As a computer scientist I am very much for this, but if we really want children to go into STEM subjects or any job where they have to interact with computers we really need to teach these kids how to type first and foremost. Watch these childrens' hands. They are using just one hand and even some of them only two fingers. Look at the speed they're typing at. They have no idea to start and it's really going to set them back in the long run. Teachers spend so much time teaching children how to hold a pen but they do not spend any time at all teaching them how to type. When I was in school there were still 18 year olds, who had to look at their keyboard everytime they wanted to type a letter and only typed with one finger. I myself was never taught in school and had developed my own and incredibly inefficient way of touch typing. I had to spend hours and hours during my first year of university undoing all the damage and taching myself from scratch. This video was released 7 years ago whenever it could be reasonably expected that most children would have experience with computers. Today most children have never used a pc or laptop, being more familiar with ipads and phones. If we want to support our children and set them up for good, fulfilling lives whether they go into arts, STEM, practical jobs or even teaching, we should ditch the Scratch and teach them typing which will stay with them forever and greatly improve their lives.
Damn these kids are lucky, i'm in 8th grade in germany and all we do is do word stuff and powerpoint. We dont even really use tech in the classroom. Its really just IT class
There are many, and I mean MANY, online resources you could use (or books) that can help you with coding, which is how MANY people learned coding (including me). If you need help I can guide you to learning programming!
@@issacodes9621 what books or resources do you recommend, I'm doing computer science and I'm struggling so much with grasping basic things. I feel like these kids in the video are smater than me.
@@shoobzy3431 Let me know what language/topic you are learning first, I cant really help you without atleast that. For most cases though, the language you are learning has a main page for documentation, like C++ for example: cplusplus.com/ Read and ask questions in forums like reddit to strengthen your knowledge while also getting familiar with terminology you would not be otherwise familiar with. I can't really recommend any books as I don't know what you are learning about exactly.
I don’t think the majority of kids actually understand it it’s tough stuff. The school wants to show they are doing something impressive. People tell me it’s taking away from their ability to develop and play. I was never a very athletic or social kid myself and there may be a few ones who are into that but the majority of even adults I know don’t get that
"millions of jobs" I know so many programmers are unemployed, i think they need to specify which industries these millions of jobs are going to be created. I think programmers are too cheap, teaching kids to code at school is going to make it even cheaper to hire a programmer. But in the end what is programmer, its not just someone who know how to code in C#, its someone with a particular skill set that can solve a particular problem in his domain of expertise. So i think what they should be teaching in school is logical thinking and not a programming tool that can become obsolete once they graduate.
awss jalal And that's why you need brilliant.org to solve life's most challenging issues. No school teach yourself. Have school but it trying to teach you an out dated language go to the computer science section and learn the fundamentals of all languages.
Even a language that becomes outdated will familiarize their brain with concepts like assignment, loops, and branching. Which will stick with them for future programming languages.
The way how technology is evolving, coding will be considered as a must have skill in future. However, classroom curriculum isn't enough for kids. That is why at TechyKids, we offer tech based courses and programs which are taught 100% online. To know more, visit our website at >> www.techykids.ca/
Coding Blocks Jr is a coding game for children that teaches kids programming in a fun way. Simply build a robot, code it with the coding bricks & play programming ...
There is no future in coding, it will be mostly done by other programs based on requirements. There are sooo many unemployed or under-employed coders that should be the news story, but that would require to much effort on the part of the news organization.
+Brian McConkey Perhaps if schools spent more time as they did in the past teaching English with a push towards reawakening a knowledge of spelling and grammar, their attempts at coding or computer programming might be more successful.

hi i really like your comments on this video, are you a teacher by any chance im a classroom teacher i need some assistance on this concept
I love how whenever anyone puts code up hackertyper style, they always use the Linux kernel source code. Even hackertyper does this.
seriously
i like how everyone in movies are just programming a linux computer to hack into a windows computer
wow that's amazing, me too i'am learning html and php, coding it's so cool
How its going

Software languages will also be like other languages soon , like a language to communicate with robot
Why can't Indian govt. Start something like this in school system in India?

Every kid should learn how to code!
I'm being forced to learn it in school and it bores the crap out of me

yeah, unemployed because they're freelancers.
Indie game developers are not working in office but from their home. Officially they're unemployed.
Life will teach them to be logical. You don't need _grades_ for logic.

watching this gives me anxiety, I now wish I learned coding when I was in kindergarten

It's called programming. But whatever, forget it anyway. You're only a leading News Network, must be hard to properly english.

do you mean, "it must be hard to use proper English"?
I was imitating them dipshit. Must be hard to infer.
+steven boyer nice cover.
And, coding is a perfectly acceptable term. Your comment is ridiculous.
+David Stachon Yep, you nailed him. His attempt to cover his ass was almost as pathetic as his initial brain fart.
