Friend of mine just ordered a Performance Model 3 and used my referral code. As I was with him at the delivery, going through the checklist, I got the 10k credits and immediately purchased the acceleration boost. I kind of wish it is added alongside standard drive instead of replacing it, but you can definitely feel the difference after having driven on standard for about 11k miles.
You should mention that if an ICE person were to try to shave a half of a second off of their vehicle's 0-60 time it would cost them about $10,000 in engine modifications.
I can buy a upgrade to my 3.0T Audi A6 for $1,100 to get a good boost. Downside is it requires an indy shop to do it, and labor costs for software install. Need vagcom to do it. But, I don't need 10k in engine mods. Will my current engine handle it, yes, will it ware out much faster..yes. Should daily drivers do this..hell no..😂😂.
Looking foward to moving into EVs, Tesla specifically, and snag a simple 2k boost which won't destroy my motor...unlike ice. Now, that will cost more than10k for a new 3.0t engine.
I mean, the bigger gap is that Tesla is the fastest SUV by WIDE margins. So if you care about speed, there is literally nothing you can do with an ICE vehicle....
A stock Model X plaid 0-60 is 2.5s.... the second fastest SUV is the 2024 Lotus Eletre R that does it in 2.95s .... that's an enormous gap.
Model Y performance does 3.5s. And the base model y does 4.8 (4.3 with this performance boost) ..... which puts it around 25th place.
Unless they pre-build it and charge later

If you talk to your service advisor at the time of buying the car, they might be able to offer you to buy it at 1k. I had two friends get offered the deal and they took it. All they did was inquire about it.

I know I am dreaming but I'd like an "Acceleration Boost" for my Performance Model 3. Under 3 seconds in a Model 3 would be really nice.
I bought the acceleration boost and like it but you quickly get used to it and want more. Haha. This is a great deal one referral to get it. Amazing deal ! it seems like a lot of money but go take your ICE car in and see what it cost to get increased performance. I did with my old BMW and it wasn't cheap for stage one tuning upgrade
Must be slow times in the Tesla vlog world. The acceleration boost has been available for a year. My Y is quick enough, I don’t use the “pedal to the metal” 0-60mph ever, even getting on the freeway. If you want to break a machine, push it to its limits over and over.

I see you have the S3XY buttons. Could you charge the car up to 100% or close to it. Then precondition the car for supercharging for about 15 minutes. Then go into the S3XY buttons app and go to the full screen display. You can turn on the beta details and it will show temperatures and HP. It also shows a “max discharge value”. I am curious to see how high you can get that HP reading to now? Mine goes all the way to 628 HP in my Model 3 Performance.

I ordered it on a Friday night for my model 3 with a potential 48 hour return but had it for a full weekend, I still own it to this date. 😃. Also, your Model Y seems a tad slow when the LR is supposed to be 4.8 0-60 before the boost, 4.3 afterwards.
what are you able to get with the model 3 accel boost? my best so far is 3.57 at 73 soc
I have seen a couple other videos where the vehicles got down to 3.8 seconds from 4.xx seconds. Don't know if it is the weight of the vehicle why your times are higher.
But anyway, I don't see myself getting this speed boost enhancement, unless I can get any future referrals to get it free. I have a 2023 Model Y long range. I use my vehicle for around town driving, not drag racing. LOL!!!! Plus I can use the $2,000 for buying accessories I don't have yet.

Your numbers seem very off, both pre- and post-upgrade. Are you gradually pressing the accelerator pedal or slamming on it?
I'm slamming it, but this is what you'll get in real conditions when the car is not full charge and the road is not perfect.
I had the same error message about modifications when I added AB last year. I thought it broke my car! I wonder how common that is and why it does that.
This should be standard from the factory. I tested my 0-60 once on my 2023 model Y today and got 4.9 seconds stock with 55% charge. I want faster but don't want to spend that much on the upgrade.
It lowers your range too I suppose. So why have the car be more expensive with it unlocked to people from the get go, with less stated range.
Instead. Limit the acceleration. Boost its range and if people want to exchange range for acceleration they can pay for it.
Same with heated seats. I don’t use heated seats ever, why would I pay for heated back seats if I never use them, I like how tesla does it.
You can set the chill mode if you don't need the acceleration, which should use less energy. It'd be nickel and dime to offer heated seats as software locked option.
They should see the stat to see if rear heated seats are used often enough to include it as standard option.

