Kitbashing an Onager TANKHEAD

- I decided to make a video breaking down how I made my latest kitbash, which also covers a little of how I do stuff in general.
This whole thing was inspired by Emerson Tung's TANKHEAD which you can check out here: • TANKHEAD - Narrative ...
00:00 Intro
00:40 Figuring out Kits
02:20 Building
12:12 Painting
17:02 Completed Model
Every now and then the UA-cam algorithm tosses out a real treat. Loved this video, look forward to seeing more of your stuff
I have been blessed by the machine spirits and their algorithms, thanks for taking a look at my stuff
if you watch a ton of 40k/model stuff it suggests some great smaller channels all the time. People complain about the algo but I find it works great for me ;w;
can confirm.
This kitbash is awesome! Well done! 👏👏👏 Definitely would love to see a painting video of one of these Bois 👌
Thanks, there's a little painting at the end, and I have done a few streams for it, but I could make a more dedicated painting video if people are interested
@@DumbRobotStuff i think you should, plenty of people like myself enjoy that kind of content. Awesome work
I like the false head with the vision port being located in the chest. Also good gundam vibes with the upright pose.
I do like my upright mechs, 40k doesn't seem to have many so I just end up making them myself a lot of the time
Easily one of the best kitbashing (in actual meaning of the word, not just throwing more or less random bits on the model) videos out there. Subscribed!
The terminology can get a little messy, this one is definitely building by mixing (mostly) two kits, but I've had builds which are made from random bits coming from so many different kits, is it kitbashing? converting? greebling? Hard to say at times
the more kustom is scratchbuilding. the less converting. kitbashing is middle between the two.@@DumbRobotStuff
Not that heavily in to 40K but love tanks and mechs and was just talkin with my friends couple of days ago how tank mechs are such a cool concept. I think the algorithm overheard me on that. Amazing work and a glorious end result!
Thanks, you should definitely check out TANKHEAD then, a whole built around cool tank mechs
A house painter tip to use on masking tape: place the tape, then paint a layer of the base coat. That way, any bleed under the tape is the same color as the base. Then after that dries, paint the second color. When you peel it off, you get a clean, crisp edge.
I've never heard that before! Thank you!
Always love the “tank head” designs. They have a more grounded approach to what a mech would look like.
I just stumbled across TANKHEAD and your video came up. It was really fun to watch and hear your thought process.
spent some weeks trying to kit bash / 50% scratch build a 15mm scale tankhead based on a Sd. Kfz. 232.... god it was brutal working at that scale... and then a flood robbed me of it.
your videos inspired me to order another kit to bash... this time in 28mm!! I cant believe how tidy the whole thing looks. beautiful work!
Always happy to inspire more mechs being made, good luck
Great video. Lovely conversion. I love the side-by-side video style. I love that you gave us a nice long reveal shot at the end to admire all your beautiful work. I have a preference for brighter colors but the grey tone you painted was skillfully done and looked very professional when finished.
Thanks, my admech scheme isn't super interesting being mostly grey, but I've found ways to make it work with the levels of highlighting and little bits of colour around it
What a wonderful creation! I can smell the engine oil from here. 😄
this video is a rare YT algorithm W, fantastic video mate!
Saw the picture on twitter, great to see a video. I love the clean designs from tankhead but im sure they would look as cool with rust, battle damage, mud on the legs, oil streaks around the joints and soot all over the exhausts.
Yeah you're right there's definitely fancier stuff that can be done, I tend not to do a lot of weathering, kinda because I've not practised it that much, but also because I spent so long building it and making it look good, I don't want to make it look that dirty or damaged
First time here, great video. Love you detailing the background materials you used in the design
Man. If only my own conversions and builds looked this good!
gotta not worry bout $$$ and just go wild. that is the secret. oh and having tools, glues, paints and stuffs.
Way back when Tau first came out I kitbashed a Tau Titan from a Lego Bionicle as the skeleton, worked out quite well. I always figured the Tau titan would convert into a jet/aerial vehicle to drop in to get the mission done and fly away after :P
this was brilliant, I saw the finished build on yt shorts and instantly subscribed, absolutely love this build.
Thanks for checking my stuff out and subscribing
Finally an admech channel! Beautiful stuff! Really love this kitbash / conversion!
This is awesome. I'm currently aiming to do walker-tanks for my Pirate Imperial Guard army and... man I wish I'd thought of doing it this way before I bought stuff. *applause*
"I'm more of a crafter than a painter "
Proceeds to make a beautiful paint job ..
I don't wargame at all, just love TTRPGs, mini painting, terrain building, "mini" painting.... But mechs are sick, and this is some primo excellent Dumb Robot Stuff. Killer work dude.
