The fact that Winding is colourblind and still makes so beautiful looking movies is mindbending
It's the same for Christopher Nolan too.
It would be funny if this whole time he thought he was making movies that look completely normal due to his colour blindness, and has no idea he keeps creating these beautiful masterpieces of cinematography and colour.
Hold up! I just found out he's colorblind.
His dp isn’t colorblind 😜
@@mayukh9536 well Nolans films are really not known for their color palettes
I love Ryan’s acting behind these kinds of pieces. “DRIVE” is my favorite film to this day hands down. It’s something about delivering the message without having to say much. I love it.
Soundtrack in drive is all time too
same way with this movie. love a movie that just shows, without having to directly state every little thing. julian is practically the inverse of the driver. driver has something worth fighting for that he loses, Julian has nothing worth fighting for and is forced into upholding something he doesn't believe in. both are fantastic.
couldn't agree more
I heard Gosling only has 17 lines of dialogue in this.. and knowing "You wanna fight?" is one....makes me even more excited :)
thats like all his movies tho
For anyone planning on seeing this film and expecting action, forget about it. This movie uses a lot of symbolism, and is quite slow paced but an absolutely incredible film. JUST MAKE SURE YOU FOCUS ON THE HANDS! That is all.
Thanks for the heads up lol I was actually planning on not watching it cause it looked more action focused and driven
Bro this movie was not incredible at all lmao wtf did I just watch. Amazing acting amazing cinematography & colors but theres no character development at all and the plot just makes you question wtf the director was thinking this whole time.
@@RyanS4747Good to know. Cuz I literally can't find it on any streaming service I have to watch & I really don't wanna have to rent it from UA-cam ( can't find it anywhere else )
@RyanS4747 ya I think the director is a psychopath
@@tanyapicou5385it’s currently on Netflix now.
I can't wait till ten years from now when all the hipster snobs and failed film students act like they loved this film when it came out.
Mr. Kazu Premium Fantasy I remember looking forward to this film so much but was mind numbingly bored watching it. 7 years later and I still feel the same. Some incredibly cool moments though
That. Spot on.
MrLucch drive was much better
Ouch
@@miguelvidalmartinez9456 Its not a question of better. The two films were made for two different audiences. Drive is an art house film with main stream appeal and Only God Forgives is strictly an art house film.
If david lynch directed it everyone would love it... this movie is great one of my favourites
+caz Wrong and False. I love lynch although Inland Empire was shit and Lost highway was okay. Not everything he makes is gold. I love Refn too, this is probably my least favourite film of his. Visually it might actually be his best but it lacks atmosphere and tension which is very unlike Refn or Lynch (there are some great scenes in this however)
+Lewis C hm I have to disagree with you I don't know if you're aware of inland empires background? David was experiencing with a digital camera, basically the whole movie is an experiment. he put some of the scenes together and thought might as well make a movie out of it, that's why the camera work looks so different and the scenes don't seem to correlate at times. however, after a more extensive analysis, you'll come to realise that it's actually well thought for something that came out of the blue. that's why I believe that if lynch made it everyone would love it, simply because coming from him it can be random but it sure won't lack meaning. people expect it and applause. for refn that doesn't seem to happen. drive, one of his best movies from my point of view, was booed at cannes (only the greatest are to be honest) And most people hated it. I take you as a cinema fan, would you agree that drive was one of his best works ? the problem with refn is that he's still adjusting the world to his style, in some years people will appreciate his art. as for the lack of tension, I also disagree entirely. I was on the edge of my sit while watching this movie. maybe you say that because of the slow pace ? nor sure. just suggesting but I do believe the slow pace and dream like imagery is very important to contrast hell with heaven
+Lewis C I did in fact mistaken it
I'm a teen yes but what does that imply ? just because I'm a teen doesn't mean I have the same train of thought as the next one does that sounded awfully condescending.. we're merely discussing ideas and I don't have to agree with you. it doesn't make me any better or worse having a divergent opinion
I believe movies are not randomly made just because you don't get the full picture by watching it once. you might stare at a picture for the longest time and not comprehend it's meaning. cinema is art therefore subjective. David lynchs recurring theme is the separation of the real world and and dreamy one. such has happened in blue velvet, and without post analyses what you get from it is that oh okay so basically Frank is a mobster and Jeffrey is a hero. and that's utterly wrong. not all movies demand a further analysis but this specific genre I dare say neo noir with surrealistic traits does. this is not like high school musical, these are not class b movies these are art movies and just like art thought needs to be put into them and you can not like this movie tastes are tastes. and I believe that well made allegories are genious and there's nothing wrong with that. I've seen bad movies that asked for a further analyses that to me were awful. don't generalize my mind just from one opinion... I thought the metaphors from this movie were very well thought and the acting was great. so was the imagery and soundtrack and that's why I love it
+caz Lynch fans would hate it because it's nothing like a David Lynch movie.
