Within 2 weeks of being put on lithium and paxil as a young teenager, I’d seriously tried to take myself out of this world and was almost successful. Instead of recognizing the horrendous side effects from the drugs, I was put on even more drugs including antipsychotics. These meds can absolutely cause violence. To me it was towards myself. This happened again a decade later. I’m grateful to God everyday for saving my life both times and I’m still in the thick of trying to free myself from a lifetime of these meds. I live with many side effects but thankfully I’m still here, fighting for myself. Thank you Dr Josef for speaking up.

What is really amazing is that lithium works well at 1 mg per week! Big Pharma can't patent a normal dose like that because it's natural. Big Pharma has to give toxic levels of up to 900 mg a day! For many people that is way too much and it typically always shuts down the Thyroid! Western Medicine likes it because now they have a patient with two dependencies!
Pharmaceutical companies have often suppressed all the clinical evidence. They Cherry pick for the ones that will support their drugs and then they market them.
They also falsify evidence.
So everyone that takes a ssri will become violent?

I heard that the data is compromised by choosing study end-dates DURING trials, non-disclosure of attrition, failing in some ways to adhere to stated "Methods" in the section with that title, etc. The Pharmaceutical Company seeks FDA approval with THEIR CHOSEN submitted data, obviously any data which would be unhelpful toward their goal doesn't see light. FDA does NOT replicate the studies, so the submitted data need be IN FULL.

Hm, the drug inserts for this type of drug are more damning than RFK was on this.
I'm completely disabled by pharmaceutical drugs including SSRI's and have been now for 15 years. During my journey through hell I've noticed the number of those injured and those that have unalived themselves to be quite high even though the drug inserts claim it's extremely rare. Our society accepts that it's o.k. for a portion of the society to suffer and die so that some unknown number of other people can live (in their idea of what's o.k). How do you feel about this practice and has mankind always felt this way on the whole?
As a retired biological research scientist, can you explain why it is not standard to test hormone levels before putting people on drugs that affect the brain?

I really wish it was someone with a better history of being scientific. When someone like this says this, everyone points to the stupid stuff he said and dismisses it. I agree with him, but we need a science / medical professional saying these things.

Warnings and monitor first few weeks but no hospital beds for teenagers are available and aby first time user needs heavy monitoring

20 years on SSRI's, many different ones because they didn't work for me, every year switching to another and I was too drugged and naive to question what was happening to me. I received a terrible brain injury coming off and 15+ years later still experience life with a brain that has been compromised. My grown son tells me while on the drugs I didn't care about anything and was very reactive, unable to process my emotions in a productive way. How is that healthy living? Despite my injury and suffering, I am better off not being drugged out of reality. Thank you Dr. Jozef for speaking out on behalf of those of us injured.

I was on SRRIs as a teen. Absolutely, those drugs change you! I've not had violent thoughts before or since, but I was not ok.

I’m a physician. I wean many people off their antidepressants. I can tell you, while not addictive in the sense opioids are, for example, it is very difficult to get people off these medications. I hope RFK is confirmed. The pharmaceutical industry has ruined American health.

As a physician, do you also encounter patients for whom antidepressants are effective, as they have been for me? The fact that they can be difficult to discontinue doesn't negate their therapeutic benefits. I find it surprising that you would make such observations, given your professional background. The effectiveness of treatment depends on a complex interplay of factors within the healthcare system, including the contributions of doctors, psychologists, other professionals, the medications themselves, and the patients' experiences. It's a multifaceted process, not a single, isolated issue.
Years ago, my son who was an attic to both alcohol and prescription drugs, was prescribed Prozac. He had an incident of aggression where he threatened to harm me. After that, he said that he was suicidal and he was immediately taken off the Prozac.
SSRIs are NOT the answer. Excersize, good diet, good sleep, and empathy can cure alot of ailments

I took them for about 7 days for anxiety and OCD. The paranoia and night terrors were so extreme i never took them again. For me they are evil they made me evil (or potentially evil). Thank you for your rational commentary.

I was prescribed an SSRI when I was 9 years old, and I attacked a bunch of kids on a playground with a metal pole. I'm naturally not a particularly violent person, but I am quite reactive sometimes. Those SSRIs took all my inhibition away, I lost all awareness that I was doing something wrong. Truly a terrifying and narrative shattering experience. Of course, the crooked psychiatrist who prescribed them never mentioned any of these potential side effects to my parents.
I stand with RFK 100%. Let's hold this industry accountable for their selective inattention and negligent harm.