Thanks, and I am more into the building and painting side of it myself, it's a fun way to bring some ideas to life
Great video! I love seeing everyone's conversion process. All your builds are great, but this one is my favorite!
glad I could give a little insight in to how I do it all, I've learnt a lot from seeing other people's so I figured I should show mine
Insane kitbash dude, subscribed. We've all seen the inverse where the Onager legs get used for the Knight Armiger but this, is truly inspired
That dunecrawler looks amazing, the arms especially. Loving it! I have no idea why i suddenly got an admech video in my feed but im glad the algorithm did! The machinegod exists. You have a new subscriber!
I have been blessed by the machine god and it's almighty algorithms
I think i saw one of your models pop up on my twitter feed yesterday and now it's in my youtube recommended. Absolutely awesome work I love it!
Thanks
These are so excellent. I love the explanation of the bits you used and your inspiration. Your models are masterpieces.
instant fan... you don't how much i've been thinkering on finding way to make those kind of mecha like tankhead in 40k! Your stuff is amazing!
I had no clue your channel was so new! I love your stuff, and have been binging since I discovered you
Duuuude!! I have been really wanting to get in Warhammer, not for the game but for the building/painting, but I have other things that require I spend my money/time on, mostly music as I'm a drumming instructor. This was soooo sick! I was sad after I watched this and saw there was only one other long form video that you made. Keep uploading man you just earned a sub, I really want to see more! Until I can get into this hobby I'll live vicariously through you! Can't wait for the next kitbash!!
I saw the thumbnail and instantly heard the phonk music start in my head, I knew I had the gem of the month on my hands.
Love the panel shapes on the arms and legs…novel, and works well with the aesthetic.
So glad this was suggested to me - amazing work. This is so damn cool
Love the video, wish there was more so i could binge them. Although the side by side took my attention away from watching the process. I love watching kitbashing videos and seeing the painting pricess.
This is literally the cutest lil robot kitbash and i...desperately want one for myself now 😆 🤣
Incredible work dude!
Looking forward to seeing whatever comes next 😁👍🏻
The algorithm delivers once again! Love this guy, I'm sure the AdMech has no idea how to stop him from slowly rotating like that.
welp ..i found u now ...and ill never leave as a fellow robot kitbasher this stuf just hits the spot
Thats some pro level kitbashing! love it
Saw some of your stuff on Twitter not too long ago (Your recent redemptor has been a massive inspiration and I'm trying to replicate parts of it on a leviathan) but seeing this is on a whole new level! The tankhead build is already incredibly impressive, but seeing your full process is super inspiring!
I've been trying to kitbash since I first got into the hobby, and at times it's difficult to work out exxactly how I'll execute an idea. Hearing your process for starting, planning and completing a build is extremely helpful; and i'm fully planning on using it for my next build!
Hope to see more from you man, it's incredible stuff to see!
Glad I can help with explaining my kitbashing. I slowly worked my way up to this point, I stared off with just simple head/weapon swaps and just changed a little bit more of each kit and trying out a new technique or two along the way
This is dope. This is definitely what I think of skitarii creations actually looking like... Great job! For not being a "painter" you've definitely produced a strong looking paint job /scheme!
I SAW YOUR PROGESS ON TICKTOK!! I'm so glad i found you here.
I was excited to watch your other videos, but there is only one other!
Man, i wished you had videos like this for the rest of you conversions, they are awesome! You deserve way more recognition!
I've only just started making videos on them, but I've been explaining all my conversions as I build them on twitter for a while if you wanna see
I do like Emersuntung’s artwork, i am much fonding on his Samurai themed machine mechas i was on.
Might not have been your intention, but seeing how simple your painting is and yet how good it looks, gives me courage :-D
Definitely my intention, like I said, I don't consider myself a great painter or anything, I just do relatively simple stuff with a few tricks/techniques to get a decent paint job, kinda quickly and easily. I'm glad I can encourage others with it too
@@DumbRobotStuff Well, kinda meant to say that it might not have been the point of this video ;-) And one way or another: thanks for making the video and inspiring!
Great tutorial and showing your process and the end result is amazing!
i love this kitbash, its very well done. the only thing i would have changed is i would try to make the gap between the top of the head and the turret alittle smaller, seeing that the turret ring is a weak spot. but besides that little thing this is a great model keep up the great work
Oh dang I have been following you on Twitter/X and now you are on my YT..Yessss!!!
I cannot wait to devour these vids.
Subbed!
Perfect! I need to learn how to draw robots and machines so I'm glad I found a fellow mech nerd to follow!
Nice, I take a lot of inspiration from drawings of robots myself (like Emerson Tung's designs for this video), so hopefully it all carries through and there's some helpful stuff for you here
Dayum bro!
[NEW KITBASHING IDEA UNLOCKED!]
Just got thrown this by the algorithm, this looks fantastic. If you haven't already done so, you can probably use the Taurus Tank for the chest of the Spaher.
