People underestimate how iconic and influential Grace Jones entire persona was back in the day. She literally was the first woman really shaped like a superhero. Like the proportions of a superhero. On a woman.
so, all the haters and "inclusive advocates" are insulting one of the most iconic females in media?
So you're telling me that Rogue is modeled after a black woman and yet Rogue has no @$$ now.
@@lonew2657i mean blame that on disney plus ,in the og cartoon she did lol
I grew up watching Grace Jones...she was before her time. Tall, stunning and unapologetically avant-garde. She used to date Dolph Lundgren and they looked beautiful together, even giving him his big break in HER vehicle, A View To A Kill.
Edit: Without her, we may never have had our live action He-Man😂
@lonew2657 you do realize everything isn't about sexualizing a character, right? Lol, what's wrong with a character just being likable and written well? If you're looking for eye-candy, Google is a free service.
So, Grace Jones was the inspiration for several NON-BLACK X-Men Characters. 😅
It's funny how that kept happening 😅
Well the civil rights movement inspired the whole thing🤷♀️
You can’t make this up lol
We’re always inspiring, but never thriving.
@@trealsteve My guy they're turning almost every original white character black now tf u mean
All 70s xmen writers love grace jones cause they also wanted dazzler to look like grace jones

Grace Jones was a badass in the 80s
Agreed, she was!
She still is. She just an old badass now.
Honey, Grace Jones is STILL a badass!
No she wasnt
I always think of her scene in Boomerang at the restaurant when her name is mentioned.😂
IMO Storm's punk look was also inspired by Grace Jones' androgynous look.
I can see that! Storm's punk look is my favorite. I actually did a short on that a week ago.
Beat me to it...
Her sorceress look is way better IMO
I always hated the punk look. The classic made her look feminine.
@@utteero The punk look is as classic as what you call classic, and she's a super hero, she should look badass, not cater to your medieval beauty standards.
I always figured Grace Jones inspired 80's 90s Storm.
She did as well.
@Ironmaninfinite I said 80s and 90s Storm not 70s.
And for the that was the only character that reminded me of Grace Jones.
Iman looks more like Storm.
"But" at the end was nice😂

@@chrisjhermanbutts and shorts are always a winning combination 😅
I came to the comments for this comment
Lol
I completely missed the visual reference for that line, until reading this. 🤦🏿
Wait, so Rogue AND Dazzler were both modeled after Grace Jones?
Yeah! That why both can be blackwoman in movies for me.
Dazzler was probably based on Olivia Newton John or one of the female singers from ABBA in my opinion!
@@BigDapPacinoshe was also based off of grace too but her official appearance look probably was based off of them
The character ' Huntara" from the original/ authentic/ real , She-Ra princess of Power syndicate was also based on Grace Jones
@@PaladinodoCerradooficial Congratulations on an incredibly stupid comment/sentiment.
Grace Jones was like 60% of all X-Men. Makes sense
😂
It’s such an odd dynamic!!! Like the creators said she was the inspiration, the comics gradually made the characters look less like their original designs, and then the fans took it further by making them look even less like the original designs but then get mad at black cosplayers for actually looking like Grace Jones…
@@B_addie I think that is just people being rude to black people for any reason they can think of.
@@B_addiedid Stan lee or jack Kirby say that? Because I’m pretty sure they never did and this is all shit that other people are saying that they said.

