I love how Trevor conducted this interview - allowing Chadwick to speak his mind without interrupting unnecessarily like a lot of other hosts do
Supriya Naidu same here, plus he also didn’t make any lame jokes about the president, which was nice to see.
It's all a timing thing really. Each segment in a show got a certain amount of time it can go on. That is showbiz for you.
The Truth #true
Thats african spirit(not playing the where you from spin) for us, when you speak while im talking its like saying, alright, heard you and you dont make sense...allow me to help
Jimmy Fallon can't do that
To see a (now) globally known African comedian interview a guy who plays a (now) globally known African superhero, honestly two things I never thought I would ever witness as a young kid growing up in Africa m'self.....I try not to tear up because of how powerful this stuff is, guys
Agreed. Very powerful. I got excited every time Trevor wanted to make connection or mention something he really enjoyed as an African.
Just after reading Trevor's memoir, I have become such a huge fan of his.
Kek Peterson 1. Get your head out of your ass and 2. Who the fuck is Jon? Lmao
What's wrong with Jon Stewart? Way better human being than Donald Trumpturd
Kek Peterson Username and avatar indicates a fascist. Why do you like Jon? I thought nazis hated jews along with black people. Or maybe you're just posing as something other than a monster.
Emmanuel Mthethwa
I'm white and had the same reaction. All the assholes like Kek Peterson, that got bent out of shape because blacks were stoked about finally having an aspirational fantasy that portrayed blacks, or Africans in this case, as capable, intelligent, honorable and proud just can't stand the idea that we've moved past minstrel shows and black face as the main representations of blacks in film and tv.

I think the success also stemmed from the recent (since 2018) political trend and the immense demand for a black super-hero back then.
I am curious to see whether somebody will be able to live up to Chadwick's legacy and take give us another great, black marvel hero.

I am a black Latina and I felt absolutely represented by this movie. I cried halfway through it, because I felt great; I felt empowered; I felt like a Queen. Because never had I ever seen a major film with SO MANY PEOPLE who look like me being totally awesome and not just sidekicks. I, for the first time, felt like a movie told me “You, too can be this great”. And #RepresentationMatters
You will feel even more empowered when you visit African nations, such as Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, and more now, The Gambia and Akon City, etc. in the future. You don't have to just feel empowered by a movie. We Africans throughout the world are empowering ourselves.

Something to think about. Chadwick Boseman has played Thuorgood Marshall and Jackie Robinson, two towering figures in the history of black America but it was his portrayal of a fictional hero that made the biggest impact. That shows you the power of representation in an aspirational fantasy. Black Panther deserves all the praise it's received and more. It's probably in my top three MCU films now. I don't know how they could've made a better film unless Michael B. Jordan had been in it more.
He got Black Panther because he showed how good he was in the others. They didn't just pick him at random. He is the best.
and James Brown.......he did that!
Tierra NiCole
I totally forgot about that! Chadwick Boseman is a killer. He seems like such a genuinely nice dude too. I still wish Michael B. Jordan hadn't died in the film. I watched Creed again the other night and he's unbelievably good as well.
John Summers yeah...in the comic books killmonger was an arch enemy for quite some time. He was killed off early. Is it possible they will bring him back?
It also shows the power of a big-ass budget

Dom_90 I think that's the point. He doesnt feel like Wakandians(?) are his ancestors because he's been living among black people in America, so he identifies himself with them. He's been abandoned by his biological ancestor(?), so he found home among other African-American in his neighborhood.

The way he talks is very interesting. You can see him choose every word he wants to say very carefully, which makes the whole interview extremely genuine.
This was my exact thought as I watched the interview. Chadwick was intentional in what he was saying. I know it mostly came from speaking with a person from South Africa and not trying to be offensive. Yet, it also came from his need to express the African- American experience here, and our journey to connect to the motherland while being as authentic as possible.
I loved his spirit! Humble, giving, and smart. His body of work was so powerful. Chadwick Boseman was truly a superhero!

