I remember I was feeling down as hell, so I smoked a fat Indica joint, listened to some Nick Drake/Beck and man was I feeling BETTER. Life made more sense.
Geniuses. Kindred spirits. Intersection. Love it. Not a mimic, but a tribute. The world is a better place for both of them having been part of it. Thanks, Beck. Thanks, Nick. Thanks intersection. Let there be more.
Nick Drake's classic original song is the song I imagine when spring arrives. I spend days lying down in the forest or meadows listening to his classic. Beck's wonderful cover is the exact opposite of that: I'd listen to this song as the sun sets in the Autumn, watching trees lose their leaves.
Very interesting perspective. I feel your sentiments completely. I don't think this is the best cover of the song, but I appreciate that Beck is a Nick Drake fan enough to record this. I think his cover of "Parasite" is stronger. Now THAT is a song with no season except the dregs of winter.
I believe that the title should make clear that this is a Nick Drake song being covered by Beck. Beck also does an excellent cover of Parasite by Nick Drake. The more I learn about Nick Drake and hear his genius artistry the further down his fabulous rabbit hole I go! Kudos to Beck for this fabulous cover! Thank you for the upload, much appreciated!
As I said in response to another commenter, I don't think this is the best cover of the song, but I appreciate that Beck is a Nick Drake fan enough to record this. I think his cover of "Parasite" is stronger. It's extremely difficult to cover a Nick Drake song that comes anywhere close to the depth, emotional power and authenticity of the original.
Outstanding interpetation of a great song. Beck gives it his signature stark, acoustic flavor while honouring the essential atmosphere and spirit of the tune.
I love this. He captured the simplicity of Nicks voice. A lot of people stress their voice and try and make it better. Well sadly they just ruin a good song. Call it slow but he is on beat and his voice is fantastic.
now now, guys.... I'm sure if nick drake were still alive, he'd be happy that someone else played his song. Also, beck did this for fun, and not anything else.
I know he covered the whole album. I just fucking said he did. He did it as a tribute, God forbid, and put his own spin on those songs and didn't charge ANYONE to listen to it. So what's the problem with that? If you want to talk about songwriting, Beck has, literally, hundreds of RELEASED originals to his name covering just about every genre you could possibly think of, and does all of them pretty damn well. Educate yourself, Mr.Dave.
nothing really can match the brilliance of perhaps Nick Drake's best song... but this was a very nice cover. I was already a Beck fan and this only makes me more so. Does anyone know if/where this recording was released?
FUCKING AWESOME....I can't think of any other artist who can do justice to their deep respect for Drake without immiating him BRAVO Beck, you are a true original man; no one fucks with your crazy ass brilliance
No surprise that you would GET Beck's creative sensibilities, considering you listen to Beefheart, Don Vanvliet's(among others) work will cultivate your ear magnificently to the infinite sonic wonder of what genuine creative artistry is ALL about! He is among the many notable genre0busting pioneers who changed the course of contemporary music, taking it out of the tyrannical commercial conventions and into the wide open frontier.
BECK and so many others resolve the chorus UP, the last pink moon. Nick takes his lower, which I think leaves a little bit of the tension in the song which just makes you want to hear more. I wonder if they do it because it is acoustically an easier note/interval to articulate or if the original musical phrase is somewhat discomforting.
im so bias here because i have such a deep love nick drakes music. it saw me through some of the lower parts in my life which is why i probably am not the best person to judge this. but opinions are what they are and mine does not look favorably to this cover. ps ive heard others do covers of nick and pull it off gracefully
not to mention Golden Feeelings, Stereopathetic Soulmanure, A Western Harvest Field by Midnight, and One Foot in the Grave to name a few of his rarer, lesser known albums
It's a Beck's dedication to Nick without retouching it. Something you wouldn't expect from Beck. Which is typical Beck! But it's certainly NOT terrible!
@SloanKetering So was Drake he hung his self after his third album. He was a manic depressive, from Cambridge. The same English City that brought you Pink Floyd.Drake played guitar with his long finger nails.Think it gave him that unique sound.Guitar players used to go into shops, saying I want to sound like Nick Drake.Thinking he was using something to get that sound.Bye he was just using his talent, musically emotionally and spiritually. You should check out his albums. He was not really famous then.
well said HexicNexus. Intolerance is intolerance, and bigotry is bigotry. There are equally corrupt and redeeming, noble, virtuous, elements to EVERY single group, religion and spiritual affiliation known to mankind. Thanks for shedding some light on the ignorance.
Hmmm...I don't know what to think about it. I have a lot of respect for Nick Drake. It's too bad that he couldn't get past the fact that people are always judging, and in turn alienating each other. I also am a huge Beck fan as well. If you haven't heard anything off of Sea Changes, I'd recommend it. This song is done in a very characteristically "Beck" way. I do happen to like the Nick Drake version better, but I'm down to hear anyone's interpretation of any artist I love. Open arms!
I think it is interesting to hear Beck do a cover the song, like I dont think it was planned or rehearsed, I think he just did it to get in the mood and gain inspiration from a beatiful song...how can you up the qante on this song anyway? Essentially I dont think it is about upping an ante...I think it is about conveying truth and being free to express and sing your heart and feel etc...
Just like Bod Dylan went and corrected Jimi's version of Watchtower was the way that song was written to be played, so I think Beck makes a mark here on Pink
the guys commenting below me are idiots. Beck obviously recorded this out of love for Drake's music, not hate for it. It is a different version, but what do you expect, Beck to just completely copy another artist? I don't think so. He made it his own while keeping it's integrity, and I think Nick Drake would enjoy it. Beck Hansen is a genius who does justice to every genre.
Let's get a few things straight. Nick Drake was truly great. Beck is also a musical genius. THE POINT OF A COVER IS NOT TO "OUTDO" THE ORIGINAL, but rather, to pay tribute or show respect for a piece of work the covering artist likes (or wants to make money on, which is not the case for this cover). Anyone who knows anything about beck knows that he is very diverse and has no problem writing original material. He did not "butcher" Drake's song. It's a different interpretation, like it or not.
@theallfaith we got lucky that people took alot of photo's of him so we can draw such comparisons... i think irish comedian tommy tiernan put it best when he said that if jesus is still alive, he's without a doubt in the beegees.
This is great,Becks voice suits this so well . Check out Mr Drake by Unorfadox on You Tube ,its a fab tribute song without trying to sound like Nick Drake, Just a song for him,Nice !!
this coming from someone who promotes being lonely. awesome. your opinion matters. Beck's music isnt pop...Pop is too straightforward. That would be like calling Wilco pop. Anyway heres my point Elliott > Beck. Friends > Solitude. strength is relative only to what you percieve it as and the word has little value. what you're really saying is hey im lonely. Nick Drake is deserves a lot of respect for his influence on music, Beck deserves a kick in the balls. Decent cover but still
I think a cover done well, whoever the Artist is a tribute and a testement to the original artist. the thing about opinions they are like bum holes every bodies got one !!!!
Agreed. This song would adapt itself so well to Beck's style. Sure, the diehard Drake fans would cry out blasphemy, but I think it's a greater disservice to try to imitate the original; you simply can't improve on a masterpiece by trying to copy it exactly.
I remember I was feeling down as hell, so I smoked a fat Indica joint, listened to some Nick Drake/Beck and man was I feeling BETTER.
Life made more sense.
Clearly, Beck truly loves this song. There is true earnest heart in this cover. It shows in the mix.
Geniuses. Kindred spirits. Intersection. Love it. Not a mimic, but a tribute. The world is a better place for both of them having been part of it. Thanks, Beck. Thanks, Nick. Thanks intersection. Let there be more.

