I had a friend whose brother was a huge audiophile- he had the best stereo you could get for the time, and he said that the Carpenters were light years ahead of most people in their recording quality.
Actually not that it matters much but she was taking ipecac syrup to induce vomiting towards the end of her life and that damages the heart muscle. Unfortunately and of course she was already in a weekened state from years of anorexia. Very beautiful sensitive soul caught up in the stress of life, family and career, but now she's free smiling and singing forever 💜
I'm 57 and it makes me so happy to see young people reach back and enjoy this music 🎶 Karen and Richard Carpenter wrote the most beautiful songs. When I purchased this album my friends couldn't understand, black people weren't listening to this, but I absolutely loved them.🌹
Most people who've never heard Karen sing before have the same reaction you did. After one line of melody, she captures you! Then Richard's flawless arrangement and their harmonies take you for a ride. A truly unique and incomparable voice.
All these years later and her voice still give me chills like no other. She was the reason as a 6 yr old I started singing. I would listen and practice to Karen all day. Drove my parents crazy. What a perfect voice to learn from. When she died we were all shocked. Never heard of eating disorters until then. In my car is every rock band cd you can think of, and then I have the Carpenters. I will never tire of her voice.
There was a time, when this song had just been released, that it seemed like practically every wedding that took place had this song included in the ceremony. I guess the title "We've Only Just Begun" and also the line, "white lace and promises, a kiss for luck and we're on our way" made this song a huge favorite of brides who were setting out on a journey that they HOPED would last a lifetime. What a tragedy that Karen died so young.
Nice review. Lovely to see your expressions throughout the song. She's a one of a kind singer (and it's easy to see you "get" it.) Richard's contributions are wonderful as well. Please consider "This Masquerade." It's a really beautiful jazz piece.
Miss those days when singers were true artists and did their own thing, didn't care if anyone liked it or not. Karen had a special voice, the day her death was announced was truly sad. So glad I got to grow up listening to the Carpenters
EVEN THOUGH THEIR ENTIRE ACTIVE CAREER WAS ACTUALLY ONLY APRX. 10 yrs. THEY WERE MEGA STARS & IMPACTED THE WORLD! Meteoric Rise from just Hoping to get a Record Deal > to Mega Success in just their 1st year incl. Grammy Award for their 1st SONG. Not A Song from an Album or two > their 1st Record release. OMG! Their Reaction to Accepting the award on TV was 2 SHOCKED Hallmark Kids!
She is the reason I started singing at a very young age. Trying to copy her. Her voice is perfect. A Natural. We were very sad when she died. Such a huge loss.
I was 13 when Close to You came out. I heard it on the radio the first time and remember clearly thinking to myself...Who is this voice? She sounds like an angel. This was long before the internet so it took awhile to put the face with the voice. I remember keeping my transistor radio on all day waiting for that song to rotate back around to the play list. It was our only option back then other than buy the album or buy the 45 record. I was 13 and couldn't afford $2 or 3 for an album, even .59cents for a 45 was tight. 59 cents is like 8 or 9 dollars today. In 1970 a candy bar was just a dime. Today a candy bar is about $1.75 - $2.00 or more.
🌈 This made me indescribably happy…seeing different generations GET it. Karen Carpenter was a huge hero of mine growing up…we share the same birthday, middle name and love of drums…a chick drummer for me to look up to in the 70s…!! 90% of the time I can’t get through their songs without balling my eyes out. Karen had the ability to pull you in with that haunting yet ethereal voice. So grateful she was a part of my tapestry. 💕
I think she is unique because she knows how to hold her notes and emphasize clearly without doing all these silly back flips and voice gymnastics like a show off like a lot of singers do today. She is just a natural talent.
I am so shocked that I found out so late how amazing they are. Karen's voice is one of a kind and I honestly enjoy doing reactions be them to hear that voice. It's such a joy and spiritual sound.
