The kingdoms of Ammon, Moab, and Edom fought with the Israelites and the Judahites over territory. Edom and the Amalekites, descendants of Esau, son of Isaac, were ancient biblical nations in the land of Canaan. They were the first nation to attack the Jewish people after the Exodus from Egypt and are seen as the archetypal enemies of the Jews. Claiming the God-given right to the Promised Land (Canaan), occupied by the Amalekites, belonged to the Israelites, Joshua, the leader of the Israelites, conquered Canaan and killed Esau's grandson Amalek and all the Amalekites in Canaan.
The Old Testament and all God‘s dealings in the Old Testament was to protect and bring about Jesus Christ, the Israel of God that one seed, that all men could look to for salvation. It always was by faith those who looked forward to the salvation of the Lord. It wasn’t about the Jewish people as a nation. It was about the spiritual nation God was building in Christ!!
