This whole barcoding stamps fiasco would not be so critical if the post office had retained its mail delivery natural monopoly. You will never eliminate counterfeit stamps and people will not pay the outrageous £5'penalty because the sender bought the stamps not the fined receiver.

My understanding is that some of the counterfeit stamps were bought from Post Offices.

So people are buying cheap stamps off ebay and amazon and expect them to be real? I have no issue with fining them.
Please also investigate why I am still waiting for 4 months for a letter to be delivered after asked to pay £5.00 by the Post Office.

I already had to send off a book of stamps for replacement when they introduced the bar codes, let's not encourage them to do another pointless swap or worse.

Good scam , post office ! Take profits out to cover the travel/delivery costs buy using fake stamps but bill the consumer the same amount , knowing the fakes are less than half Price

On a serious note who uses stamps ? ... I suspect 95%+ of all royal mail letters\parcels are from franking machines for retailers or companies. I think very few individuals sent letters with stamps by comparison.
