Lovely to see you guys are having a great time in Amsterdam. Twisting your tongue on Dutch pronunciation and being infectiously nerdy and enthusiastic about trams. Keep up the good work. Groeten uit 🇳🇱
Grade separation = no level crossings means tunnels and/or elevated ways. Segregation = lane separation, separation kerbing, lane segragation, bus or tram exclusive lanes, bus or tram priority lanes (can be with signal priority but with level crossings)
That Dutch bike path under the station was so cool! For a long time, I used to watch a Live Webcam from The Netherlands from a station called Meirlot-Houte. One of the trains that went by, looked a little like the one you were on, the one that was white with blue trim! Lots of fun, there!
There is no station in the Netherlands called "Meirlot-Houte". I think the webcam you mean is from the station Helmond 't Hout, which on its webpage is (wrongly) called by the name of the neighbourhood it sits in: Mierlo-Hout. And it is served by Netherlands Railways (NS) trains which, though both are white with blue trim, are rather different from the Amsterdam City Transport (GVB) trams shown in this video. Although both are the same gauge, the technical specifications are so different that they actually can't run on each other's track.
It is good to know that the alignment of route 26 (the tunnel part) was once supposed to become a metro, but they didn’t have enough budget, and metro’s are sort of a taboo here. Line 25 (bar the extension from westwijk to Uithoorn) was actually part of the metro system untill 2019, using high floor teams interoperable with metro infrastructure, with half of the line being heavy metro. and the other portion being lightrail, while sharing tracks with tramline 5 in Amstelveen.
@@MassbyTrain A lot of my experience is with the MAX light rail, which has both, depending on where you are. From this video, a lot of it looks like it could be "light rail", but some of it is more "street car". We should argue about these distinctions to boost engagement.
There is none. Tram is all-encompassing and light rail excludes some uses of trams (definitions only used you in North America) but generally means the same thing.
Amsterdam is on the top of my bucket list to visit but dont they ever mow the grass in public areas? We could never do that in Sydney, too many snakes. Well researched report.
There needs to be light rail in New York City, in the Bronx and Queens, and somebody's come up with an idea as to how that could be done: ua-cam.com/video/J6YoMY-z8SA/v-deo.htmlsi=TeROe95b6eISrLgn

Great content. New UA-cam prodigy in the making. Keep it up👍🏾
Very inspiring stuff over there, thanks for sharing it with us! :]
Line 26 will be extended as well. Can't wait!

You can also film hague rotterdam tram train which connect 2 cities together
that video is coming soon (ish)!
Let me be the first person in the comments to start a pedantic discussion about the difference between "light rail" and "tram".
Tram has mostly street running and lower speeds but light rail is higher speed higher capacity more grade separated

It has changed a lot since I lived there in 1999.

No snakes in Amsterdam (except (escaped) pets).
I love amsterdam my father worked here and planning to move here
Siemens combinos are good trams the ones on the 26 route are the same as the D2 class in Melbourne
they’re definitely workhorses, but i have to say the CAF 15Gs are better - they have AC, which is very nice in the summer!

comparing the netherlands to new jersey is crazy
but yeah in some ways it is kinda HBLR-esque
You pronouncing Dutch is so funny
try to pronounce it like it is, the next time. IJburg is like I-burg. Like in I am. Not how you say it like A-burg
oh huh, i thought it was more like "ey-burg", thanks for the info!
in my defense, dutch things can be REALLY hard to pronounce