I hope they make her like this when she makes her debut in the MCU
@@chrisjherman i wonder when this day will come!!!
I mean I wouldn't call that outdated look and funny hair "stong" and "badass." She looks way better now
I know right
@@detectivebrown6211sorry but no. Animated rouge is peak rouge. We got enough female heroes with movie rouge mannerisms.
Another X-Men that has a odd history with race is Bishop the creator of the character wanted to have him be Filipino because he was however Marvel came to him saying they wanted a new African American character so he made Bishop African American however later it’s implied Bishop is actually Australian Aboriginal with the character Gateway being his great-grandfather however then it’s also been implied that Storm might be his grandmother
So he potentially part African part Aboriginal but was originally intended to be Filipino-American
Wow! Thanks for the information on Bishop. I never knew that. That would be great for a future short!
Just because his great grandfather is aboriginal doesn't mean he can't be African American lol
@@ElektrikkissI personally headcanon Bishop as being both African and Aboriginal descent and that Shard, his sister, is blond because some Aboriginal people have blond hair.
I actually meet Whilce Portacio as a teen and he never mentioned that Bishop was supposed to be as he is a Filipino American. However he did mention that Bishop was his favorite character that he ever created. He also explained that he thought about Gateway being his family to help explain the time travel but he ultimately said Bishop was supposed to be Onslaught as at the time he was the newest Xman his power allowed him to absorb energy and the energy signature that took out Jean grey in the message was Bishops energy signature.. However same as Cable Bishop just became a popular character so they kept him a good guy.
@@genevieve7676 he's basically First Nation Aboriginal
Let's all be honest...we had a crush on rogue when we were young😅
Absolutely! 😆
She was my teenage heart throb
Hey! Dont speak for me!😂 Storm was my main (shyt, still is!)....Rogue was my side
She had the curves. Her belt hung off of her. She had a sexy raspy voice, and she was horny AF flirting with even bad guys. Made my tummy feel funny when I was littlee
Storm for me!
Fun fact. Rogue's turn towards becoming a hero in the comics was a result of trying to absorb (licensed character) Rom the Spaceknight's powers, gaining some of his personality traits in the process.
Rom issue 32. That was a very freaky story.
Rom was the best toy inspired comic book. Would love a movie about the space knight
I thought that was ms. marvel's influence on her.
They failed to mention that Rogue's flight and super strength come form the fact that Rogue absorbed Captain Marvel's powers and put her in a coma. Now Captain Marvel's consciousness is in Rogues mind while Captain Marvel is in the hospital in a coma.
I dint remember Rouge being honorable.
That was her signature air roll kick in X- MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER.
That's right! So glad they included it in the series
Its a Rider Kick from Kamen Rider series.
Her air-roll kick is included in both the original animated series and this iteration, too.

Dang, good history lesson on Rogue, BUTT....
Thank you so much! She has a pretty rich history
I do like the idea of rogue being a southern black girl raised in a strict no-nonsense family, it just fits. Explains her not fitting in because she wants to explore different desires that are taboo in her culture... But I like her current version just fine
Thankfully Storm delivered on every aspect of being the embodiment of Grace Jones!!!!
Artist: "You said her name is Grace right? Say no more fam."
And 2 think just last year on Twitter, a certain "group 🙎🏼🙎🏻♀️* of people were GOING IN on actress Keke Palmer, accusing her of trying to make Rogue "woke" & ✌🏾stealing✌🏾1 of their beloved icons when she superimposed her face over Rogue's saying she'd love to play her in a movie. The IRONY 😑.
I'm not a big Keke Palmer fan, but I'm curious who they'll cast for the MCU X-Men
@chrisjherman Yeah. I'm not a fan either, but it just tickled me how many "people" of a certain demographic got mad at her even expressing interest in the role as a black woman, not knowing the intended history of the character's creation.
@@chrisjherman I don't doubt for one second that Keke could bring Rogue's signature sass to life and she looked great in the photoshopped pics as Rogue.
Just because her design in concept was inspired by a black woman. Doesn't mean the character should be played by a black woman.
Rogue is a white woman, changing her race is racist and woke.
Or are you saying any Black Fairy character is not allowed to exist?
@phonicrose8395 Unless along with being played by a black character they also make the focus about black issues, thete is no "woke" really involved. Please learn how to have more nuanced ways of seeing things.
Also, to this day I hate how "woke" was hijacked a few years ago. Woke didn't mean being super liberal, feminist, LGBT, or race focused. It really meant people who could see the bigger picture about the world around us or the info most of the masses readily accept. It meant they questioned things, used critical thinking, read between the lines, etc... It had absolutely nothing to do with liberals vs conservatives. In fact, most who would've been considered "woke" in the original context would be those who understand the 2-party system in itself has been detrimental to the public and made the political process much easier to manipulate. And the fact that BOTH parties will protect the wealthy over the 98% when it comes down to it, one party is just more upfront about it.
She definitely is one of my favorites
One of my favorites too!
Nice pun at the end.
Thank you!
Interesting that you say that, I'm 49 and had original X-Men comics in my teens. Ironically Storm's original look was more like Grace Jones. The whole feel was more dark and grunge, loved it💥!

No.
@@chrisjherman uhh, no. That's not even what you said in the video.

The popular design of rogue, as shown in the animated series, was created by Jim Lee. Respect on the name please.
You're a very angry person, aren't you?
@@chrisjherman not really. Im just saying.
Jim Lee didn't create the character though. He just created her most popular look back in the nineties. Rogue had other designs back in the eighties before Lee.

Nobody's saying Rogue's race should be changed. It is what it is now & I love her as she is. The POINT IS the fact so many wyte people get their panties in a bunch when a fictional wyte character is made non-white, when most REAL LIFE HISTORICAL FIGURES that were black were white-washed.