True....the accents tho. When I heard Winston Duke as M'Baku, I was like "Nahhh this dude is Nigerian". I was very surprised when I found out he wasn't. The accent was very spot on even down to the "We would not have it oh!", the way Nigerians speak at times. They did their homework thoroughly. I'm totally impressed with their attention to detail.
as a Ghanaian myself, when I heard him speak, I was like "see omo naija"
I think a British accent would have been a TERRIBLE choice. Just the idea that they played with the idea is horrifying. I'm very glad they thought better of it.

Totally agree about being the hero of your own Life! And yes, we can find empathy towards each other if we can listen to each other's pain, we can relate.
A lovely sentiment. Too bad that when white people try to explain their feelings or points of view, they are relentlessly shouted down as being nazis.
Anon Ymous That isn't true.
If you are shamelessly shouting hate and lies, then you may be mistaken for a nazis.
Hate and lies don't make one a nazi, unless the person making that assumption is an idiot. Being a member of the National Socialist party (nazional sozialitische) makes you a nazi. That's what makes the leftist rhetoric so stupid.
A person disagreeing with you doesn't make them a nazi. It doesn't make them a racist. It doesn't make them anyone but someone who disagrees with you, and if you call them nazis without justification except "hate", then you are just stupid. You are also hating when you hate someone who hates. Why is that such a hard thing to understand?
Well said :)
"You should be the hero of your own story" that hit me hard. He truly is Black Panther
Rest in Peace brother, our African gift, my kids loved you in Black Panther, you brought back black pride. We lost a great actor!
This interview is iconic. The movie was incredibly iconic. The people behind the actors are iconic.
The truth is, this was a movie that spoke the vision and narrative black people have always had about themselves: we know, and have always known that's who we are. It's the rest of the world that needs to see that and acknowledge it.
Chadwick Boseman was very instrumental and necessary to King T'Challa in that he brought the perfect grace, humility, vibe and essence that is recognisably and undeniably African. It had to be Chadwick. We can never thank him enough. Rest In Power bro. 🙏🏿🖤
7:45 "people can't listen to that the entire film" can speak for themselves. Personally I dig it 100%. Chadwick is def a great actor. He sells the character very well.
Nah, British accents have been used to convey a more aristocratic or posh sense of characters since the dawn of film. It’s about time that ‘tradition’ goes out the window.

I am sure Trevor is watching this over and over again. R. I. P Chadwick "Wakanda forever" honestly I was expecting for black panther 2
Lol Trevor is so right, a lot of the time you watch African things in American movies and you wonder where exactly they got their information from. Case and point the pronunciation of Lagos in Civil War. But this movie was so authentic I loved every moment.
To all black americans having this same problem of not being able to trace your origin. As your african brother first know that we love you and we stand with you. we admire your strength and ability. since the tribes in africa migrated and intermarried alot its difficult to find an exact origin even for us modern africans so thats okay.. but just look at the small details in your own body and DNA then you'd know which tribe you share those with. or if you travel to africa ask some elders this question and they'd tell you based on some details in you. despite just as white people black people arent all the same.
My thoughts exactly on the part about tracing ones ancestors ...after listening to him talk about not being able to trace his ancestors, I sat thinking if I would be able to trace mine
Richmond laşma Thank you so much!
How is asking an elder gonna help anyone they won't know only way is through dna. I doubt half of people overseas know anything about their history to get that initial tie
I appreciate this comment so much. I have a friend who traveled to Africa and the locals were able to identify what tribe she was likely from bc she carries very strong features that was easy for locals to identify.
The only thing I was able to find out was that my ancestry includes Ghana and Nigeria. I have no idea regarding what tribes.
Oh My God I couldn't believe THAT HE'S GONE

