over it for decorate purposes, or coat it in gesso to do-over, you must remove the silicone or absolutely nothing will stick.
I use baby wipes all the time to clean resin, but I didn't know you could get alcohol wipes. Good to know!
BTW, this is a super long video and I normally don't have the patience for these, but this video is worth watching! I almost always bypass any video more than 15 minutes (only because I've worked with resin and acrylic paints and wood for decades now), but I watched this till the end! Every minute of it. That says something.
I still can't believe what I'm seeing. You are able (because it's resin) to do a multi-layer Dutch pour and get cells .... IN RESIN! These are my colors and watching you combine acrylic pouring techniques in resin actually made me want to cry. it's so beautiful and GENIUS!
Do you KNOW how GOOD you are??!
Did you know you were doing a Dutch pour and then dragon scales, or did you just go with whatever and found it works? I'm very curious to know.
I turn pens and I would love to be able to figure out how to get this on a pen blank. Almost impossible, honestly. Has to be done on a round surface for anywhere from a slimline (9 mm thick at the most ) to the larger pens that require a 3/8 inch tube.
You're brilliant, that's already been established. I've been trying to figure out how to do something like this on a tube to accommodate a 9mm finished pen. Any ideas how to make this appear on all sides in the round for a pen?

Thank you for putting up the 😽
It scared the crap out of me when I heard your cat because I have this weird surround sound on my tablet that makes it sound like it's not coming from whatever I'm watching. I can't tell you how many times I've had to mute because of it. Your cat sounded so close to mine but off enough that it made me think he was really sick and my other cat even went looking for him very concerned. You saved me having to get up to look for him I wish more people would be that considerate.
Thanks again and I loved the video!❤

I didn't know you could use alcohol like that either. Wow! Two items that I actually have on the shelf that can totally transform my resin! Thank you so much for taking the time to share all this knowledge. Your work is outstanding. Much appreciated x ❤

So the little bit of oil left on the tray at 34:35 makes me think that you could actually apply the alcohol or oil first and then pour the color resin on top. I'm going to have to try that and see if I like the effect. I don't think those two little spots of oil actually detracted from piece at all.
The other idea I had is to use one of those combs with the bigger teeth to apply the cell agent so you don't have to put every individual dot on there and you can get more on before the resin stops moving. You could actually cut out some of the teeth to apply fewer dots at a time.
Marbling, hydro dipping, acrylic pours and cellular stuff done in resin I find to be beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for the demonstration!
