Him getting that old toy back is adorable and amazing since its been such a long time. Kinda speaks about the utter dimension of the little things in life in Ishiguro's work, like that tape called 'Songs After Dark' in Never Let Me Go. Amazing author.
I don't see how the word "demolishes" could possibly be applied to his work, which is too quiet and tasteful to provoke such an extreme reaction. His books are slowish, reflective, imbued with formality and a sense of restraint that can impress (Remains of the Day) or lull the reader into a state just short of sleep (Never Let Me Go and the one with "Floating" in the title) I don't read this author for high drama or juiciness. His titles and blurbs interest me, but the actual experience of reading his books is like going to a dinner party at a rich person's home and being served tofu. These are the kinds of books that readers who want to impress others read. They exhibit excellent writing skills but are not particularly entertaining. That does not mean I won't read anymore of his books, only that I have to be in the mood for his impeccable, somewhat arid style.
I'm glad I heeded his advice about genre before having seen this video, having decided on a whim to pick up one of his books in a store, outside of the shelves of the genres I normally browse.
I'm not saying that Kazuo Ishiguro didn't deserve the nobel prize, but there are so many great writers who never got their due who deserved the NP as much if not more than Kazuo. Why didnt Arthur C Clarke win the nobel? Why didnt Philip k dick or John bummer win the prize? I know why it was because they were primarily sci fi writers and scifi is not taken seriously by elitist snobs even today.
The hostess should be hosting the Hunger Games.
The interviewer was so thoughtful and polite. Honest and transparent. Very nice to see this.
I heartily concur !

My sentiments exactly !
This man is an incredible author. He demolishes me every time I read his work.

Such a classy interviewer, very respectful and what a thoughtful gift!
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point.
I really love this video, the Nobel Prize organization! Please make more like it! It's a magnificent setup and a great interview.
she is so visually fascinating, need to draw.
She looks more like a Disney character than an interviewer.

I totally enjoyed everything about this video. No point in listing.
Great interview, weird fashion choice for the hostess though.
lmfao
She is looks pretty
It's like vampire style or something heh! A literal vampy look
what a great man !
She looks like she came straight out of the Hunger Game.
Wasn't she in the Hunger Games?
Who's the interviewer?
I am pretty sure she is a vampire!
Is that a Surrey accent?
Nardwuar for novelists
She's like Nardwuar
Haruki Murakami also said that he himself has given up to be a musician because he was not good at playing music...
😀

John McCassidy
Chill.
Why can't Stephen King take it? STEPHEN KING DESERVES THIS MORE THAN ISHIGURO...ISHIGURO IS GREAT AUTHOR
Arthur C Clark has a prestigious award too in his own name. Amitav Ghosh has won it
Joyce, maybe the closest you can get to a consensus Greatest Writer of the 20th Century, didn't win the Nobel. Basically who cares
