Excellent 😂Deanna’s face and reaction to the Folgers & the subsequent “rant” was priceless❤. I’m now wondering about carrying my AeroPress Go with me and some filter coffee😂 Thanks to both of you for a great and unique vlog & for saving me ££, I had high hopes for the Starbucks 😢
Too funny. Hiked the AT last year and frequently walked with a great couple; HappyCampHares. Did some great videos but a particular short video was on coffee. Not saying he was a coffee snob but he enjoyed freshly ground coffee and french press at least twice a day. Those were his comfort items, so he carried a bag of coffee beans, small grinder and french press along with a collapsible cup. I didn't drink much coffee on the trail but for some reason I really enjoyed watching him make a cup. Best of luck out there.
At home I also use fresh ground coffee and a french press about twice a day 😅 I just don't think I could justify the weight, but I'm impressed that he did that!
Coffee addict here. 1. Folgers needs creamer, 2. Nescafe always smells and taste burnt even with creamer. 3. I've been meaning to try, I've heard it's great, 4. Haven't tried😢. 5. Maxwell House is great but runs out quick! 6. Starbucks taste like regular Starbucks to me, I add or get the flavors, 7 & 8. Never tried. I have mixed instant with flavored dry creamer and just scooped from the bag. Dunkin has instant as well.
Honestly … if it’s all you have and you “need” coffee- it will taste good on trail. Cost adds up… love the honest reviews- thank you for keeping it for real. I recently took Nestle (the second one) and after 24 miles it tasted fine 😂
❤😂 Despite being at least a year away from the AT, the hiker coffee reviews are still a high priority for me…😅. P.S. I watched a Miranda episode where she mentioned putting her coffee in her oatmeal. I thought that was a good way to use the instant options to get your fix but stay affordable.
I've been meaning to try Alpine Start since I keep hearing good things about it! But I stick to the hazlenut Nescafe. It's cheap, and I have a deeper appreciation for good coffee when I'm not on the trail.
You should pick friends that can say what they really think to help you decide which coffee to drink If I were ever to attempt it coffee would be my luxury item and aero press or something similar I carry a sea to summit pour over basket in the truck for emergency that works great but I don’t have to carry the waste out good luck
“Dirt doesn’t have caffeine, Deanna.” cracked me up! Thanks for doing this…I usually just get Folgers packets. I think I’m going to get some Trader Joe’s next time I’m there!
I’m too much of a coffee snob. I buy a package of the mini filters on Amazon and bring my favorite grounds and brew pour over coffee. The only down side is carrying out a couple of ounces of grounds. Pour over on an overlook at sunrise. One of my favorite things.
I'm definitely a coffee snob in everyday life! I buy locally roasted, single-origin beans, grind fresh every morning, and make in my french press. I could end up going a different route on trail, but right now I just hate the idea of packing out grounds😅
You girls crack me up! Loved the coffee taste test. Now I gotta go get some Alpine Star’ and give it a try! Yes! You need to sponsor this coffee on your channel…contact them! In 2022 when I was on trail, I got dumped on with heavy rain, made it to a shelter (with 12 others), and we literally ended up staying the night there. I pulled out a packet of Folgers (black) and honesty I could have pulled off a piece of the wooden step and boiled it in water and it wouldn’t have tasted any worse! Good vid!
Trader Joes would be good. I’ve found that most instant coffee is better in the outdoors. You’re one of about 12 hikers I’m following on the internet this year. Happy trails to you!
I'm a big Verve fan, but I've never had their instant coffee. However, they do have larger packs of their instant coffee online, which brings the price down to $1.92. And,.. if you ever make it to Santa Cruz CA, go into one of their shops and ask for a whiskey latte,.. it's delicious.
Awesome video. I almost never drink instant coffee and was wondering which ones to buy for the trail so I bought about 10 different types to try out. I was inspired by Darwin's video and decided to do my own comparison video, except for mine, I am recording one cup each day. :) Also mine will be sad because it will not include your funny ranting/venting friend. :)
Can't wait to see your coffee video and which ends up being your favorite! And yes, she did add something special to this one. I knew I wanted to rope someone in with me. Wish I could have had her husband join too, but he said he charged $100/hr.😂
Death wish for the obvious. But Cusa makes a great Dirty Chai and over the holidays, Peppermint Mocha. Yes, it is pricey, but very good. And you can send the packs back for recycling. I do Cafe Bustelo at school. The kids get scared when I grab the jar.
Saturday, February 17th: Too often on the Trail, the coffee that is consumed is the coffee that is available. IMHO. Best of luck to you! Happy Trails! Ross08
I would get the GSI pour over stand and some paper filters. That should open up a whole world of options at your resupplies. Downs side is you supposed to carry out the grounds; I wonder if you can burry them? Upside it reduces micro waste with the little instant packages. Option two is found (obviously online) and at Asian grocery stores. It’s instant coffee with cream and sugar already in it. They are pretty yummie but would be hard to get on trail.
I briefly thought about the GSI. I just really hated the idea of packing out grounds. I personally don't think I would bury them. And yeah, the trader joe's coffee that had cream and sugar in it was fantastic, but once again hard to get on trail. Ultimately, I'll drink whatever I can find.
Honestly, on trail, any coffee is good coffee. Two packets plus 1 packet vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast equals trail latte. Plus it adds 150 calories
Does your friend hike? Because you’d be a dynamic duo!! I will say even the most undrinkable instant coffee tastes good on trail after a while 😂. I was sent two samples of Salto blend and it is by far the best I’ve tasted! It is really pricey though, so I haven’t purchased any yet.
I think she's more of a day hike/glamping person than backpacking, so unfortunately, I wouldn't expect to see her in any trail videos 😂 but it certainly would be entertaining. I will have to check that blend out some time!
Bwahahaha..."Watery, hot dirt." LOL. Enjoyed the reviews.
Your friend should hike with you. It would be a hoot!
It would definitely be entertaining! I'm not sure she would enjoy it though😅
Great idea for a vlog!!! Very helpful!

ROFL when Deanna taste that Maxwell house mix! Wonder how she really felt about the taste. 🤭

Thanks for doing this. It's one of my toughest decisions for my section hike😊
Arguably the most important item in your pack!😜
@@RissaRoams I like the way you think!!!

“dirt does not have caffeine” 🤣❤️
This was so fun!

Alpine Start is definitely worth trying!
Going to have to try some of the REI coffee!
Yes, Alpine Start is so good! I got it at REI, but you can also buy it on Amazon or the Alpine Start website!
You should pick friends that can say what they really think to help you decide which coffee to drink

@@RissaRoams Got some! It is indeed good…I may add a package of Folgers to it just to stretch it farther!
Alpine Start is my personal favorite!
So good!!
a fun video......lots of choices....I like Death Wish Coffee.....they make an instant coffee.....not cheap but great tasting

Coffee is a must have for many people on trail, just be ready to dig the cathole BEFORE taking a sip 😂

Boy that sounds
yummy !
Would love to check out their shop one day!
I just had a brew from the Mocha pot for my daily caffeine hit. On trail I'd go black instant and get the better stuff in towns.
So I am thinking the Folgers sponsorship probably isn't going to happen at this point. Oh well. . .
Yeah, I think Deanna kinda ruined that one for me. Haha!

Oh 100% I will take whatever I can find, but enjoyed the experience of seeing what I would prefer!

Coffee grounds can go in compost so I wonder if dumping in a cathole would be detrimental. Smell could attract animals tho.

Yes, definitely will be adding carnation instant breakfast! And I'll take whatever I can find, but it was fun seeing what my preferences are!
What a cool video about coffee

Mount Hagen all the way.
