We ordered one a few weeks back, the range is not at all an issue for my family with a 15 mile a day run will easily last a week and 90% of journeys 2 people. Love the handling on the test drive and the quality is far better than a lot of EV's . I actually think BMW have got it right here as most Mini's are second cars and journeys are on average well within the range. Cannot wait for production to restart when we recover as a nation.
Its like having a small car vs a big car. Do you need al that space to move stuff around? Maybe a few times a year. Same with the range, most people can do their daily things with the range, if you ever go on a roadtrip or whatever you need a different car, is all depends how often make a big trip.
Just bought one to replace my Cooper S manual . I do 10000 miles a year but is a 42 mile round trip to work every day and is a second car so works perfectly for me. Previously had a Tesla Model S and only ever fast charged it on holiday trips.
Dunno if anyone cares but if you are stoned like me atm you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother for the last couple of months :)
I think BMW has a pretty specific target customer group. They target at people who are living in the suburbs, and require a daily runabout, and they got another fuel-based car at home. And the Mini is great by having a smaller battery to shorten charge time, somehow improving mobility. If I were to live not too far away from where I work, I would say this is the electric car to go for
Mini Coopers have always been designed for the city driving. So, maximum range of 144 miles should be enough for most people. BMW's decision of putting a small battery to the car also contributes to maintain famous driving characteristics of the car and keep the price affordable.
Hi, Can you explain fast charging please ! I’m just about to order this vehicle,is fast charging the cable or the power point? I live near a 22W street electrical point & near a electric lamppost. Can I fast charge from there ?
Range is fine for estate agents/posers. Would have been (just) ok for our retirement trips to Sainsbury/Tesco except we now always get food delivered and everything else from Amazon/Ebay in 2020. Our BMW X 1 and 3 CC sit dusty on the drive with flat batteries. Neither of us miss going shopping, but we are appreciating the clear sky and cleaner air (in Devon , on flight route to US, Carribean & S. Spain) ;)
Nearly everyone now knows you get about 3-3.5 mikes per kWh in local driving. We nearly all charge from home too so can do our own sums on battery size and range.
I'm not sure what it is about the mini elecric specifically where the wheels look comically small... I know the ride height is a tad taller but I don't think it's just the wheel design.
Problem for the Mini as is today here in North America is the range. Though the average person here might only drive about 50 to75 miles daily...it is not uncommon to havr to drive accross town several times per month. I live in the Dallas Metro area...an area over 120 miles accross and 80m miles north to south. You can see how this fact might work against such a limited range ev like the Mini. I think 200 miles is the absolute floor Stateside.
I love the car but in my view the limited range takes away from the flexibility of having this as your only car. I wouldn’t want to make any trips out of town with this one, for example. The Mini seems suited for people who also have another car in the garage - which is a shame in my book. It’s such an appealing car form every other perspective
Exactly its a ideal daily car for most people. If you want to take longer trips often (for work or family) this is not your car. But do you need a car to drive to work (in the same town) and drive your kids to practice its ideal. But it is indeed (like a lot of minis) more of a "second" car.
@@Markuden Or, you live in the Netherlands where every corner of the country is within a 150 mile range. And after a drive like that, I'd certainly want to stretch my legs and in 10 minutes you add like 40 miles on a fast charger. I don't think there is a good or bad range on an EV. It's either enough, or it isn't.
Good morning ! Can you fit a duel control break pedal for driving instructing tuition? I was told possibly because it’s very similar to the petrol version in construction Ps I’m from the uk 🇬🇧
Unfortunately I don't have the budget for a second car, so as my only car, I live 260 miles away from my furthest relative, so I'd have to stop half way, and an already 4 - 5 hour journey with added stoppage time it would take even longer to get there, so sadly it isn't the one for me.
Electric vehicles are great ! No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs. Gas and diesel are OLD polluting technology. So last century.
But to make the batteries for an electric car you produce more emissions than an average petrol car does in 10-15 years depending on how much it's driven.Electric cars are not as clean as people believe.
@@dakosmith6 Battery technology is improving all the time, whereas petrol and diesel are about as good as they're going to get. Buying electric helps focus that technology.
During lockdown it has enough range. I have had a Zoe ZE40 for three years and wouldn't go for a car with less range. I can get to the coast and back without faffing around charging the Zoe, this wouldn't be the case with the Mini.

It has been a deliberate choice, based on market studies: most people do not need more range in their daily use. More battery means a higher price and more weight
