      A tripod clearly would not help much because of the zoom factor. Yes the tripod will help focus, but you need a much longer lens.

      yup nightmode needs a tripod. It must detect stabilization to perform it best

      @@ckdesignlab Disagree. The phone absolutely needs a tripod. Your hand shakes and the tripod is steady.

  • @AlleyAutoChicago

    Comparisons are always fun when the reviewer demonstrates to be unbiased. The phone is already at a disadvantage by default, yet the fancy cameras were the ones to get tripods while the phone was hand-held and not even with elbows tucked against the body for stability.
    Would be nice to see apples to apples comparisons or at least a fair shot for the underdog, I'm this case, a cell phone lol

    • @ckdesignlab
      @ckdesignlab 2 роки тому

      I think he showed that the phone had zero chance of winning. Doesn't matter if he used a tripod or not. It's not the camera that wins but the lens. You can't get a good shot without a good lens and no phone will ever compare. BTW his a6500 is at least five years old and it still bested the Google Pixel 6.

    • @AlleyAutoChicago

      @@ckdesignlab my point exactly. The phone was already at a disadvantage... So why compare your 2010 Lamborghini Aventador with a few performance modifications against a stock 2021 Toyota Corolla? The Aventador was destined to win already so did it really need the added help of the performance mods if the Corolla had zero chance from the start? Makes absolutely no sense.

      @@AlleyAutoChicago I get it but it's a huge thing with the photographer community. Careers are on the line if you don't make a living from this.
      I'm a full-time designer and now you have to defend work against ppl who think they know what they are doing. I got a Pixel 6 a few months ago and my 6 year old Sony a6300 takes amazing photos of the moon. He's a great photographer and there was no bias in this shoot IMHO.
      Just remember that they do this content for free to help us. It's a pain in the ass to do this work.

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 роки тому +3

      I'll have to try it next time. I would think it's reserved for actual dark sky photos (milky way type stuff), and away from the city. With my big camera, shooting astrophotography and shooting the moon are two completely separate things. Shooting the moon is actually shooting daylight, it is only visible to us cause it is lit by our Sun, so you don't need long exposures. Shooting the stars, milky way, or distant galaxies...that requires much longer, locked off (tripod), or even motorized tracking shots since there is so little light. But maybe the pixel's astro mode handles things differently.

  • @tusharwattamwar

    Using a tripod you'll get better results in any dark conditions with any camera. Get a tripod adapter for smartphones...however Pixel 6 Pro won't be able to take good moon photos. Maybe a longer Samsung optical zoom would do it much better.

    You held the Pixel in your hand when it should have been on a tripod as well. Night sight needs the phone held just as still as the camera, and why didn't you shoot them Pixel in RAW and edit the images on Lightroom like you did with the Sony? Not a good comparison in the slightest.

    The guy at the link below actually got some nice shots of the moon with the Pixel 6 Pro and explains how in this tutorial. I think if you also get a telephoto lens attachment for the Pixel it would turn out a lot better.
    ua-cam.com/video/7-hFcRKExfI/v-deo.html
    I'll stick with my Sony a6300 though and the Tamron 70-300mm, which is a full frame lens and becomes a 450mm on an ASPC sensor. Using Sony's 2X clear image zoom it then becomes a 900mm lens and looks incredible! It's on par with a $1,500 telescope. Telephoto FTW

    Not sure you gave much effort in taking a good, steady photo with the Pixel. Nonetheless, I think we all know a phone camera (not including the S21 Ultra) is going to fall a bit short of a much more expensive stand alone device.

    • @thatsginter
      @thatsginter  2 роки тому +2

      You are right, I just tested it as a casual user would instead of applying my professional photography knowledge to it. A normal user doesn't want to carry a tripod, shoot in RAW, adjust aperture, ISO, and shutter speed with a non-native camera app lol. I'm hoping for camera software updates to improve the process in the future...when that happens, I'll give it another go 😉
