    I am in the process of restoring a 1978 XT500 and have watched most of your videos on your rebuild. They are all very well done and have been a big help with my bike. I do have a question for you. I don’t know if I missed it or not but I didn’t see any mention of the torque that you used on the head bolts. I’m also not having any luck finding it on line. Hi there, glad I came across your videos, they are great. Can I ask a question, I have the exact same xt a 77. Do you know if the fly wheel should have pick ups on it or not, mine ticks over fine but use won’t take any throttle. Running it with electronic so points ae redundant. Cheers

    • @CK-Cycles
      @CK-Cycles 18 днів тому

      @@PaulConnor-l1o good question. After this video I switched over to electric and completed a points delete. My electric works with the stock flywheel which I believe is just magnets and no pickups on the flywheel. Are your points still hooked up to the coil in addition to the electronic ignition unit? Perhaps you’re getting pre-ignition or loosing some ignition strength from one of the duplicate systems. If you figure it out, please let me know.

      @@PaulConnor-l1o ok, thanks. I had a similar issue with engine bog upon throttle opening from idle and was taking the carb on and off trying to figure it out. I finally noticed I did not reinstall the main nozzle after carb rebuild and fuel was just getting dumped past the needle. I put the main nozzle back in and it took care of the issue. I think I talked about it in video #28 of the XT series. Good luck and keep us posted if you figure it out.

So far I've only used Evaporust in it on nuts and bolts which worked great (although now they will rust again super fast unless I set up a DIY zinc plating station lol) There's a few aluminum parts I'd like to throw in there now but want to make sure they aren't going to discolor or get dull or anything like that.
