    Whenever there's newsreel of the
troops of the " Old Reliables " 9th Infantry division on patrol in the Mekong Delta I try and make sure I view it. The 9th Infantry division has special meaning to me, my Dad arrived in Vietnam in March of 1968 and was assigned to Co B 3rd BN 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry division. Their base camp was called "Bearcat." I too had the privilege of serving with HHC 2nd BN 39TH Infantry 9th,Infantry division, FT Lewis Wa from March of 1978 to August of 1980. God Bless all those who served with the 9th Infantry division.

YEAH GOD BLESS ALL THE AMERIKKKAN SOLDIERS WHO COMMITED WAR CRIMES AGAINST THE VIETNAM PEOPLE. STOP BELIEVING THE BULL SHIT FROM RONNIE RAYGUN THAT VIETNAM WAS A NOBLE CAUSE. THE VIETNAM WAR WAS FOUGHT TO DEFEIND THE CORPORATE CRIMINALS THAT RAN SOUTH VIETNAM. YOUR DAD AND FELLOW SOLDIERS WERE NO HEROES, BUT MERELY TOOLS OF AMERICAN IMPERILISM. THEY WERE NO DIFFERNT THAMA.NT THE NAZI SOLDIERS WHO KILLED CIVILANS AND THEN THERE ONLY DEFENSE WAS THEY WERE FOLLOWING ORDERS. YEAH ORDERS FROM WAR CRIMINALS LBJ A ND NIXON, 2 OF THE CROOKS WHO PLOTTED TO KILL JFK.

A friend of mine, Eddie Hollman from Minnesota was injured there in 1968. Stepped on a land mine which caused the loss of his leg (and massive scars). Eddie was a good man. But sadly, we lost touch over the years.

This was Forrest Gump’s unit. The ambush in the movie took place in June 1967.
I know it’s just a movie, but they depicted these men respectfully and ended up doing so much for Vietnam vets and future vets, especially Gary Sinise, by being awareness.

That ambush was detailed in a book called The Boys of 67. Which is about the 9th ID in Vietnam.

Given the waterborne nature of the mission in the Mekong Delta, I've wondered why that mission was not given to the Marine Corps which would seem a more natural use of forces. My guess is that Westmoreland was partial to Army units. Westmoreland had served in the 9th during WW2 and reconstituted that unit as a riverine force during the Vietnam War.

To bad everything the headquarters did in Saigon was compromised because of a double agent. No one was ever brought to justice.
