Under the thrall of Square Enix, Platinum Games has delivered a true masterpiece of awfulness in Babylon's Fall. This live service trash is really bad. Really, really bad.

I've noticed a pattern when it comes to Platinum games: their worst games tend to be the ones that just scream "the publisher was breathing down our necks." And this one is no different. This game feels like Platinum Games wasn't given enough time to give it proper polishing cause Square Enix just wanted them to shit it out as quickly as possible.

From what someone said above, Platinum had basically a complete game when Square told them to scrap it and do something entirely different. They're clearly capable of making amazing games when left to their own devices, so why are publishers forcing them to produce rushed shit?

I think Platinum is also one to blame the CEO Atsushi Inaba said that he want to made "Live Service" games, also the time for the game was OK it's first trailer was on 2019 the same year of Elden Ring, so both takes the same amount of time, funny to see the difference in quality, to me the biggest problem of Platinum Games, is they take too many projects at the same time

Never underestimate corporate greed friend, they can take a studio that once made great products and turn them into short-notice swill-makers who exist only to shove as many marketing buzzwords into the product as possible (can you say online live service content roadmap microtransaction MMORPG-lite battle pass AAA money cash dollar three times fast). Unfortunately these producers now only produce playable games by accident apparently, and a good game takes an even greater fluke. It has to escape the notice of the corporate marketing executives who moonlight as actual vulture's, evade the upper management cutting the talent from the development studio so they can grab bigger bonuses, and be in a position where the employees actually want to develop this game, unlike the more common clockwork orange style forced labour that goes on in the AAA gaming mines. I mean look at Raven Software, once a bastion of amazing action games like Jedi Knight Outcast, now condemned the Call of Duty mines forever more by Activision-Blizzard overlord Bobby Kotick.
If there is something good in your life that you actually want to buy, well, these people don't understand that and only see you as a bag full of liquid cash to be drained to the last drop by the cheapest means possible.

Of course that's because the combat was incredibly satisfying, and the corridors with occasional puzzles exist as a pacing mechanism to stop the constant fights getting too repetitive.
Of course the level design won't work if instead of 'satisfying combat' your main design consideration is 'flog cosmetics '.

If you can ONLY describe something as being "corridors into room" that's where there's a problem. because otherwise every single linear game is technically speaking corridors taht lead to combat encounters.

Keep in mind that whenever America talks about taking away social rights from the poor, they just as frequently coddle and protect the rich from ever feeling the burden the "lesser" classes have to go through. Every major corporation has more rights than you or I do in America.

Live service games make more money than traditional singleplayer games, so as far as the publisher is concerned, there is no other option.
The problem with capitalism here is not that publishers want to make money, that's not a bad thing necessarily. Like you said, you can make great games that sell well and make good profit.

Some of the best looking stuff is behind the hardest content, I actually recognize some of those armor pieces in the articles as pieces I've *thrown out because I didn't like how they look*
    amazing.
And just as a point of humor; FF14's dev team is aware of the graphical issues and one of the huge things they talked about in a recent live stream discussing the future of the game is an absolutely massive graphical overhaul since it's so outdated. Tired of the politics, tired of the messages, tired of the problems, tired of the world. To the point of increasing hostility, with no way of escape to aid in stress relief or anger management.
No matter where you look nowadays theres some sort of agenda being shoved into your skull. People's only escape from the hellscape of reality, media, has been drowned by them lately. If I were to give an example, that new Lord of the Rings movie that they're planning on making, that tosses all the story that had been made about dwarfs out the window. On the author's birthday, they proceed to announce a complete bastardization of the original work. Stuff like that keeps happening across all of media. It's both infuriating and depressing.
I'dve loved to see a badass lady dwarf with a beard bigger than any man in a galaxy's distance, donning cool looking dwarf armor. Like what was written about already. That'd be worth looking forward to for a change. Alas, they just ignore what's been made already and replace it with...to be frank: mediocre-at-best, fast food style products. It's almost comedic how little they care or try, if it werent so saddening. I imagine some people see this happen and get so fed up they blame the groups being represented directly instead of the companies for making a shit product. Sorta like how russians are being treated right now.
*oh and yes, both twitter and facebook are the worst torture devices devised by humanity, dont use them. disable both your facebook and twitter accounts if you have them, and dont use those bloody sites. You will be much happier without them.

That blur could be chromatic aberration setting...it's in every game now days, and usually automatically on... I HATE this stupid setting and ALWAYS check if I can turn it off in every game I play that has it!

Can't wait to see your thoughts as you ever so briefly look back at this game at the end of the year.

Lets hope the year isn't so shitty this game doesn't even manage to make the list lmao

I had to do a double take when I saw the FFXIV armor lmao. Impressive how they made the same asset look worse than it looks in the 10+ years old original game though.
Great video though, this has to be one of the most savage tear-downs you've done in a while.

Looking at the game footage made me realize what it feels like to have a vision impairment. Like I'm wearing a friend's prescription glasses out of curiosity.

Even though I heard you talk about the way the game looks multiple times, I still kept checking to see if the quality on the video dropped.

That's some filter. I kept thinking that UA-cam had bumped the video down to 480p every time I looked away then looked back at it...

You got a good deal out of it, Stephanie. For me it costs 70€ on Steam.
Guess they know it is trash that no one will play for long, might as well try to get as much money as possible from the sales.

The whole live service model does not work. Just because one game did it well (the Division) does not mean every game has to be one.

Between this game’s release and them talking about being completely open to tencent style buyouts, i’ve a strong feeling platinum’s days are numbered…
