@@e-hfilms Sure will. Also if I may ask, why do you choose micro four-thirds over full frame? And why Panasonic over Olympus bodies? Better video features I assume?

His opening is bad. I almost stopped watching about 30 seconds in. I really wanted to see this lens. So, the review is amazing, and this guy is a little goofy (the good kind), I like his reviews and subbed.

This channel is now my de facto go-to for lens reviews. I was seriously impressed by the first video on the Voigtlander 60mm f/0.95 and it's brothers and sisters, but I feared that episode was a one-hit wonder. Now I see the selection of lenses for review is clearly charting a course through the choicest optics the m4/3 system offers cinematographers: the Vazen anamorphics and this latest f/0.8 from Voigtlander.
Good taste in glass is one thing but delivering informative reviews on typically dry topics while remaining genuinely entertaining is quite another. It is here that E H Films delivers. Where other UA-camrs are content to mercilessly ejaculate a smorgasbord of technical specifications and clichéd observations in your face, E H Films educate you with aplomb. A perfect balance between imagery and storytelling. Where else on the attention-deficient-frontier-town of UA-cam will you find an intro that takes two full minutes to unfold? A bold choice that deserves to be rewarded with views and subscriptions. For those viewers who recognise artistry and stick with it, they are rewarded with a delicate demonstration of craft and wit.
Thank you and please keep going.

Just came across this channel after coming across this lens while browsing at B&H website. When I saw the lens I had to do a double take. Being a M4/3 user I couldn't believe it at first, so I jumped on YT to see some reviews about it. This video just stunned me with its quality more than the lens. It's so good it'd make any M4/3 user want to buy the lens, it's so good. My surprise is the low number of subscribers. Please make more quality content like this more often! Thanks for firing up my interest in Voigtlander lenses. Will definitely look at getting my first Voigt soon!

I apologize for my English, google translates me. I think that the beautiful photos are not only the merit of the Voigtlander 29mm F0.8 Super-Nokton, but also your skill. Because it's very difficult to get that quality on MFT. It's like if a professional cyclist were given an inexpensive bike, and an ordinary person was given a very expensive and very serious bike, the outcome is obvious, the professional wins.
    Big respect.

I had to shift watching this back a few days when I saw the initial request for a big screen and headphones. I turned all my lights off and tried to take in the experience as full as possible. And it was a great experience to have. From the opening already had my stunned.
After learning about the lens announcement a while ago, I knew that I will avoid all other "reviews" and await your coverage and judgement. Upon learning that you would cover this lens I was excited but learning that your weren't happy with the stills shoot this turned into worry. It seems really unlikely to me that I would buy this lens, however I do feel like a new lens could rival buying a larger camera. The most recent lenses I got didn't turn out to spark my motivation as one of the three isn't working as intended at all. Your videos spoiled me and I have locked myself into putting in the same effort before using them in any video (or even stills beyond some odd tests).
I am excited for what is to come, no matter if it will be the Mikaton Speedmasters or something completely different, perhaps - not even lenses?
Side note: it's an actual prime prime lens.

So far this is the only English language review I can find on UA-cam, which is crazy. I know it's an expensive lens, and I know micro four thirds isn't the most popular system, but there are WAY more reviews of the $7000+ OM 150-400/4.5.
At any rate, cool review, now I need this lens.
Also, I wish this lens had the contacts like the E-mount 35mm I used to have so the camera could know the focal length for IBIS, and so I could have the exif data.

Your channel is amazing and the reviews are very helpful and a stunning work of art. I confess that I misjudged Voigtlander choices to go for a 28mm. I do have a 10.5mm, 17.5mm and the 25mm and love them, but since your other video I was only looking for the 60mm (my dream lens). Now I think that I probably go for all of them 😅

Thanks for covering this. Your videos are always stimulating, stylish and informative.
The information regarding white balance is especially significant.
You've definitely put this lens on my radar as a potential purchase (one day!)
I'd have liked to have seen some examples of f/2.8-f/5.6 to see the clarity without diffraction, though. As well as some naturalistic scenes (though the 50s cine portraiture concept is greatly appreciated).
Regarding the Equivalence-demon, I noticed that my other faves, Fuji and Sigma, both released potentially comparable lenses at the same time: the 65mm f/2 for L mount and 80mm f/1.7? for GFX. No doubt each with distinct design objectives, and without the ambition of Voigtlaender, but I can't help but wonder how they would each realize the same project.
Looking forward to more stylish productions! :)

Nice production, so much effort. You replicated the the 50's style very well, from lighting to clothing, and casting. I applaud you for the terrific effort and production. I almost clicked off though as the first three minutes was very long with limited material to digest. These are all great arguments you present for the lens. But given the price tag and it's abilities and limited versatility, it may be very niche.

  • @alaskaimage395

There will always be the cheaper is "just as good" crowd. I work in an entirely different field, we always have the "wow this competition oriented high end item is amazing, but $6200 US is to high, there are cheaper products that do the same thing but for $400"
Yep a cheap lens will take photos, a cheap camera will take photos. If you can’t, won’t, or do not understand the difference between a $200 body and a $3200 body that’s your own issue. If the cheap junk worked like the stuff 20 times it’s price every pro would use the cheap stuff. Pros don’t go and spend $10k on a body just because they are a pro….

    Hello Aaron,
I echo the feelings of the comments. Indeed, I rather like the idea of manual operation, and this lens performance is something to behold as is your seductive film. My question is: Since I translate most of my images of landscapes and citiscapes into B&W, would this Voigtlander be wasted on me?

    • @e-hfilms
      @e-hfilms  3 роки тому

In my honest opinion, probably yes. Unless you need the absolute best separation that opening up to F0.8 can give you, there are probably better lenses suited to you. Even when stopping down to make it ultrasharp, there are cheaper lenses that can get you 90% of the way there.

Wow, a 3:30 intro! Just wow. The only reason I kept watching was to find out how much time this video wasted in comparison to the amount of actual information presented. So, it's about 10% content and 90% self indulgence. If the latter is your thing, I highly recommend you watch this.

Nice review dude. Just for information. You pronouncing Voigtländer with a silent „i“ . Like in English Wrap with a silent „w“.

Gorgeous model and classic poses. Nifty lens but you don't need it to this kind of work.

I have no idea how you call yourself a photographer and who pays you. I first thought there was some reason you messed up your own lighting so badly, but then I started seeing at 9:00 your actual photos of model with nose shadow all over the face and chin shadows on neck... I am not even a pro photographer, but come on dude. Learn the lighting.

I think the point was to test the shadow detail, any other lens would just be completely black shadows without any shading.

I like the video but how you could “forget” to show the bokeh of a f/0.8 lens is beyond me. What’s even the point if you are just going to use it in a studio.