I've seen another video where a guy did 5.0 seconds and then 4.5 seconds with the AB. Another guy did 4.3 and 4.5 with AB (same road, both directions).
Edit: Gjeebs did model y w/AB verified at 4.19 and 4.22 seconds
I like when automakers understate things vs Tesla which overstates most things. e.g. 0-60, range, FSD capability. When Porsche gives a figure it’s guaranteed that you will hit or in most cases, exceed the stated figure.
On my 3 the acceleration boost was most effective right from a stop, and after 30 mph it doesn't really make a difference. Basically the opposite of what you're describing.
Awesome! About the only thing that would possibly keep me from spending $2k for acceleration boost would be if I purposely do launches often enough.
I agree, that is the way I see this boost feature being used - then you get degraded range in miles. I don't see myself going to a dragstrip to race against other vehicles - or trying to race to the next stoplight - LOL!! I think over time you would get used to this boost and not pay any attention to it.
I'd likely only do launches when I have one or more passengers to give them a 'taste' of what Tesla's can do.
Lucky you, I tried to use my credits and after receiving an error when ordering, the credit were taken from my account, but still no Acceleration boost installed…. This is very frustrating. Waiting a return from Tesla… 😮
Do a review on how much it affects your range.
It doesn't affect range at all. It simply unlocks the full potential of the front motor. There's no extra power draw except under hard acceleration.
I’d guess a lot of software work went into the acceleration boost upgrade thus the cost
I would guess that it's just putting extra strain on the batteries, if anything, and so the rate of failure would go up if enabled. I doubt this is anything other than tweaking software imposed limitations. You're probably paying for the cost of Tesla dealing with the slightly increased risk of problems.

Definitely, which is why I mentioned it's already a fast 0-60 even without the boost. Perceptions get warped as you get used to these numbers.

Here’s the crazy thing right now a MYLR with 20” induction wheels $52,490 vs MYP $54,490. So this is only a $2,000 extra cost vs AB.
Tesla acceleration values are minus the one foot rollout. Dragy is showing the value on the detailed screen that you have on the bottom at the 6:20 min mark.
The only car Tesla does that for is Model S Plaid

Does the battery SOC actually affect power on the car? I thought that was only a thing below 10%, so anything from 10-100% have the same amount of power.
Battery State of Charge affects performance some. Usually 90%+ gives you almost all of the power. With the Performance models heat in the battery actually matters more. Not sure if heat in the battery matters as much in the LR cars.
Yes, it does, but not by a huge amount. Battery voltage is reduced the lower the SoC is at. For example here are some measured/calculated numbers for a 2021 MYLR with LG batteries. At 100% SoC → 335V * 970A = 325kW max power. At 92% SoC → 327V * 970A = 317kW. Panasonic batteries are apparently better - at 70% SoC the power output is similar to LG batteries when at around 95% SoC. These numbers are taken from a German Tesla forum...

At 70% SoC on my 3 i get 3.65 sec from 4.2 before....
Your 0- 60 times a little slow pre and post. Looks slow off the line. Are you instantly pressing the accelerator to the floor? Have a Model 3 and added AB and with Draggy I get 0-60 in about 3.8.
I thought the same, mine did 5.1 und later 4.4. But was 0-100 kph, there is something wrong I think.
@@christoph7385 ...and that means knock off a .1 or.2 for a 0-60. 4.3 0-60 sounds a lot more plausible.
Battery is only at 70% state of charge. Charging it to 90+ makes a big difference.
@@gmanist1000 I can get 3.8/3.9 at 70% (3.72 at >90% my best time). As long as it is a solid 70% it still has good power. The bad times he is getting look more like below 50%.
EDIT: Just for kicks I looked in my Draggy History and I did a 3.78 (valid) with 75% SoC according to my notes on 3-6-21.
I'm instantly pressing the accelerator. Road could be dirty, traction not perfect, SoC is 70%... there's so many factors

If you floor it constantly then probably a bit, but overall it won't be that noticeable.

your draggy times are off. It should be way faster.
Unless your a very good driver; you don't really want this feature, or at least not to use without working up to it. A Y is near 5000 lbs; you'll wrap it around a tree if you don't know how difficult it will be to have it hold on a curved road. Copart is full of junked Tesla's that did exactly that. It is only going to drain your battery if you don't wreck it all together; you'll have a big reckless driving ticket.

You need to slam on pedal, not to step on pedal gradually
So why not spend a few thousand more at the time of purchase and get a performance? You get the nicer wheels, larger brakes, tires, worthless carbon fiber flair on the spoiler and a better suspension? No brainer for me!