+caz Drive wasn't booed at Cannes, to be fair. Only God Forgives was. I think OGF isn't given a fair shake, however. It's a very good movie!
I remember watching this in a empty movie theater. One of the best modern cinema I have seen, severely underrated movie. People were even walking out. It’s a beautiful film but the artform is lost on people nowadays.
Are you still there??
Imagine at the end, if Goslings character has to go on the run and the closing scene is him getting off the plane in america and looking at the scorpion jacket in a shop window.
this comment is so underrated
This is one of those movies that split up film lovers. Personally, I'm not into artsy fartsy movies unless they're quite good and strong which is why I really like this film. I just thought it was mesmerizing and disturbingly beautiful. Something about it had me in a trance. That's my opinion, don't crucify me.
Christopher Fouras Break out the nails and pli-board, folks! We got a free thinker on the loose! ;)
yeahh its called Ryan Goslin effect!
@@hugomendes8886 I was more hypnotized by Chang’s presence throughout the film and the cinematography and use of colors.

Now we don't know how many people don't wanna fight. Strange move.
This, drive and the place beyond the pines made me respect gosling and more recently blade runner he annoyed me before I saw him in darker roles (where he belongs) I hope he keeps making moves and stays always from rom coms
Gosling is masterful in these films. BR2049 is my personal favourite film, and Drive is easily a 9/10. OGF is very controversial but I think it’s great.
You should watch The nice guys xD
Solid in the Big Short as well.
Solid performance in The Believer too. Movie might seem a bit dated but it's a good one. I agree with your comment. Even La La Land was great haha. Not a dark movie at all but great performance.
One of my favorite movies he’s in is called blue valentine. It’s about the highs and lows of being in a relationship. Very unique film and he’s fantastic in it. Michelle Williams as well
It never gets old. Music still gives me goosebumps.
I just watched this film for the second time since theaters, and it’s even better to me now. I understood the themes even back then, but now that I’m 10 years older it resonated a lot more. And the karaoke scenes were beautiful. The police officers watching the “antagonist” singing at the end reminded me of angels watching God sing, based on the themes in the film. As violent as the officer was, he was just.
this trailer told me nothing. now I want to see it
This. Trailers nowadays tell you about the characters, plot, and even plot-twist of the movie
Don't bother mate, incredible trailer, appalling film
Too bad Drive (2011) didn't have a trailer lile this.
This movie is a modern masterpiece it will only get better with age
I can't believe this film is 10 years old. It still looks better than 99% of movies today
This movie will come to be appreciated in time, and so will Nicolas Winding Refn, as visionaries are never truly appreciated during their time. Glad to see him following in the steps of the God, Stanley Kubrick.
I completely agree!
Visionaries are not appreciated in their time.. James Cameron is
Listen man the only reason that this looks anything like a stanley Kubrick film is because the cinematographer was Larry smith, who was the cinematographer for eyes wide shut and who also worked on the shinning and Barry Lindon. Nicolas is not that good of a director.
