Great work. I have beta tested a few pieces of hardware for Insteon. I'm starting to build a system and was considering Insteon, Wink, or Smartthings. Based on your review I may have to scrap what Insteon gear I have and go with Smartthings. Any other videos you make would be helpful too. Subscribed.

+Chris Policastro Hey thanks! I'm trying to get better at these. I have a ton of tech I've been asked to review so if you have any suggestions let me know. I know the editing is trash but I tried to jot some notes before the video :)

+Brian Kinney (webdevb) Hey, not the best looking video, but the content is what I was looking for. Looking to buy a smartthings hub and trying to get some "real" people using it not paid advertisers or people who don't seem to know what they are talking about. The content is there and that's what counts! If you do some cool projects with smartthings you should share it.

hey man, that's a really nice review! Just a qq on your desk light.. is it dimmable ready? i'm looking to get a couple of these GE but not sure if they can be dimmed from my ST hub? GE Link, Wireless A19 Smart Connected LED Light Bulb, Soft White (2700K), 60-Watt Equivalent, 1-Pack
    Thanks!

+Khaled Hiato Thank you! I'm trying to get better at these! The desk light is a standard $9 desk lamp with a GE Link Bulb in it. It is totally dimmable with the SmartThings hub, and one of the biggest reasons I like it actually. The Staples Connect only offered off and on functionality, where the SmartThings hub gives you a huge slider where you can go from 0 - 100 on it. What's great is if your a big fan of smartapps like I am, you can be specific to the dim level you set things on automated or manual activities. Too cool!

+Brian Kinney (webdevb) awesome! i Googled it after i left you a comment and found out that the GE connected bulb is actually dimmable, it was a surprise to almost everybody who bought it as it doesn't clearly say it is! and yea, im a geek same like u, in fact, my ST kit is on the way as we speak! thanks for the reply, have a good Holidays!

You need OpenHAB mate, then integrate everything into that

Brian Kinney It's a little hard to get your head around at first, but its well worth learning as its a fantastic piece of home automation kit - even better that its open source and FREE! Ties into many different vendor devices supporting all their protocols. Once version 2.0 comes out, it'll make life a lot easier when configuring things (apparently new version has "wizard" driven menu's as opposed to manually editing configuration files in 1.x release) Good luck!