My wife was very depressed but she never used SSRI's. She brutally attacked me. The SSRI's help people with their depression but when you go off of them the depression gets worse and they become violent.

Over the 31 year period I took these drugs which included many failed tapers and reinstatements, I can 100% testify to the fact these drugs can cause an extreme agitated state and aggression, SI and hyper anxious conditions that could easily have led to serious consequences if I'd had easy access to a firearm,whether that had been harm to myself or maybe others.
Seeing as normally I am the complete opposite to that,laid back, sensitive and wouldn't harm a fly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that these drugs led to serious harm in some people who took them.

My brother had those "brain zaps" coming off of SSRIs. Really weird feeling. This happened even though he tapered off for three months.

SSRIs Cynbalta and Wellbutrin and the like ruined nearly my life. Misdiagnosis and I had to go outside of insurance provided care to get better. Metabolic Psychiatry saved my life. The standard care nearly ruined me.
Just curious: what problems (specifically) did you have on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin?
Extreme agitation was the worst one. Multiple times a day I would lash out at somebody over nothing. Hopelessness. I had to start living in my own room for months at a time as everyone upset me. The doc gave the wrong advice on how to stop cymbalta. I crashed hard for several days on a hard stop. Then went in patient where I was misdiagnosed with bipolar. I wasn't evaluated for it. It was just assumed. Lithium gave me vision loss. I am actually simply autistic and very sensitive to meds.

My son was Prozac for 3 months and he became quite violent. Like enough that we didn't feel safe in house with him. I had to take him down and restrain him till police arrived to take him away. He's explode in anger and punch the backyard shed cutting his hands up. The psychiatrist just increased the dose and put him on Abilify. My son realized that was wrong and wanted off so we worked with GP and Pharmacist to taper off. He's been off the drugs for 2 month now and totally different kid, he's happier now. The suicidal thoughts that lead to all this have weakened. He has some unhealthy coping messages.
On opposite my wife was on Prozace for few months and it helped her deal with a stressful event and she came off it with no issues. I don't think the drugs do anything for depression but can give a person a break to deal with situations with side effects. Emotional blunting.
I wonder how much big pharma is paying the Sen. Smith grilling RFk jr. I do take issue RFK jr stance of autism as a disease.
I have been on a variety of antidepressants, benzodiazepines and stimulants for 22 years before tapering for almost 2 years now. The damage these caused to my life have been devastating and the pain and despair of recovery is unbearable 😖
It was bearable for the doctor who gave you the type-cast Label, etc.!

My daughter as a young adult was prescribed Prozac years ago. She felt suicidal and called her Doctor about it. The Doctor told her to keep taking them and give it time. That was all she had to say. Thankfully my daughter trashed the Prozac immediately.
The most telling thing about all these hearings is that they are so afraid of what RFKjr and others might say that they never let them speak, and egregiously interrupt especially when they are making an important observation.

Yep. Im one of those people who got a lot more depressed after being put on antidepressants, luckily not violent, more like dissociated, irritated and just anxious all the time. I think it was extremely irresponsible for multiple therapists that I’ve seen over the years to prescribe me antidepressants only after several visits… they’re giving it out like candy. One time (in recent years) I was referred to a neurologist for chronic migraines and sleep issues, she sneakily prescribed me sleep meds that were also antidepressants AFTER I explained her my history with antidepressants not working well for me. She told me it was sleep meds, completely failed to mention it was also an ssri. Can’t make this sh*t up
They tried that with me and I found out and did not take them. Took one Tylenol to help sleep and exercise more to help me. Keep busy !
This could have been my text, I had an almost identical experience. 13 years later still unfit for full time work now they (medial experts) blame it on my personality. But before taking that crap I was another person
I also had a Dr try to tell me these were a sleep med. Took them a couple days and was very ill from them. I quit them immediately

I had severe withdrawal, but thankful it subsided when i went back on. So now i can try and taper off properly. I'm fearful that it'll happen again even when tapering slowly...but finding your channel has given me hope. The withdrawal was the most terrifying experience I've ever had.
Young people on antidepressants should be very last resort, just like for adults. Definitely not for young people. There is usually something that can be done to fix the home situation, such as aboos and things at home that doctors should look into before prescribing young people antidepressants

I called Tina Smith and left a message letting her know how ridiculous she looked and how the truth always comes out. And that i didnt believe her about her experience with ssri's.
Good phone call! There's a good number of people who insist that they are being helped by sedation, etc. Smith is running here with direct contradiction, blazing indignation and is ostracizing!