Astute comment.
very intelligent and well-written - a true Rarity on UA-cam
Nick drake songs remind me of the pain of sitting inside, with no where to go on a sunny day.
Very interesting perspective. I feel your sentiments completely. I don't think this is the best cover of the song, but I appreciate that Beck is a Nick Drake fan enough to record this. I think his cover of "Parasite" is stronger. Now THAT is a song with no season except the dregs of winter.
Beautiful, Nick Drake would be so proud. Beck is probably one of pop last true artists.
Thanks for sharing.
One brilliant artist showing respect to another. Very nice.
i dont know how people can talk down about this cover i think it captures the mood almost perfectly
There's some awesome covers of Nick. An everlasting tribute he'd be proud of.
wonderful Interpretation of a wonderful song .. Nice work Beck !
Wonderful song and wonderful version...
Marco Maggiore
Beck is even more awesome now ;)
Love his cover of this song; perfect sentiment.
Outstanding interpetation of a great song. Beck gives it his signature stark, acoustic flavor while honouring the essential atmosphere and spirit of the tune.
Very nice cover of a truly great song. Glad I stumbled upon it.
Never knew of this cover... both of them are great :)
An honest homage to the great Nick Drake......Kudos, nice job Beck!
Love the feelin', very tight. Keep uploading
His voice suits this really well
I could'nt agree more :) One of the Colloquial names for the April Full Moon is Pink Moon..Which arrives tommorrow :) 25th April
yeah its definitely a successful interpretation. beck's voice is so, so sweet...
pleased to hear becks cover of nick drakes song-nice match
a beautiful cover
I love this. He captured the simplicity of Nicks voice. A lot of people stress their voice and try and make it better. Well sadly they just ruin a good song. Call it slow but he is on beat and his voice is fantastic.
Beck really does a reverent and earnest treatment here. Bravo.
now now, guys....
I'm sure if nick drake were still alive, he'd be happy that someone else played his song.
Also, beck did this for fun, and not anything else.
God bless Nick Drake R.I.P
yeah it's a good cover. beck understand everything here. such a magic song. i'm always sad when this song is over... when the music is over... yeah
I know he covered the whole album. I just fucking said he did. He did it as a tribute, God forbid, and put his own spin on those songs and didn't charge ANYONE to listen to it. So what's the problem with that? where can I find this version its wonderful
nothing really can match the brilliance of perhaps Nick Drake's best song... but this was a very nice cover. I was already a Beck fan and this only makes me more so. Does anyone know if/where this recording was released?
nice..I'm touched
He covered Oar as a tribute. And released it online for free. He didn't "copy a whole album".
Why doesn't Nick Drake's version get this many hits?
Like Beck really needs your approval or disapproval of his cover of this song.
FUCKING AWESOME....I can't think of any other artist who can do justice to their deep respect for Drake without immiating him
BRAVO Beck, you are a true original man; no one fucks with your crazy ass brilliance
The pink moon is today, also holy shit on this performance
No surprise that you would GET Beck's creative sensibilities, considering you listen to Beefheart, Don Vanvliet's(among others) work will cultivate your ear magnificently to the infinite sonic wonder of what genuine creative artistry is ALL about! He is among the many notable genre0busting pioneers who changed the course of contemporary music, taking it out of the tyrannical commercial conventions and into the wide open frontier.

