Hi Chris, nice seeing the bike come together. I like the indepth explanations on how to do things with working on the bike, Totally Awesome and Thanks !
I am aware of this illness... I have four of these. One XT and Three TT's. The flat track TT is a 600cc stroker, the Hillclimb TT is 567 cc stroker, both with insane compression. The other two are more or less stock. Love them all like children. P.S. The 600cc stroker can't be started with a kick starter, but the 567 stroker can (if you are careful)
I got some parts coming for it this next week.. (gloves, siphon blasting unit, window, etc). I’ll do a quick video on it. Don’t expect too much… just a big wooden box 😜. Was able to build it out of scrap so bonus!
I think the stock power will be plenty for your needs. My 81 xt500 is all stock with 6100 miles and never been apart and in first gear I can hit the throttle while riding and not even touch the clutch and it will come up and try and flip over. I'm like you just want to trail ride and ride around town once in a while. My bike was a one owner bike. He had it for 40 years then he past away and his family sold it to help pay for his funeral. I have the original title from the cycle shop where it was purchased. He bought it and paid it off in 8 months. He must have loved the bike. It's never been restored and looks untouched everything was there except mirrors. I took the carb off and put a more simple tt500 carb on it and runs great and no smoke. The carb for the 81 had diaphragms and looked alot more complicated do to California emissions crap even know its a TX bike. You can just tell when a bike has never been apart. I'll be watching you restore I enjoy it.
Hi Chris., I have question about the head work that was done , did you say they machined the rocker cover gasket surface? That would worry me. The rocker cover and head are machined at the factory to match each other, and any metal removal would change the cam bearing tolerances making the head tight.thats why you should never buy a head without rocker cover they are a matched set. .this what I have always been told and it makes sense
Great question. I do not believe they machined the rocker cover surface of the head… just the cylinder surface and intake. The exhaust port looks like it was bead blasted. The matched set is a good point. I have seen modified cams for sale for these bikes. Perhaps there is a tolerance that is acceptable between the cam and the head/cover races. I will have to do some research on that. Thanks for the comment.
The cam cover is indeed matched to the head, they are line bored to accommodate the cam bearings and rocker shafts, as such they cannot be interchanged with different heads.

Nice collection! Thanks for sharing. I could see how these bikes could by modified for incredible performance!
Awesome brother. Would like to see the blasting cabinet.

Could you run a double gasket or thicker one instead ?
Hi! How can I remove the rpm gear located in the head cover valve. Thank
@@Claudio-si7iw good question. Take a look at part #102-25137-00-00. I think perhaps that may do it.
@CK-Cycles hi! Thank , but I can't reach /open your suggestion .
Hi! The ratio between camshaft & crankshaft is 1:2 ,than 180 * cam =360* crank , 2 TDC =360 CAM,