Im a therapist that works in an acute impatient setting. They give all patients some sort of meds. I'm not sure if see them help anyone, but I keep my mouth shut because I am not a doctor. They give them to children as young as 5.

My kidney have been damaged by a kind of SSRI without warning. Since then, I no longer put my full faith on the medical system and do my own research on every prescription.

When I was 20, I was given an SSRI. I still have ugly scars on my body (20 years later) from the effects of no sleep for days, confused thinking, no impulse control and a violent outburst that resulted in massive self harm. I was in an SSRI manic episode. I stopped the medications and years later, when given different SSRIs, I experienced the similar effects. Agitation, no sleep. We stopped, started zoloft. I went into anaphylaxis and finally said, maybe this class of drugs truly doesn't agree with me. I would end up on Lamictal (still currently trying to taper after 10 years of taking) and a benzodiazepine. Though I have been benzo free for 7 years. RFK said some people have a harder time stopping these drugs than other pharmaceutical drugs and that's absolutely true! I have MANY friends who feel trapped and hopeless with them.
Dr. Josef - Yes, there are many people who experience severe paradoxical reactions. I've been through that myself and it's terrifying.

I was put on them in my 20s a number of times and each time they made me very suicidal and caused severe depersonalization. Nobody wanted to listen to me and I was told many times it gets worse before you get better just keep taking them. I just got way worse. Soon warnings of suicidal ideation etc appeared on some boxes.
What is scary, frustrating and mind boggling is that whatever I go to GP for I get offered an antidepressant. Muscle pain how about this antidepressant.. insomnia how about an antidepressant.. menopause how about an antidepressant... they offer them so quickly as a panacea to all ailments and GPs just seem to see you as resisting treatment when you say no thankyou. Even when you have told them repeatedly that they led to active suicide intent.
I know so many many people on them and lots who just can't get off them. Big money making scam and if you complain about side effects then it's you are just depressed or have sn anxiety disorder never the drugs despite countless others having the same experiences. Shameful.

Political narrative capture & regulatory capture are the final stages of securing a mature industry. They have many trillions of reasons to force their political narrative & they're all green.
Prozac locked me into a rage where I couldn't control myself. Real no-go that one for me. Most of the SSRIs I was put on just didn't do anything. Some made me feel like a zombie. Bupropion has worked for over a decade at this point in my case. Not saying any of them made me homicidal, but I get why some might lose control on them. Because I did lose control on one of them.

I want these issues to be shouted from the rooftops! I believe he is right and she is wrong. I have had paradoxical reactions to psychiatric meds. I 100% agree with everything you've said, Dr. Josef. Love your education to people like me in all this. So grateful!! That is what I feel most of all (gratitude for you and for RFK Jr.), but I worry about this important topic being politicized. If any of you reading this care about spreading the word about the harm of psychiatric meds, I'd ask we think about not making this a Republican or Democrat issue. I may be wrong, but I just feel politicizing this can harm the cause. I don't want to play political football with something that so many people have and will suffer from. We need to address this with as much non-partisanship as possible. I say this because I have some democrat friends who, upon learning that Dr. Chris Palmer (Brain Energy author) supports Kennedy, decided they didn't want to listen to his message anymore. So sad. Politics suck.

I understand your concern and I too feel many medications cause more harm than good and that attention needs to be paid. But that he never owned up to his role in the Measles outbreak in Samoa is shameful. Vaccines are not perfect but it's one of those risk benefit situations, like so much else. I'm also with him on the consumption of processed food but he makes assertions that fly in the face of the consensus of nutritional research. Tallow is healthy? Please. RFK is just an average guy with an opinion but no expertise .He is being considered for a position that is way out of his wheelhouse. He would be responsible to oversee programs like Medicare and Medicaid and he doesn't seem to know the difference nor can he even explain what part A Medicare covers! Wow. When I became eligible for Medicare I learned what part A was on day one. He's so unqualified it's not funny.
Bringing awareness that SSRIs and potentiality even other prescription medications are exacerbating health problems is a step in the right direction, and being able to think clearly and critcally is the only way to give informed consent, which those who are currently mentally ill cannot do. The support of community is needed to heal mental health, not the prescription that simply makes our mind blind to the problem.

