If you love inking, you should definitely try using fountain or dip pens! They can feel different to using ballpens/felt tips, but when you get used to it, you won't be able to go back!! I'm a fountain pen addict and love drawing using them.
You guys should draw each other as Pokemon. Not trainers but actual Pokémon - based on your personalities, imagine what types and colours you would be :D Love your videos!
I usually draw in my sketchbook when I watch Doodle Date, but now I can't. Y'know why? I just accidentally spilled all the water in my water bottle on my sketchbook when I went to grab it. I just felt like I needed to share that. Cool video, as always.
The white ink is most likely a thick white gouache. If you separate a small bit and add water to it, it will flow in the pens a bit better. Alternatively, using a small paint brush with the watered down white ink is another way of using it. Also, the tips of the dip pens are usually covered in a chemical to keep the tips safe for packaging, if I remember correctly, one can use a lighter for a second or two on the tips to have it burn off and have the ink flow more freely, if so desired.
there are nibs that have a small ink-storage on top, it looks like a small metal leave or a backwards curved feather. these nibs hold a lot of ink and you don't have to dip them often. I got a lot of them
I bough the same ink (n°3), pen holder and nibs a few days ago! I loved them and I feel like some were indeed more 'needy' with ink than others, if that makes sense. I also prefer when I don't have to dip too often. The ink was great though, I got number 3, totally smudge free and waterproof!!
4:35 Steph: What's this one's name? Adam: What does it look like, my honey? SO CUTE AND SWEET! ❤️ Watching you guys make me think of my boyfriend. We're in a LDR, and we love to draw together whenever we meet. LOVE WATCHING YOU GUYS!
Yes yes yes, I love manga!!! (I'm working on making my own) I believe the G-pen is the most commen and recomended for drawing manga. I would love to see you guys do more with these tools! Maybe you could try your hand at recreating some popular characters ;D
you guys are freaking adorable. love your doodle dates and honestly love the mystery boxes you guys have done as well. great way to get random character ideas going
Dear Adam and Stephanie: I know for fact that one of the differences with the Deleter Inks is that the black "number 6" ink is compatible with Copic markers- as in, once it's dry, it won't smear the colours.
Steph- I loved your sketch! Also Adams. Please do more with these- they're really neat. I have a single cheapie my friend gave me that I'm inspired to try now.
Right of the bat Steph's smile in the thumbnail made me all happy and excited for the video! I really enjoy everysingle minute of happiness your videos bring :)
its strange how i dont even do art and yet am so entranced by your videos!!! i just really love how genuine and lovely and kind the both of you are!! so grateful you guys choose to share your little art adventures with us! :)))) sending lots of hugs from sunny singapore!!!
Try the blue pumpkin nib. It's popular for a reason, it's quite pretty and holds ink well. The line variations it gives is nice too. I only ink with dip pens now, its so fun! Makes me feel fancy haha.
Although I was not the one holding the bottle of ink, I was worried someone would come in and startle me and cause the ink to spill! Love seeing Adam get more into inking!
I was having a bad day today but then DOODLE DATE uploaded something related to MANGA My two favourite things in one video.... I couldn't be happier :D
Pls do a different MANGA inks video, I'm writing a comic and really want to know how well they work That and I love you guys and would have fun watching!! ありがとうございます!!!
+Doodle Date I would love to see yall in a D&D campaign! You both are so creative and have such cute character designs and ideas I think youd both really enjoy it.
Hello Doodle Date! Just so you know, one reason you may be having trouble with the new pen nibs is that you need to take off the oil they put on the nibs to prevent them from rusting in the package. To do this, I take a lighter and fan it over the flame about three times and then immediately dip it in ink to temper it. This will also show you if you did it long enough as it will pick up the ink properly. Also, shake the ink. Sumi ink especially is like a powder and needs to be mixed. Sometimes toothpicks work as well to mix it. I hope this helps!
One tip that I read is to hold a lighter to new nibs for a bit to break it in, it works really well for me! Just be careful you don't char it. I've only ever used liquid-y Japanese and Chinese ink like in the set, I thought all inks were like that.
I love both your characters! I am so scared I am going to spill my ink bottles all over my desk! To avoid certain spillage I make a little ink holder with a thick kitchen sponge. The kind with the green scrubby on one side. I take the soft side of the sponge, trace the bottle bottom onto the sponge, then cut out the circle 2/3 way down the sponge. Then you slip the bottle down into the little hole you carved out. It makes a nice base and if I accidentally bump it it doesn't tip over. I also use the sponge left surrounding the bottle to wipe any excess ink from my nib.
I prefer doing it in one sitting but there are certain very time intensive pieces that just don't allow that kind of thing (the longest one was like 20-24+ hours of inking and I started it during the week) but it still takes a while to get back into that rhythm. Fountain pens are relatively rigid, steno nibs are more flexible but also aren't made anymore. The No 141 EF from brause (iserlohn) and similar ones aren't scratchy and can easily last a minute or two (If you're not making very broad strokes) so maybe they would be worth looking for for Adam. Steph, I'd recommend you a crow quill pen, it's tiny, scratchy and has a huge line variation to the point where it can be used to imitate brush lines but it's easier to control.
I've never used fountain or dip pens before. This video made me want to try them out. Thank goodness it's payday! I see a trip to the art supply store in my near future lol!
If you use the back of the fountain pen it gives you a similar effect and feel to a dip pen, for line variation you can use it on it's side and sort of tilt it around slightly. Idk experiment
In general Maru Pens are used for details and (at least I think so) they feel like pencil, Saji Pen are used for thick lines e.g. they are often used for drawin Panels in Manga and Comics. The G-Pen has the most variation so you can go from thin to thick lines immediately, and they are commonly used from every Shonen Mangaka r.g. Eiichiro Oda, Akira Toriyama etc.
I have the same inking tools and I just use the white stuff with a small brush! Though I find using a gelly roll to clean up does a better job.. I have the white and black ink 2 instead of 1 (:
I'm totally the same way about scratching sounds! I recently became a licensed Microblader and when you're cutting into people it's a super scratchy sound, and it made me nauseous for the first few people. It's all good now though 😂
Inkredible
*inking intensifies*
Doodle Date lol I love inking sadly I only have my school pen 😂😂
Alpaci plays stuff This is such a beautiful comment
Alpaci plays stuff please no just no😂😂😂😂 😹

