Civil engineer here: If u cut the tree that’s right next to the house, it may cause issues with the foundation as the roots of the tree will no longer be drawing water from the ground. The water table would then be a bit higher causing the soil to swell. The foundation issues/differential settlement u have right now are also probably because of that tree and the hydrostatic pressures under the house and the shrinkage of the soil. If u are going to cut the tree, maybe cut the tree first to observe any damage as well as not having to worry about falling debris on a new roof?
Those old boats make excellent raised flower beds! You can sit it on a slight angle and if you plant plants/flowers that have a creeping or draping habit it becomes a work of art. Might be a great job for Belle.
That bird call is from Barred Owl...The Barred Owl's hooting call, "Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?" is a classic sound of old forests and treed swamps. But this attractive owl, with soulful brown eyes and brown-and-white-striped plumage, can also pass completely unnoticed as it flies noiselessly through the dense canopy or snoozes on a tree limb. I love to hear that sound during an evening with a chill in the air.
And I’m sure at night they will hear the songs of the whippoorwill. I live on the west coast of Florida 80 miles north of Tampa near a huge forest and in the evening I sit on my front deck to watch the fireflies and listen the whippoorwills songs. Once in a while I can hear the howls of the coyotes. One of the worst things about Florida and being in nature are the palmetto bugs but they do not live long inside and do not carry the nasties like the German cockroach. Welcome to Florida. If you can get past the heat and humidity of the summers you will love Florida. I have lived here for 24 years but I’m only a transplant from South Georgia so I didn’t go far from home.
Geese Doug...thought I was gonna have to put sunglasses on to watch this video...this must of been the first time ur legs have seen any sun in years lol..great job on the cleanup.
leave it up to a man to comment on the color of Doug's legs! his legs should be covered up with snake repellent gear! whatever that is. jeans? boots? a wet suit! THAT would do it!
Yes, indeed; sounds like a Barred Owl call. Liking what you’ve accomplished so far. Do you think a pressure washer could clean the wooden swing frame? We enjoyed our swing like that as we sat and gazed over the waters of Lake Huron. My dad retired to central FL. Had armadillos living in the crawl space. It took some of his best ingenuity to build a skirting system that would keep them out. They were stubborn and determined, but Dad won! The best to you all. 💕from AZ🌵
That boat would make a great flower planter, and the trampoline has a ton of springs and the ho0ps that make up the circle make great hoops for a high tunnel for gardening, just some thoughts.
You guys are awesome! We love your videos! Don't let people scare you. We moved here 20 years ago from PA and wouldn't live anywhere else. When we first came here people tried to scare us saying snakes fall out of trees on your head, etc. Sure, you must be careful of venomous snakes but where we lived in PA there were rattlers all over the place. If you get bit with fire ants just spray them with colloidal silver and it stops the itching immediately. Also, you can make your own colloidal silver very cheaply.
With all of the work that is ahead of you and all that you have already started, the smiles on your faces says that your little family made a very good decision to move to Florida, well done!! Cannot wait to see what you do with your home!!!
Can’t wait to see the process on your new home. When we purchased our first home in South Florida over 49 years ago it also had an old swing set, we painted it, made a swing with wood and chains and our kids enjoyed it for years. Seeing you two working on your new home reminded me of those wonderful days. Praying that everything goes well.
Doing what you love the best! I have a feeling that this property is going to outshine the one you moved from! You both look content. The armadillos were fun to see. Can't wait for the next videos.
The bird was a barred owl, you can Google the call, it's "who cooks for you, who cooks for you aaaawlll". I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the armadillos. I hope they aren't a bother and that they get to stay. This place will be maybe the biggest challenge yet, but I am so excited to see what you do with it. As for snakes, I love them all, but being from Iowa any venomous snake is very rare. I know you'll learn to spot the ones you need to be careful around and teach your kids as well. No lecture from me, and I know anyone who warned you just has your best interest in mind.

Ok Doug please!!! I'm from tx. And I used to live in fl. I don't normally tell you what to do but please listen to this old woman. SNAKE BOOTS. OMG armadillos so cool! And I think that's a owl you hear.not sure.
We used to have a lot of armadillos in West Texas when I lived there as a child. I loved watching them. I was just a small child, my family teased me for years for calling them Arman Mandillos. Lol Later in life my Dad gave me a small armadillo statue. I treasure it! Armadillos eat a lot of insects. I was always told they're a vector for leprosy and to leave them alone, actually never researched that to check the validity. They must be able to acclimate well to moisture variances if they live in dry West Texas and in damp Florida, they must prefer warm climates. I lived in the desert in Southern California and never saw any there though.