@@bantasharkunited2283 he is "following" the steps, doesn't mean he is as good as Kubrick
You were right
I actually liked this trailer.
Saw it at Cannes. Absolutely amazing. Refin's visual style is phenomenal and something truly beautiful to look at. I was not in the screening when it was booed but I hope in time those critics that did boo it will come to see it for the beautiful masterpiece that it really is.
you alive bro?
Masterpiece is absurd. The visual style and cinematography is great but its a reach to even call this movie good.
@@RyanS4747 this movie is excellent. Maybe it didn't show you what you wanted to see, but thats not the movies fault, its yours.
Its not even remotely good. @Xavier_Coogat_the_Mambo_King

Pretentious much?
@@thatoneguyooo3437 it's not pretentious, it's just a bore.
Oh I understand it perfectly and I still hate every last second of it.
I recently watched this movie on Netflix for the first time. It was a struggle to get through. Watched it again about a week later and absolutely loved it. It is one of the strangest movies I’ve ever seen.
Stranger than this was vivarium
Ryan Gosling: You wanna fight?
Me: Actually, I was after a toothpick. You still have one on you?
To the people who are quick to jump on the OGF hate bandwagon I think it's important to note that a filmmakers' intentions matter. When Drive came out I got in an argument with someone who didn't like the film because it didn't have enough action in it - which is like saying you didn't like The Exorcist because it didn't make you laugh. Sometimes a person's "critique" of a film says nothing about the film itself and everything about the person who's doing the critiquing.
Only God Forgives brings out these type of half-assed critics by the droves (which is one of the reasons why I love the movie). It weeds out people who simply look at it at face value. To say that the film is "poorly written" or has "horrible character development" or that it's "slow" is not a valid critique of the movie. Again, it's like saying you don't like a movie like The Exorcist because you didn't find it funny. A filmmakers' intentions are very important.
Jesse Gumbarge Those are actually pretty valid, normal critiques. I personally didn't care for it because it never really hit the notes it seemed like it was striving to hit. It worked on a tonal level but beyond that it seemed like it didn't communicate it's ideas that well. And until you watch Bela Tarr, Tsai Ming-Liang, Tarkovsky or even Refn's Valhalla Rising don't tell me that pace was the issue because those movies are slow but still feel like there's thrust. This just seemed needlessly deliberate and not much more than an exercise in style, the same letdown The Limits of Control gave me. Beautiful to see, tedious to watch.
+Jesse Gumbarge Intentions dont matter if the film-maker fails to deliver the ideas properly or in a cinematic way. Such is the case here. It is messy and lacks tension or intrigue which is surprising coming from Refn (who is one of my favourite directors)
Finally someone who’s has some sense about movies. This movie is very deep and just can’t be understood if your watching and checking your phone every 5 minutes it’s a very deep movie and a very enjoyable one at that
OGF OMG YOU DAF LOL
Spread the good news man. spread it like wildfire
Amazing trailer, amazing movie. Haters gonna hate.
I agree. We were studying atmosphere and mood in movies, and this movie came up for red.
Gattaca for yellow.
The Matrix for green.
Day breakers for blue.
Wasn't any good candidates for orange and purple.
Christopher Benson Lost River?!
Christopher Benson Sunshine for orange.
***** For Violet?
People with differing opinions are 'haters' now? What a misused word.
still one of only two or three films i've seen that made me cry out of sheer beauty
+Declan Cochran Cant tell if your joking...
no setup, no punchline, it's not looking like a joke to me
I was thinking more along the lines of satire and I agree that the cinematography is great, but worth crying over? lol Love the movie too btw.
Nicolas Winding Refn has abnormally quickly become one of my favorite directors. The dude knows how to make an interesting film through inventive use of music, cinematography and spared dialogue. I admire that man. Oh, and Gosling's always on point which is just another little added plus. So looking forward to this.
This is probably my second favorite film of all time... the first being transformers.