Inkie trauma
Adam runs away as he hears the Strachey pens of Steph and she screams in terror in fear the ink will go on "our lovely white bed sheets"
I love when steph draws people. They're always so cute!!!
Thank you so much!!
Doodle Date thank you for blessing my eyeballs
Dear Adam and Stephanie: I know for fact that one of the differences with the Deleter Inks is that the black "number 6" ink is compatible with Copic markers- as in, once it's dry, it won't smear the colours.
I love the drawings they are so cool, and I also like how you have a poll every video, they're really fun and it makes it more interactive
You guys kept me sane in thailand. Watching your videos made me feel less home sick! Thanks guys
I was instructed to put my new nibs in boiling water for a few seconds before first use, to get the coating off that they put on in the factory.
Steph- I loved your sketch! Also Adams. Please do more with these- they're really neat. I have a single cheapie my friend gave me that I'm inspired to try now.
COME MY BRETHREN TO THE DOODLE DATE!!
Ran Dom HEYY
LET US RIDE
TO THE SKETCHBOOKS!
Both the characters look like little sprites you'd see in some kind of fantasy RPG; they're so cute!
Yes! Please do more of these, I really enjoyed watching it!
Yay a new video!!! IM SO EXCITED 😬😬 The best way to spend a Friday night is to watch a doodle date video. Ahhhhh so relaxing 😃👌
Also, forgot to mention that you need to dip the ink JUST beyond the hole (which is the well) which should solve the running dry issue.
Oh I love scratchy noises! Especially the sound of someone writing with a pencil :D
Ahhh I think these two ladies might be some of my favourite doodle date drawings! Mage lady is so cute!!
Right of the bat Steph's smile in the thumbnail made me all happy and excited for the video! I really enjoy everysingle minute of happiness your videos bring :)

I recommend the G-Pen and the Maji pen

Although I was not the one holding the bottle of ink, I was worried someone would come in and startle me and cause the ink to spill! Love seeing Adam get more into inking!
Who else liked the video before even watching because they already know it will be *AWSOME*
SWEETEST
PANDA
EVER
i'm so glad that i managed to watch a doodle date at a reasonable time
I was having a bad day today but then DOODLE DATE uploaded something related to MANGA
My two favourite things in one video.... I couldn't be happier :D
Love your characters...you already have mad inking skillz!
Love using dip pens and I would love to see you do more! Also testing different nibs and inks.❤️
Glass pens are really good for not having to reink often. But there isn’t much line variation from my short time of experience.
For the white ink, maybe try and mix a bit of water into the thick paste! It will make it inky and fluid... so it can flow!
I'd love to see a video on different inks! That seems so interesting!
Pls do a different MANGA inks video, I'm writing a comic and really want to know how well they work
That and I love you guys and would have fun watching!!
ありがとうございます!!!
just came back from school and this made me so happy!
+Doodle Date I would love to see yall in a D&D campaign! You both are so creative and have such cute character designs and ideas I think youd both really enjoy it.
Gouache mythical creatures!! Sirens and unicorns!!
Mariano GUOACHE :D