I've been screaming about Benzos for years. I'm not a Kennedy supporter but on this point he is solidly correct. Read everything Stevie Nicks wrote about her physician prescribed klonopon addiction and its horrors.
Way back in the 80s, I was taught in nursing school that antidepressants could cause harm to self or others, because the depression may lift just enough for the patient to finally feel some energy/motivation to DO something. We were taught to watch out for that. He's not wrong.
❤ I'll be thankful all my life for the ONE psychiatrist who listened to me when I said I wanted to come off of psych meds. It took a long time, but it was worth it, in my case. Extremely sensitive (allergic) to these kinds of meds.

When I went through menopause the medical community said hormone replacement was too dangerous, so my doctor put me on an anti-depressant. When it made things worse her answer was another anti-depressant, (not a different one, another one). Now I'm on 2 anti-depressants, a med for the neurological pain from the anti-depressants, med for my stomach because by now I'm so full of "drugs" my body can't process it all, I'm crying about how much worse I'm getting, my mental state is desperate, and their answer was one more drug... It didn't matter how many times I expressed my concerns; it was either "follow doctor's orders" or be labeled "noncompliant".
I remember running to the bathroom to puke, as I knelt there vomiting, I felt my bowels release and knew I was going to pass-out. I remember pinning myself between the commode & bathtub so I wouldn't fall flat and choke on my own vomit.
I woke up 2 days later in my bed. I had a stroke and a brain aneurysm, damaged my liver, and it destroyed me metabolically.
I've been on disability for 13yrs thanks to anti-depressants...
Ladies, I have one suggestion: Make sure your doctor does a deep dive into your hormones and cortisol levels before you ever let them put you on any drug designed to affect your brain... Turns out it was my hormones all along...
This happened to me with medication restriction, and it was like getting a monthly concussion for 5 years straight, it destroyed me. Then it happened again for an entire month, reintroducing them even though I did it very slowly still caused an inflammatory response. This was done by medical health professionals.

Thanks for covering this. SSRIs and SNRIs give me hypomania and put me at risk of mania. I had a single bad manic episode triggered by Zoloft that almost destroyed my life. Definitely not safe. Should not be prescribed by GPs (perhaps not by anyone). IIRC Peter C. Gøtzsche covered the topic of antidepressants having an effect on school shootings and other violent crimes.

I’m a Cymbalta PAWS survivor here in Australia. The lack of education with the 14 doctors I’ve spoken to is incredibly disappointing. Heroin would be a walk in the park compared to Cymbalta in my experience.
Bobby should bring up the withdrawal and violence related murders and suicide. Australian doctors cold turkey and have a 2-4 week tapering plan. This is terrible advice. Love and peace from Australia 🇦🇺
Cymbalta gave me kidney renal failure with 2 visits to ED and weeks in ICU.

Spent less than 20mins with psych, they never explained anything at Joondalup MH.
I walked out with Cymbalta Mirtazapine and 400mg of Seroquel

I told you about my experience with Citalopram, I have thought for years that a HUGE number of these violent events are caused in part by the HALUCINATIONS in the BEGINNING of being on the drugs , the first few weeks on the meds.....NOT coming off them

Absolutely. I am on pain medication for the rest of my life. My tolerance is high, I’m constantly underdosed and tell me I’m at risk at killing myself. 15mg bupenorphine patches to 20mg is not going to kill me. Right now I am so limited by pain I can barely look after myself. I’m never going to recover from my illness, so what does it matter if I have a physical addiction to it? I just want to live a shorter lifespan without the excruciating pain that I live daily. It is that that makes me depressed. It is that that gives me anxiety that I’m struggling to live a normal day and simply exist.