Lmao
LOL
Are you joking?
This is legit hilarious
This person is obviously very young...
One of the most beautiful thought provoking film's I have ever seen, in my weird way of putting thing's it's yin and yang at it's full potential..
This movie is so polarizing for me. One side of me says I like it, the other says I dont.
Love this trailer. The visuals, music, and stylization of the text. Nothing given away, but enough to be interested. Even if a film ends up being not what you expected it to be, at least you gave it a chance by it's well-crafted advertising. Sometimes, that's what makes art fun.
Thought it was the best movie in the past 10 years. You don't see movies like this anymore and probably won't the way things are going.
Dialogue was terrible and plot was weak and the characters weren't much besides the judge.
It has mystery, but its also easy enough to follow. It has symbolism and metaphors, but also interesting crime story with fight scene. Unique experience and beautiful visuals. I liked it.
He plays the loner role superbly. There's nothing wrong with that. He's a very talented actor who can play, literally, almost any role he's given.
Brilliant movie.... but holy HELL is it hard to watch at parts. Refn has a knack for creating unspeakable violence on screen.
Loved this movie! The art in the violence...
The trailer does promise something way more action packed than what you're gonna get. And thank god for that. This is a heavy movie, not for any time of the day. If you like Refn's unmatchable neon groove, long scenes with little dialogue but drenched in a truly creepy atmosphere, interrupted only by short scenes of crucial ultraviolence then this is will be a movie that will stay with you. The most important thing is to know what you should expect.
Another movie that Ryan Gosling describes literally me
I like Ryan gosling's acting techniques. In a way he has a sense of calmness about him in all his movies, to where you end up feeling relaxed. And i know in this movie hes going to do great.
Anyone else think almost EVERY film Ryan has been in have phenomenal music scores?
Just wait for La La Land in 2016
@@alapan5030 this made me giggle
Truly a underrated movie that gets too much hate
This looks incredible. Inspirational director, and Ryan Gosling doing what he does best....can't wait!
Best trailer ever. Better than the film
Ryan Gosling, you beauty!

This movie also got a standing ovation at Cannes, look it up on UA-cam. I still can't wait to see this film!

I still think this is the best trailer ever made. It did however mess up my expectations for the film. I hated it briefly until i realized i do in fact love it.
After loving Drive, I'm ready to watch anything from these two!
If only the movie were this good

This movie grows on you, you might not like it at first, but I did appreciate this movie
I don’t particularly like this movie, but there is something that always draws me back to it, I watch it a few times a year because when I start thinking about it, I need to see it again.
movie was good, this trailer is in my top 3 all time though.
"Wanna fight". There is something very comical about that line . Like he is asking him if he want to play with him
Song name is Tur Kue Kwam Fun - Proud
It's ridiculous how misunderstood this flick is. In time, it will find respect. Bloody brilliant.

Drive is a piece of art work and this flick looks like we as viewers are in for another master piece
this film is a masterpiece, and to those that don't understand this tone of genre, stick to a transformers movie.
Be quiet you pretentious condescending twonk. I loved this film, but it's just not accessible, and liking it doesn't make you any better then anyone.
This movie is such a fairy tale, I’m in love with Refn’s films!!!!
this is probably the best trailer ever made
Drive is one of my favorites and it had a LOT of haters. Based on that, the more bad reviews I read about this and how slow/violent it is the more I know I'm gonna love it lol! I hear the big fight scene is very badass...
ncj25 drive is much better than this one
Sounds like you heard WRONG
He really has a great conviction of style AND substance. One of the things I loved about "Drive" is that with the exception of Cook and Christina Hendricks' character, you can identify with everyone in that film. It will probably go down as one of the best films of the decade. I can see myself putting it in my top ten.
Beautiful.