Her brother was also amazing. He did write music and some songs. She didn't want to sing she only wanted to play drums. He dragged her kicking and screaming to the spot light. She used to say she couldn't sing but... Hear that voice. Her brother heard it and knew what she could do.
This beautiful song was my brothers wedding song, when he got married in 1978. What power house of a song. Karen sang with such emotion. What a angelic voice. Sadly she passed away at a young age, from anorexia - bulimia. We are left with the beautiful music she and her brother Richard Carpenter sung. RIP - KAREN.
I have always loved her voice and the Carpenter songs, sad she not with us today, , , BUT , Now there's a 16 year old girl, who won Norway got talent at 8 years old, who has a amazing voice, SHE sang on the VIEW , in America when she was 9 years old, song called "fly me to the moon" , and you should listen to the whole interview , she will tell you how long she has been singing, her name is, ANGELINA JORDAN , if you like, Karen Carpenter, or Whitney Huston , check out Angelina Jordan Song called , fly me to the moon . Awesome singer !!
You will love their video mr postman - filmed at her favorite place - Disneyland. Fun song. Then she was on a lot of shows back in the 70s. She was always so adorable just like Michael Jackson. My favorites still till this day
Listening to Karen Carpenter and knowing how she was attacked by critics for being overweight????? Then I think of Simon Cowell and how he attacked Jennifer Hudson. Why can't people learn.
Thanks, Pres pat - this is one of my favorites - I cannot help being a bit distracted by the guy in foreground going nuts on tambourine - but that's part of the charm - lol -- Richard was the harmony genius -- but you really should see some Karen where she plays drums - her first love - she did NOT want to be a lead singer... but once that voice came to light, she had no choice... this is super-old, but pretty cool! (cover song) -- ua-cam.com/video/vdECtVO-Epo/v-deo.html
She had such a sad time in life but such an angels voice!! You do great justice to the forgotten artists and any others! Thank you for your channel I am new and LOVE IT
Wow. Really? I don't know the full story about Karen's life yet. But, I do know that she has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. :) Thank you and welcome!
That was an outstanding reaction Mr. President. Richard Carpenter has said (and I agree with him) We've Only Just Begun is the song that best encapsulates the Carpenters sound. You're going to love Rainy Days and Mondays. Cheers, RNB
Thank you so much. I am ready to react to Rainy Days and Mondays for sure. I hear a lot of fans of Carpenters talk about that song. So, I will react to it soon. Maybe my next video on them. :)
Over 100 million records sold can’t be wrong, she was magic. The purest voice ever!
Im 61 year old black man. I cry every time I hear her sing . She had a voice of an angel.
I am 70 yrs. old and from the Hollywood MPI & started in Music Recordings / Film Scoring! I still get Impacted by CARPENTERS
🙌
Yes...her voice brings out emotional feelings.
Right there with you buddy!
One of the best voices ever. So pure.
I had a friend whose brother was a huge audiophile- he had the best stereo you could get for the time, and he said that the Carpenters were light years ahead of most people in their recording quality.
I still miss her. Her voice is in another stratosphere! She died of heart failure brought on by anorexia nervosa. So sad and such a huge loss.
Actually not that it matters much but she was taking ipecac syrup to induce vomiting towards the end of her life and that damages the heart muscle. Music is a huge part of my life. But, Karen and Richard. Amazing artist and I am super excited to discover more from them. :)
Karen's voice so Angelic. Folks we had a living Angel among us and she is so sadly missed
This video is from a summer series TV special called "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" from 1971. Karen and Richard were the hosts.
From the time I heard this woman, back in the days, I fell in love with her vocals and the band, too bad she died so young! Her music will lives on!
Just grateful I had a chance to watch her performance in my lifetime. Truly unbelievable voice.
This song was on my wedding video, could listen to her all day 💖
Her voice is absolutely captivating.