Chadwick Boseman is the right man for the role, I wish nothing but the best for him. I'm looking foward to seeing Black Panther in #InfinityWar and the sequel
May I just take a moment to say. Not a lot of interviewers show as much respect to actors or the films of Superhero movies. I really do appreciate the interest and deep insights Trevor took from the film and wanted to discuss with Chadwick, this is probably one of the first times I've seem an interviewer treat the medium as an artwork and not as a bloated "flavor of the month" superhero movie. Thank you Trevor. Thank you Chadwick, and Ryan Coogler, and the rest of the Black Panther cast, loved this movie, seen it 5 times, watching it again tomorrow.... #WakandaForever
Watching this interview 4 yrs later reminded me of how brilliant Chadwick Boseman was. Both as an actor and as a human being. His insights into the movie and his explanations were so wonderfully deep and articulate. The acting fraternity has lost a gem!!! Continue to rest in peace Chadwick. 🙏🏽
Wakanda Forever! 🙅🏾♂️
Usually crossing arms across one's body is a closed action; an action that deflects and is aimed at protecting oneself and pushing the recipient away. It is a testament to this man, to his abilities and to his humility and humanity, that when he did it, it was as though he was offering a hug and transmitting respect to the recipient all in one, albeit from a distance. Truly inspiring and appropriate in these challenging times. RIP Chadwick Boseman and thank you for sharing your amazing talent, humanity and for inspiring a generation.
The Black Panther movie is one of my new favorite Marvel movies🍿🍿
Abigail Shiller agreed
Abigail Shiller I'm still confused... Infinity War is coming and I just can't wait... I love the individual stories of the Marvel heroes... come to think of it, Tony Stark and T'Challa's sister... they should make a movie about the two; WHO IS WHO!!!
You must have missed the part where the film goes out of its way to explain how being isolationist and racially pure was everything that was wrong with the nation.
macosby anthony The thing is Infinity War has not come out yet.. But when it does it will probably be my favorite
Brandon Best but race doesn't matter
I saw this with my daughter, she is 9 and we're both white, and we saw saw with a mostly black audience and there was points that felt uncomfortable. But not in a bad way actually because it was authentic. For a made up country it was reflective of real things. I'm a comic nerd and to have a character I love be done so well was just amazing. I even empathised with the "villain". Amazing film.
I actually appreciate you sharing those insights.
yeah when i was there i was one of the maybe ten white people in the theater. when the movie started i kind of had culture shock because every other movie ive been too, the audience is mostly white. it was kind of foreign and familiar at the same time. and that's when i really started to understand how big of a deal this movie specifically is to people. yeah everyone knows representation in person, but until you have that experience i dont think you get the full scope of it.
Brandon Thompson went to see it the second time and me and my girlfriend were the only black people in the theatre. not exaggerating. the lights were on before it started and yes. only black people. everyone is going to get to this movie at some point. even if just to see what all the fuss is about. great movie tho. 🙅🏾♂️
Thank u for sharing ur experience.

SabsAndCo maaaaan why do the best of us leave so early
In revisiting this interview today, Saturday, April 27, 2019, I understand far more of what Chadwick is saying about everything he touched on than I did when I first saw this interview which was before the movie hit theaters. I'm in awe of how Trevor did NOT mention that he was a part of this movie. I admire everyone's part in keeping it all a secret from moviegoers so the totality of enjoyment and the opportunity to be thoroughly entertained was afforded us all without spoilers.
Anyone else who keeps coming back to this interview just to see how pure hearted Chadwick is? 🥹
I used “is” because this hero still lives on in my heart🥹♥️
WAKANDA FOREVER 🐆
Yes
I love this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
" Everybody's the hero in their own story "
-Chadwick Boseman
You can hear the quiver of passion in Boseman's voice, making sure he represents his process of thought as intimately and responsibly as possible. He's a very good man. Black Panther IS the movie of 2018. Disney doing it right!
Chadwick Boseman speak really well, damn this guy is well mannered & humble down to earth.