Gosling was like "Catch me outside, how bout dat"
Objectively, this is a not a good movie. Subjectively, this is a very good movie.
the trailer looked so promising..... :(
jennyB07 Yup, the whole movie was pretty much shown within the trailer, pretty disappointing for me too. Btw you are beautiful :)
Glad someone finds me funny
+ProfitableLifestyles Awkward much
I watch this alot and it's just so beautiful
I like how it has the peaceful music playing with the violence
Some sheep don't understand art films.
mathehasser Keep hating if that makes you feel better.
Yeah
+Christopher Benson Some people have their own opinion which is neither right or wrong. I thought the movie was awful. Shot beautifully, but awful storytelling. Personal opinion. If you liked it, great. Doesn't make you a genius or more artistically superior.
EddBSmith Exactly, an opinion. Sometimes people these days don't get implied sarcasm. An opinion is like an asshole..
Weakest of all Refn's films. Valhalla Rising, Bronson, Drive, Pusher series or Fear X are better. Stunning cinematography and soundtrack though as always. Yes I got what he was going for in this film especially the metaphors but you have to execute it well. Some scenes in this were excellent like the dream sequences and the hallways. But for example the torture scene was just....boring and too long, which is something that I never say of Refn's violence in films. He always says if you love or hate my film then ive succeeded and I agree that most of his films really affected me (good thing) but OGF was messy and tedious at points.
+Lewis C wholeheartedly agree with everything you said man. It's style over substance, there's no denying that it's a stunning movie to look at but it's just plain boring and awkward, even the performance were kinda over the top. Especially's Kristin Scott Thomas'.
its a fantastic film. i believe it to be up there with drive and bronson. with drive being my favorite
Lewis C I've only seen four Refn films:
I'd rank them:
4. The Neon Demon(8/10)
3. Only God Forgives(8/10)
2. Bronson(8/10)
1. Drive(10/10)
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie!
The Trailer was way better than the movie.
This movie and much more you can to watch here *AllMoviesWatch . com*
loved the trailer. the movie...eh i didnt like it at all. Great artwork and cinematography tho
you should go watch fast n furious
The movie was properly misunderstood. The director had a hit with 'drive' but here he allowed himself to be more artistic with this one, the crowd who wanted a hollywood blockbuster like 'drive' was let down. But if you actually watch the movie with the right mindset, it's not bad at all. The story and plot was secondary to the cinematography and atmosphere and that is probably what threw a lot of people off it. Which is of course fair.
Simon I hated this this film the first time I saw it but the second time I rewatched it I had a more mature and better mindset and than I saw it again a third time with the director’s commentary on and I absolutely I loved it. This movie is a masterpiece.
Instant cult classic.
piece of shit movie, Drive was better.
The dark knight rises was shit.
Terry Silvester ikr
Arlan Wells-Raynes You can't compare movies like that, these are two separate experiences, its like saying "Mad Max: Fury Road is shit, Happy Feet 2 was better".
Watching this movie right now, Ryan Gosling In serious character roles just gel
MASTERPIECE!!!
I'm still on the fense with this film. A just don't know after 5 times watching it
Pure Masterpiece, a must see, the best film of the latest 2 years, with sooooo many meanings expressed through a few of dialogues and a lot of breathtaking shots. Only God Forgives, think on the title and on the characters when the film will be finished
Ryan Gosling only has to say 2 words the entire trailer and it still makes me want to see this badass movie
Cnt wait to see this!!!!
I love this song
This type of movie is not for most people, but I personally love these types of films. This movie might be lacking in some major ways and be strange and disturbing enough to be hugely off-putting to the average viewer. But if you’re the type of person who is patient, open to interpreting and analyzing little details, and can appreciate a work of art, then the dazzling, neon soaked visuals, brutal violence, and the intense atmosphere this movie creates should give you more than enough to appreciate the ride.
thnx:)
Three movies in a row starring Ryan Gosling, and he's playing a badass in each of them. Ryan Gosling lovers are definitely getting spoiled like no other actor's fans out there.
I'm going on it this weekend :3 can't wait =)