I did look into it since it does have the right kind of chest/cab, but I'm not sure the scale would match, so I'd need to get my hands on the parts to test it out first
This is absolutely awesome. I never heard of tankhead but it's kinda what I want lol
Thanks, I'm always happy to help spread the knowledge of cool robots
BT !!!
I've been seeing tankheads on Pinterest a lot too. love those lil robot things.
I'm not even a Warhammer player (yet) but I've been collecting 3D models for it recently and I threw some models together to make a District 9 exo suit inspired Armiger Knight
Randomly recommed video, absolutly love these. Subscribed and looking forward to what else you come up with
How have I never found this channel before,I love listening to people talk,I love watching scratch/model bashing,I love diesel punk, and I love mechs, this Channel is great
And reading the other comments it seems a lot of people do too
Thanks the algorithm gods for delivering unto me this masterpiece, awesome work, wish i could even do 1% as good
Thanks, and it all comes down to practising, I started with simple head/weapon swaps and slowly changed more with each build and tried new techniques until I got to where I am now
This looks absolutely stunning! Good job! 😍
Really fucking sick conversion dude, I loved the whole process you went through and how you explained and documented everything along with little tips.
Thanks, I try to show how and why I do stuff in case anyone wants to try it themselves
dude you have some of the best pure warhammer kitbashing i’ve seen, the overall lack of greenstuff being used is refreshing
Subbed!.
Ordered the tankhead book and will start a project in a similar fashion.
I'm absolutely inspired and love kitbashing/conversion projects.
Keep up the great work!.
Great conversation, looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks, and as for more conversions, I don't have full video breakdowns of them, but I've got a whole bunch more posted on my twitter
Beautiful kitbash! Can't wait to see more videos from you!
It's beautifully done. Can't wait for your future projects.
Thanks, I've got a lot more stuff on my twitter/instagram if you're interested, I've only just started making videos on my builds
I found your content on tiktok, but finding out you have a UA-cam channel that goes into detail about your builds is fantastic! And your voice is great with your explanations of what your doing
This is truly exceptional. Good stuff!
Ver cool. Would love to more of the painting process
This was a very fast subscribe for me, I love your work and am looking forward to seeing more in the future
Amazing kitbash! I'd never heard of TANKHEAD before so thank you for introducing me to some awesome art as well :)
This channel has so much potential, marking myself here for when it grows
Absolutely fantastic video! The Spinning progress preview to the side of your actual work was a great touch. Make sure you don't stop now, give me more good stuff!
Follow you from Twitter
Your work inspire a lot of my work
What ever happen
You have fan follow and admire your work
Never let whatever make you down
Love your work
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad to know people like my stuff
This randomly came up on my home page and I am glad I checked it. This is amazing and couldn’t look away! Dying to see more titanfall style builds
This is awesome. Well done!
This is so cool I would love a lore video on the background of the modles
Wow, this is amazing! Bravo!
That came out awesome! Nice work
Love this! Great work
Amazing work!
mad props your lines and forms are inspiring...
Great channel. Hope we see lots more videos like this.
This is so crazy. You're so good at this.
Thanks, I just see a lot of cool robots I want to make and have practised converting enough to give it a go
love this! subscribed before vid even finished! look forward to seeing more of your work!
This looks amazing. I absolutely love it
Wonderful work. This is awesome!
You’re an artist sir
This video saw me buying Tung's book after watching. Imho they owe you a small stipend.
New sub. One video and I'm in!
Thanks for the suggestion UA-cam!
Great stuff ! Really enjoyed the video. A few things that i’d like to try. Keep up the good work.
If you can get your hands on the epic scale knights and titans there are some highly detailed parts that make for interesting conversion opportunities, would be great to see more of your work
I have used to epic scale questoris knight hands as admech style powerfists before, but yeah there's a lot of good parts in those kits
Great work!
Love this heresy absolutely love it.
That looks excellent mate
Looks awesome.
Fantastic Work !
Y'know, this feller looks a lot like the Guttertank from Ultrakill, though that may mostly be that sloped cabin.
Wonderful job, either way!
I started making this dude before layer 7 came out, and played through it while building, it's a nice coincidence, though it's a little big to go with my V-1 inspired sicarian
If you want cables or pipes that hang loosely, you might want try taking them from USB cables. Multi strand cable will last long time though not sure how well paint sticks to PVC. Other trick is to find cord in your liking and stick steel wire trough then shape and add little CA glue on the ends or coat the entirely to stiffen them up.
Phenomenal work, very inspiring! I bet you would love using the great bits you can harvest from a old VCR/VHS player.. just a random thought. Keep making great stuff!
instant subscribe, cant wait to see what you come up with next
This is amazing inspiration and makes for great background sound while i craft cardboard mecha thanks for sharing you got a new sub
Glad I can be of inspiration, and happy to be any part of mecha creation
It's the Guttertank from Ultrakill, extremely blessed