I got sick from tetracycline and Xanax
She doesn't know alot about these medications. I worked with people with severe mental illness for a year in a crisis home and I seen first hand how those mental health medications affect these people with terrible side effects. I felt so bad for them when they would come to the kitchen in the morning and the looks on their faces were like either zombies or their minds would be slow or numb. Some had a blank stare with glossy eyes, some still could not sleep for days, and some the medications would not even get rid of their anxiety and they would seem worse as evidenced by their agitation or hallucinations. I hated to see these people on medications when I know the underlying problem was never resolved. Therapy is better and what's better than that is God's spiritual help. If they only knew.

7 years with protracted withdrawal syndrome which recently got much worse when I tried a hyperbolic taper to lower my dose of paxil. Suicidal and homicidal ideation is common in pws. You can find thousands of people talking about it on any of the withdrawal support websites. Pain and emotional symptoms are worse than anything I thought it was possible to experience. It's hell on earth.

My child took every manner of psych med for nearly a decade until the age of 15. Docs give so many different meds for ASD. They do cause serious emotional blunting and suicidality and violent behavior.

I have just come off a well known SSRI. I was on this drug because of very challenging physical health problems which thank God have been resolved very successfully with multiple surgeries. When I was on it my emotions were flat, both negative and positive. I needed help for a while, and now I do not. I have been off now for a few weeks and it really has been quite the roller coaster. Things are now settling down as they generally do in life. Now I am doing very well in life generally and I am old. I had much life experience to deal with this period of somewhat swinging moods. However this is a powerful experience that probably would be very much more challenging and confusing for a younger person. After all we have stronger emotions when we are younger, and when those normal swings are amplified then things can get out of hand. RF Kennedy is just asking for evidence, that's all. The treatment he is receiving just shows us the extent to which politicians have been captured by Big Pharma, I am not saying they are all corrupt, probably many are though. This woman attacking Kennedy may well have her heart in the right place, but her questions are flowing from a position of a dishonest appraisal of Kennedy's position.
Is it believable that this female senator was on SSRIs "at one time" and isn't still on them? If she came off of them, wouldn't she know how difficult it was to come off of them. I have trouble believing that anyone could come off of an SSRI and not know how difficult it is.
It's not always difficult to get off of them. She probably didn't have any problem so she thinks everybody's the same. Plus she's getting paid by big pharma so she'll say anything they want her to.

I've been on them, hated how they made me feel. My son had a bad reaction and I know several people who took years to get away from them and kept changing types of anti depression. Wish docs would focus on exercise, healthy foods and spirituality.
Antidepressants cause akathisia and akathisia causes suicide and homicide (including school shootings). Antidepressant withdrawal and benzodiazepine withdrawal can injure and take years, even decades to recover and some never go back to what they were doing prior. People are losing careers, homes, even children no longer speaking to them because of the poor messaging. Everyone thinks antidepressants are not dangerous. One pill can injure. Especially SNRIs. My partner’s brother is dead after an Effexor trial and she was injured trying Prozac, but most of my friends took them for years thinking they were helping until they went to stop them. Withdrawal is just brain change being unmasked. It’s brain injury until it changes back. They “lie” is that it does not have to and can even worsen months or years off. I will never forget the words “tardive” or (chronic) “akathisia” or “dystonia” the rest of my life.

I spent eight years on anti-depressants and they caused my health to deteriorate. It took me almost two years to wean off of them. There was no protocol. The pharma company clearly wants patients for life. I do think if I had not found research on my own to figure out how to self wean with the help of a functional medicine doctor I would have needed to be in a rehab facility to get off of them. Anyone who stops taking them cold turkey after that length of time could
have severe setbacks. I took Celexa first then was later switched to Cymbalta. My gp prescribed both.

@ I have been off of them for over ten years and am now in my late fifties. I feel like I’m better in many ways but am dealing with a major brain fog that has shown up in the last few years. I do have complex PTSD from the past and am doing EMDR therapy to work through some of that so that along with age could be the reason for the brain fog.

SSRIs should only be prescribed to people that have an actual serotonin deficiency! I wouldn't recommend antidepressants to people with Bipolar or schizophrenia that would be extremely reckless!! That's why theirs mood stabilisers drugs for people In that particular category! If someone gets put on the wrong medication for the wrong condition the results are catastrophic!!
All medications are toxic. Chemicals are what cause schizophrenia. Bipolar might be a b6 and zinc deficiency.
Those people are all shamefully ignorant or liars or both and she is most certainly no exception...
