      yeah I didn't realize the peril it puts you in simply using engine braking. I never thought of it after riding for 45 years. It was a DUH moment when someone mentioned it.

      Man I ride rain or shine till it gets under 45, then I'll still ride if it's dry down to about 25 in town, and that's on a ducati scrambler till my wing gets new tires

    Great vid, thanks for posting. It looks like the guy on the K1200 is counterweighting thru the curves. See how his head stays above the centerline in both lefts and rights and he pushes the bike down under himself.

    • @trevb1922
      @trevb1922 7 років тому +1

      have to agree.. he's on a bike above his skill set for sure.. everyone is a critic.. we know that.. LOL, but 100% he's counterweighting etc.. every sharp turn and he doesn't set a single corner up properly.. ( may be unfamiliar with the road though ) diving in on the brakes etc.. hell, the ST was right there and could have/should have just went by him bc they were really too close in some areas.. if the guy likes the naked look/feel.. hop on an old SV 650.. and learn to rip that 387lbls bike around first ( one of my favorite mountain bikes ) ,..before hoping on the 500lb liter+ bike.. too much for him

    I'm looking to test ride one next week. How does she handle? Are you able to compare to an FJR1300 or a V-Strom?

    • @brooksrulz
      @brooksrulz  4 роки тому

      So... I have ridden an FJR1300 and liked it. The FJR I test drove did something weird where every time I would brake hard, the ABS light would come on and I really didn't like that. Maybe it was just the bike, I don't know. But I've never rode a v-strom before. I assume you're referring to the 1000 not the 650. You don't see many v Strom 1000's on the road. Anyways I sold the st1300 and bought a Concours 14. The 14 is faster in a straight line but I'd put it against an st1300 in the mountains any day.

    nice video, quick question from an St 1300 rider to a prospective one. I went today to look at an 05. I am 63 years old and my previous bike was a Honda cb900. do you think the ST would be too heavy for me to handle. I currently have an 09 Suzuki c50t since it is impossible to find some parts for the 900. I prefer the st body style and ride but have a few concerns about the weight. do you feel it when riding it? thanks and I live in Clarksville VA, just above Oxford, nc if you ever head this way and wouldn't mind another rider joining you. been riding since 1983. keep up the good work on the riding and videos.

    • @brooksrulz
      @brooksrulz  5 років тому

      I honestly would forget the weight was even there. Once you got used to it which took no time at all, it was very pleasurable. You won't regret it.

      @bennynash6655 4 роки тому

      @@SteveWKk Loved it, but had to sell it. it was just too tall and too heavy for me to safely handle. My 64 year old legs just couldn't hold it up on my tip toes at every stop. So i am looking for a royal star or a honda valkyrie to replace. lower seat heights. But love the ride and power of it. while i had it.

      @@brooksrulz Mine is a 1200 nightster but the issue for me was the suspension was wayyyy too short for the crap roads where I live. I hit a frost heave and it broke my tail bone. I couldn't ride or sit right for a year +. It was great for bombing around town where they maintained the roads but out in the sticks? not so much.
      I have a 1100 vstar custom now which is generally great, but I think I'm too short, my shoulders cramp up after 30 minutes and my legs are too short for the forward controls. My feet don't rest ON the pegs, they rest against them.
      So now I'm looking for my next and seriously looking at the st.....small enough to enjoy the twistys but also good enough for some longer hauls on the highway.

    • @brooksrulz
      @brooksrulz  Рік тому +1

      @@muskokamike127 yeah the ST is very affordable and will give you much more riding enjoyment than those cruisers ever will.

      And many times so close to the painted center lines at high speed and a very aggressive lean. I've only have done that once but rescued it after my rear tire lost grip and threw my back end out. a Lesson learned.