I am currently waiting for the manga dip pen set to arrive so im super excited to see what you guys will do with similar stuff! AAAh
I came back from school and ready to watch you guys 💖💖💖
All my favourite things in this video 😱😍
Really liked the video! Adam's drawing was so pretty and Steph's was adorable!

I don't know how I coped with only one video a week from you guys
Haha youre so sweet Ingeborg!
We're so happy you are along for the ride with us! :D
I love both your characters! I am so scared I am going to spill my ink bottles all over my desk! To avoid certain spillage I make a little ink holder with a thick kitchen sponge. Steph's Mage would definitely be a food mage! I can imagine her summoning a medieval apple pie
I prefer doing it in one sitting but there are certain very time intensive pieces that just don't allow that kind of thing (the longest one was like 20-24+ hours of inking and I started it during the week) but it still takes a while to get back into that rhythm.

Hey can you do something animal crossing themed!!!!!!!
Pleaseeee
I think we probably would if they make a Switch game!
WE WANT ONE ALREADY
+Doodle Date YEEEEEEEAHHHH HOPEFULLY!!!!!!
+Doodle Date thank you!!!!!

Use glass dip pens you can write a full A5 sheet in one dip they are sooo good !
I would love a video of you guys teaching us about inking with dip pens! Or inking in general, because I can't ink at all! ':D
I'm always so nervous for your bedsheets in the ink videos!! :O
I love my deleter g pen. Deleter ink 4 and 6 are awesome. I use it for all my fine lining.

I've never used fountain or dip pens before. This video made me want to try them out. Thank goodness it's payday! I see a trip to the art supply store in my near future lol!
You guys are so amazing together!!!!! I wish I had my own Adam lol
I might have to steal some of my hubby's dip pens and see if I like inking with these :D
I have a dip pen and I really like it. It’s also very relaxing to use! I just don’t like that most inks aren’t waterproof. :(
so hyped up 😊 I just got mine yesterday . Trying them out is fun but the ink is everywhere ^^ I need to more be careful with smudges.
Lol you were pronouncing saji correctly but you butchered maru 😂😂 its pronounced MAH-ROO, slightly rolling the r
TH-THE MORE YOU KNOW
If you use the back of the fountain pen it gives you a similar effect and feel to a dip pen, for line variation you can use it on it's side and sort of tilt it around slightly. Idk experiment
The scratchy sound reminds me of Bob Ross making sticks. Love it
I just got a dip pen the other day and i was looking for videos with them! Thanks for this!

Steph, could you do a stamping video next? It was one of your hobbies you had talked about a while back that I was curious about!
Your videos are awesome as always! Thank you for lighting up my days. I'm always in ahold mood after watching you ^-^
I've been watching a lot of your guys videos.... I should stop and finish my inktober drawings-!!!
I really want to see them to do a style swap between them. I think it would be very fun.
A thought: Brindle and Bumble as people as Steph and Adam as guinea pigs?? Maybe it would make a cute episode!
This is a wonderful thing to come home from school to
Welcome home!!
I have the same inking tools and I just use the white stuff with a small brush! Though I find using a gelly roll to clean up does a better job.. I have the white and black ink 2 instead of 1 (:
This is how I show my dedication im in class watching this
I like the sound of nails on a chalkboard:)
Amazing! Now I find something to my drawing lessons. Yei!
I love the saji nib the best! The maru nib is a close second
I love both your styles of drawing & how good you 2 are together keep it up :) x

With the white one a brush is the best( personally) As usual love love your vids!
I'd love to see the different inks!
I recently bought the Deleter paper..so great for alcohol markers
I'm totally the same way about scratching sounds! I recently became a licensed Microblader and when you're cutting into people it's a super scratchy sound, and it made me nauseous for the first few people. It's all good now though 😂
I would love to see that ink video as I'm thinking about getting into inks
