  • Pour yourself a favorite beverage, sit back and join me for a ride on British Columbia's spectacular Highway 99. The north half of the Duffey Lake Road, Duffey Lake to Lillooet, the part of Highway 99 that rivals Colorado's famed Million Dollar Highway.

As I sit here drinking my Alberta Premium whisky watching this video, I am transported to country I will never get to see due to age and infirmity. Thank you for your videos; they help me relive my 65 years of long distance touring all over North America.I still have my gorgeous 2003 GL1800 Gold Wing and will never sell it as long as I can continue to ride it - just not the distances I am used to in the past. Old age (80) is not good but for those of you who like me live to ride, enjoy each trip for what is is, and don't use the excuse that you will return one day to see that spot you missed; believe me, you won't. Stop and enjoy it in the moment....thank you Rob

@@RobertMerz No, thank YOU. I truly enjoy these beautiful roads and envy your ability to ride them. I know how much work it is producing them for our benefit as I have a video camera fitted to my Gold Wing and am busy learning Davinci Resolve in order to bring a bit of organization to them for my own viewing. Very difficult to learn but getting there by baby steps....
Keep up the great work...another coffee comin' at you....

How’s your Roadliner holding up? Had a Stratoliner Deluxe that served me great, never burning a drop of oil in nearly 10 years of ownership.

Love your videos! What year was this filmed? We are dying to ride this ride and Banff but the border is still closed.

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  3 роки тому

This was filmed in 2020. If you are planning Canadian National Park rides you will see substantially less traffic in September compared to July and August. The Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper is spectacular. Another great highway to ride is Highway 93 south of Banff to Radium Hot Springs.
Not as spectacular, but a very pretty area to ride in with great highways is the Kootenays in British Columbia. Highway 3, and 3A, all the way from Cranbrook through Osoyoos (and further west); Highway 31A, Kaslo to New Denver is a local favorite; Highway 6, Highway 33 are also great roads.
Highway 99 is all the way out to the coast and as you can see is spectacular! Along the way to 99 try to ride Highway 8, Merritt / Spences Bridge; Highway 1, Hope/Cache Creek; and Highway 12, Lytton/Lillooet.
Of course these rides will probably have to be next year for you due to the border issue, but that will give you lots of time to plan them out.
Hey thank you for the comment. Really nice to hear that you are enjoying my vids, and don't take so long to comment again!

Hi Robert, My name is Rich. I was severely disabled for 17 yrs and unable to ride for many of those years. I did my riding through guys like you. When I could only think about riding, I'd turn on UA-cam and watch ride videos. I must have watched your videos a 100 times and dreamed about riding again myself some day.
2017 brought me a miracle that gave me my life back and in 2018 I was able to live that dream.
I've never left you a comment. Why? I didn't think you'd be interested. I have my own channel now and I know how much it means to me to get comments. So .......
I've watched and appreciated your videos for years. Thanks for all your efforts. You have no idea how your videos have made a difference in people's lives. They have for me. I thought I'd finally tell you. Thanks. Be well

What a great comment! I get quite a few comments each week, almost all of them are appreciated so much. Even the short comments like "Nice" or "Thanks for taking us along for the ride", etc are really important. I also get a few that are criticism, and some of those are just nit picky or sometimes rude, but a good number of those critical comments have also been constructive and I have heeded them to improve my product and therefore they have been greatly appreciated too. Every once in awhile I get comments like yours which are way beyond the usual thank you. To know that I have touched someone and influenced them in such a way really does my heart good. Thank you very much for sharing a bit of your story and this comment with me it is so appreciated.
It is interesting how perspectives change. You said that "you didn't think I would be interested", but now you have a better understanding of what a comment, a thumbs up , etc. means to a creator. It is the equivalent of clapping and cheering at the end of a performance that other artists appreciate and tells them that their efforts were not lost on their audience. And comments are more then that as well, they are a personal gratitude from an identified source, not just anonymous cheering that a thumbs up is. They make a personal connection even if it is fleeting. They also show an appreciative effort from the audience in that the commenter actually took time from their own lives to write a comment to give to you. You didn't think I would be interested, but I spend hundreds of hours every year creating my videos for the enjoyment of others, and you chose to give me some of your time to show your appreciation, yes, I am very interested.
Thank you very much Rich and keep the comments coming, and the videos on your own channel too.

@@RobertMerz It's funny Robert. My perspective has certainly changed since I started doing my own videos. But I watched lots of videos and looked at comments and in many cases I saw that the creator didn't reply. Once I started the channel, I've made it a point to reply to all comments. Now I realize that some creators are so big that they just don't have the time. But I looked at those folks as stars. Stars don't have time for regular people. Now I know that even the stars are just regular guys trying to produce good videos and that while they may be too swamped to answer a comment they probably read and appreciate them none the less. I owed you that comment. You gave me countless hours of your time and effort. It was time to pay the debt. Thanks for everything. It would be my honor to thank you in person some day.

Robert’s videos are best watched on a 72” flatscreen, with your recliner pulled up close, with the subwoofer located under the footrest and the volume loud enough to drown out the world.