Good question
Perhaps they admire Drake so much, artists covering the song think he's entitled to be distinguished from them.
Did not know he did this cover, very nice.
Magic!

Worthy.

If there was anyone to do cover of this song (and many do and do an amzing job) than who better...?
It's a Beck's dedication to Nick without retouching it. Something you wouldn't
expect from Beck. Which is typical Beck! But it's certainly NOT terrible!
i respect Beck even more now!
I didn't even know UA-cam goes back 15 years ago
I like it.
I wonder if the name "Blue Moon" was inspired from this. :)
I actually like both versions- Nick's version is more wistfully sad and clean but Beck's seems to be more emotionally raw, which isn't a bad thing.
If you have downloads to those, I BEG OF YOU, PLEASE SEND ME THE LINKS!!!! I NEEEEED THEM!!!!
nice! was not aware of this! anyone know where its from? album?
well said HexicNexus. Intolerance is intolerance, and bigotry is bigotry. There are equally corrupt and redeeming, noble, virtuous, elements to EVERY single group, religion and spiritual affiliation known to mankind. Thanks for shedding some light on the ignorance.

Un bellissimo omaggio a Nick.
Today they should have a pink moon
Tonight - PST - San Diego, CA - midnight.
Pink? Bring it on!
That's awesome :)
Just like Bod Dylan went and corrected Jimi's version of Watchtower was the way that song was written to be played, so I think Beck makes a mark here on Pink

"none of you stand so tall/pink moon gonna get you all"
What is Pink in the Moon? afterall
@swfcocs1 That happened a while ago, unfortunately.
Let's get a few things straight. Nick Drake was truly great. Beck is also a musical genius. I prefered the "minimalism" on Nick Drake's version, it sounds so lonely, like it wasn't recorded but we're standing right in front of him, listening.
I like Beck and everything, but I don't think there's any artist who could do Drake justice.
i love beck, but nick drakes version is awesome,as are most if not all of his songs
True but how many people got into Nick Drake through Beck's covers?
I'll second that.
Coco
This is a great cover. I still prefer the Damien Jurado cover of this song though. Beck really captures the mood of the song.
At least its beck, fuck trying to find the original these days on UA-cam swamped with nick drake wannabes.
these dickheads smother us with ads and then delete good music..it has become useless.
@theallfaith we got lucky that people took alot of photo's of him so we can draw such comparisons... i think irish comedian tommy tiernan put it best when he said that if jesus is still alive, he's without a doubt in the beegees.
This killed my Disco Fever... -.-'
@ bradshawvincent
this singer hasn't the faintest clue about Drake's Pink Moon.
If you ask me, and if you don't, too.
;(
This is great,Becks voice suits this so well . Check out Mr Drake by Unorfadox on You Tube ,its a fab tribute song without trying to sound like Nick Drake, Just a song for him,Nice !!
wow

Well... that's weird coincidence... Owen was jus sayin something about this... phenomena... and mixed it with Floyd, of course.
I don´t know if its seriously. But I know its Truthfully, because its what I feel.
@Diem66
Agreed. This song would adapt itself so well to Beck's style. Sure, the diehard Drake fans would cry out blasphemy, but I think it's a greater disservice to try to imitate the original; you simply can't improve on a masterpiece by trying to copy it exactly.
No-Man's cover > Nick Drake's original > Beck's cover. though all are noteworthy.
It's a pink moon' pink moon
@canteluna wow well put
@pumazpawz What ever he still topped himself, bad news as he was talented.
💞
2019 ????
epico
Bliss
@DuoSonic87 That's just about the most finest comment I have ever read.
@rhaastaa cant agree more
was nick drake self taught
Holy shit.
It is a metaphor for death
Sped up to 1.25 it sounds closer to the original
this is a cool spin on the song. beck wishes he was drake though.
lol genius
23.04.2024 pink moon…