I sneak aroubnd t life....and when I want to be at home with life, i listen to Karen
She comes from the generation when people sang rather than today where screaming is in.
Her voice: try incomparably gorgeous, like a vintage Stradivarius cello from 17th century Italy...is that what you were looking for?
She's a drummer. Never wanted to be the front girl

Just one complaint about this song - it's too short. I LOVE Karen's voice.
LOL. Sooo true!!! I agree. :)
Three-octave contralto. This song was used in a bank commercial. Targeting newlyweds.

Thank you so much. I was looking for new music by Carpenters to react to. Thanks. :)
@@awordfrompresidentpat1985 OMG yes! Masquerade is choice Carpenters. Also Rainy Days & Mondays that segues into Goodbye to Love is so gorgeous.

Superstar is one of their best! Needs to be your next.

I can see why. :) They are amazing. Not just the voices but their entire musical arrangements are beautiful.
harmonizing is healing, it heals you, we all feel it, we need more of that in songs
I love to sing harmonies- it’s true, wheelmanstan- they harmonize your entire body.
She is the reason I started singing at a very young age. Trying to copy her. Her voice is perfect. A Natural. We were very sad when she died. Such a huge loss.
Must have listened to this song hundreds of times throughout my life, like therapy.

Hard to narrow it down but you can't go wrong with Rainy Days and Monday's and Goodbye to Love.
Yes! So much more coming soon. :)
I think she is unique because she knows how to hold her notes and emphasize clearly without doing all these silly back flips and voice gymnastics like a show off like a lot of singers do today. She is just a natural talent.
This song was originally a jingle for a bank, Richard Carpenter heard it on the TV and thought it would be a big hit, he was very right.
Karen was one of a kind. You know it's her after the first note.
Karen’s Voice is My Guilty Pleasure
You couldn't attend a wedding in the 70's without hearing this song.
Truth. It was my parents' wedding song. It was literally part of the printed photo album... The lyrics were printed in between the photo pages.
If you want to lose your mind, you should react to “I Can Dream Can’t I”. Her vocal puts you in a dream state.
I'll def check it out!
First class reaction. The back story to Karen is so impossibly sad. But this song is an eternal, timeless beautiful monument to her spirit and soul
I am so shocked that I found out so late how amazing they are. Karen's voice is one of a kind and I honestly enjoy doing reactions be them to hear that voice. It's such a joy and spiritual sound.
Karen was the voice, but Richard was the brains behind this outfit.
You are a youngin and I appreciate your reaction. I'm 48...young to appreciate actually but how anyone not find her voice angelic?
Karen was my first ❤️! I'm a youthful 61 year old, due to listening to the Carpenters all these years! 🤗
@@umbertocalvini7429 absolutely! She is a legend!
Yes!!! When you heard people describe an angelic voice Karen Carpenters comes to my mind. That's all I feel when I hear her sing. What a gift. :)
Her brother was also amazing. He did write music and some songs. She didn't want to sing she only wanted to play drums. He dragged her kicking and screaming to the spot light. She used to say she couldn't sing but... Hear that voice. Her brother heard it and knew what she could do.
Really? So, we should all appreciate Richard even more for pushing her to sing. Because that woman's voice is gorgeous.
The harmonies were Karen and Richard's voices layered
Karen's voice was indeed Heaven sent.
I honestly get lost when I hear her sing. It’s so beautiful. 😍
The Carpenters are incredible! I never get tired of them!
Her voice is haunting and angelic at the same time. You should react to This Masquerade.
ua-cam.com/video/5GChYjK8rIk/v-deo.html
Agreed. I will check out This Masquerade next. I've heard a few people request that so I'm sure it's amazing. :)

Such a sad ending of her life. But, thankfully we have the music to cherish for life. Thank you!
My bride and I are nearing the end of our roads. We met when this song first aired. The lyrics are so relatable.
Since a beautiful song.
Richard was masterful at writing and arranging these songs.

it stated out as a commercial for a local bank
Beautiful and EFFORTLESS! She never oversteps or tries too hard. Gorgeous!❤
Great reaction - Thank you! Karen is how I met my wife. :)
Wow. Really! I can see that because her voice does something to your soul. Best of luck to the both of. :)
Soothing voice, reminds when u a kid, rest u head on moms lap and she lovingly brushes u hair with fingers
look up the song One Tin Soldier
My mom was born in Houston, and is not proud! She says ppl are really prejudiced there, even our family. We no likeee. We're Missourians.
There will never be another voice like hers. Miss you so much Karen! I'm sure you made the choir in heaven!!! RIP. 😢
The Wrecking Crew did a lot of the background instrumentals for them!
I heard her on the radio in 1972. Close to you! I froze and fell in love with her voice! The best!
Yeah, get into it! Doesn't Karen's voice BLOOM within the note? So rich.
You were so fun to watch. They are so good , but she is awesome😊😊😊😊
Her and Barbara two of the purest voices ever ! She sang for the heavens
You will love their video mr postman - filmed at her favorite place - Disneyland.
Fun song. Then she was on a lot of shows back in the 70s. She was always so adorable just like Michael Jackson. My favorites still till this day
Superstar is a must listen by them.
Great wedding song! Karen’s voice is angelic.
It's all about the vocal tone. Karen delivers.
He's a mix of Kevin Hart and Kanye... and he likes the Carpenters.
LOL. I do like the Carpenters. Very much. If you like music for it's true content. Carpenters are a must.
@@awordfrompresidentpat1985 Agreed my man!
Lol!!!
Karen has slayed yet another one with her raw vocal beauty....

My favorite Carpenters song is
"hurting each other".
I'm sure you will like it to.
Welcome. Thank you for request. I will add it to my list now. :)
It's so sad that you can look at her on this and see how the anorexia that eventually killed her was affecting her.
OMG. Is that how she died? I really do not know the story yet. :(.
@@awordfrompresidentpat1985 she was actually recovering from the anorexia from my understanding but the resulting heart issues killed her.
Loved your reaction
I so agree with you!!!!
Hey dude. Where at in Texas. We gotta get a coffee and chat.

You got it. I'm retired so it's easy.

You have to hear Superstar!!!!!
I did. And I was blown away. I have no idea how she was able to sing so beautifully. It's something special for sure.
Just fyi it's Carpenters not The Carpenters
Yes!! I wasn't too sure about that in the beginning. LOL. I went back and forth on which one was correct. Thank you! :)
She had such a sad time in life but such an angels voice!! You do great justice to the forgotten artists and any others! Thank you for your channel I am new and LOVE IT