I really admire you both for the hard work and seemingly fearless way you tackle a project. God bless you and keep you safe and I am so looking forward to this house rebuild!

thats why i watch you both. you leave it better than how you found it. thanks guys
This kind of work is so satisfying. Results are immediately apparent.
Getting the property cleaned up and safer for ya'll is good!! 👍👍
Well, that was oddly satisfying.
That "What makes that noise?" is an Owl!
I can't wait to see what you have planned for your home. This is going to be great!
Great choice of music when the armadillos came out! Made me grin from ear to ear. You guys are such an inspiration! Loving every second!
I was watching a great podcast, but this is more important to me, proud of you !
That sound is an Owl 🦉. Great job again
I just love you guys! It is so exciting to see you guys transform this property! And the sound you heard that you wondered what it was, it was definitely an owl ❤️
Did u just love the expression on tere face
Ashley you are so good. You are not afraid to do anything. You both are hard working. Well done.
Oh I love watching your videos. They are great. I am amazed at how gutsy you and Ashley are and your kids to be out there in the unknown not knowing what you are going to run into as far as wildlife. I couldn’t do it. Keep sending the vids. Very interesting.
I'm with you! I'd be afraid a python or alligator would be in that brush, especially with their pond.
Id hold onto that trampoline frame until it's time for outdoor projects. There's a lot of fun projects you can do with that. I googled it the other day and was surprised to see so many great ideas.
As soon as I saw it I thought aerial cover for chickens, or somebody.
So cool to see a family of armadillos. They'll keep the bugs down.
Undeniable how you just jump in and make things better everywhere you go. Can’t wait for more. Be safe ok.
It's so great seeing Ashley smile!
Yes she is beautiful, inside and out.
Hello from Canada, you two are such good workers. I’ve been watching you since you painted the red trailer. Glad you are where you wanted to be. Good luck with your new home. Can’t wait for the next video.
Love watching y’all’s journey!! 🥰🥰
There is no doubt in my mind you will have your new to you home amazing soon. Ashley, you look so much more relaxed and happy and your children are thriving.
Beautiful description ❤️
💕from AZ🌵
That could be why this skirting was buried a little bit
@@Night_hack I saw that, too. 😃
Barred Owl! Call sounds like “Who cooks for you” 💚
Love the sound of the OWL.
That was so satisfying! I think that Ashley's job of pulling away the trash looked kind of fun to me. I think I would enjoy that!
That boat would make a great flower planter, and the trampoline has a ton of springs and the ho0ps that make up the circle make great hoops for a high tunnel for gardening, just some thoughts.
This channel is better than television! Doug, cutting off your old torn knee pants is so Swiss Family Robinson :))))) Love it!!
Good idea cleaning up the trash, then cutting the tall grass and wild underbrush, makes the property safer for all of you. Loved being outside and cleaning up our property when we first bought it......sadly I got ticks on me and ended up with Lyme Disease.....stay careful.
You guys are amazing when it comes to fixing a place up....I look forward to seeing your need video...😊
Doug and Ashley demo kitchen cabinets, a floor, skirting around a whole house, fill a 20 yard dumpster and call it light demo work! 😥I’m tired just typing all the work you’ve done so far. You guys are so hard working. I can’t wait to see what you do with this house. 😬👏
I love this family ;)
Me too! They are so caring, thoughtful, "honest", and hard working. What's not to luv.
I do too. Admire their hard work ethic.
You have owls on your property! Owls are gorgeous , fascinating creatures!
And they eat the little rodents too which is good.
@@gabriellakadar Excellent point!
Actually doing this exact thing. Cleaning up a single wide outside. I lifted up an old bathtub and a couple of baby copperheads scurried about.
ARRGGHHH!!!
Niki and I have lived in florida for 21 years now. We love it. I see by the other posts that you've been warned about our critters. Take those warnings seriously but still enjoy our wonderful nature filled state.
That mower has certainly proven to be a great investment for you guys. Amazing how much it helped you pull that trash out.
Ashley love driving the tractors and mowers. Ashley you are really good at dragging that stuff out of there. Like a Pro! :))
Ok Doug please!!! I'm from tx. And I used to live in fl. I don't normally tell you what to do but please listen to this old woman. SNAKE BOOTS.
OMG armadillos so cool! And I think that's a owl you hear.not sure.
First things I noticed .
Absolutely, they all need boots.
OMG! I thought you were joking when you said Armadillos! LOL
Nope Florida is full of them lol
Pests
Bringing the property back to it's former beauty! I love it!
