Dude - I’ve learned a lot from some of these other channels like Sparky channel, Electrician U, etc. but your video was THEE ONKY one that was the best explanation on the star and how to bend it correctly. You took the time to explain it the best and it made sense for a total beginner like myself. Just wanted to thank you for helping me have a successful night in the shop and I really appreciate how well you explained it. Keep on keeping on 🤘🏼👍🏼💪🏻🤙🏻👊🏻
Back in the olden days, I almost bought an exhaust tube bender. It came with a set of cards that would give you diameter, length of pipe and degrees of each bend. You'd take a straight piece, cut it to length and then make markings where each bend would go. You'd clamp a protractor on the end closest to you and start feeding the pipe in to the first mark and make your bend the required degrees. Then, you'd unclamp the pipe, feed it in to the next mark and then rotate it the degrees as given on the card. Then, unclamp and feed in to the 3rd mark, rotating again the degrees indicated on the card and bend it the required degrees. What would come out the end is a zig-zag that "usually" fit perfectly. Adding y's were a bit tougher as two pieces, separately bent had to be welded PROPERLY and at the right angle.
Mr. Mountaineer, Thank you so much. The star technique is exactly what I needed to create a rectangular "hoop"for a construction. With your guidance, I nailed it!! On the money! I think the star technique is something that is relevant to a lot of DIY people and might be a good subject to concentrate on for another video instead of mentioning it at the end. I mean, what's a "back bender" to a novice?? Thanks again.
If I'm gonna make a 45° bend on 1/2" EMT and my sharpie mark is lined up with the⭐. The bender hast a 45° line on the head and I'm pulling the pipe down. What part of the piece of EMT do you stop at? The top of the pipe, bottom or center for the correct angle? 🔌
Great stuff, man. I always look forward to your videos and appreciate the time you spend doing them. I'm new to electrical work and am trying to learn all I can.
I'm going to start making my 90 bends with the star.. it looks alot easier and less thinking to do it this way.. make your measurement and turn the bender backwards and place the conduit mark on the star and bend your 90.. simple..
If you want to put a short 90° on a long stick of pipe (90% of your 90°s) it's less ideal to use the star because you have to bend the full 10ft up into the air. The back of the bend method is ideal for making the last 90° on a stick of pipe with multiple bends.
Hey im a journeymen ressi just got a new job in commercial never bent much pipe before how do you do back to back box offsets without getting t them back wards any trick to go from one box offset to the next box

Congrats bud. Good trade to be in. People aren't ever gonna quit needing sparkies. Been doing it for 7 years gonna test out pretty soon. Total scab here no shame in it either union ain't for me. Seen my boss make damn near a million dollars off of 4 guys working year round. I'd take a quarter mil scratching my nutts lmao.
Wow I think that is a great thing. I usually don't get off by far at all. If I do it's definitely because I didn't line it up correctly. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
That's right you can always take it off, but you cannot put it back on once it's gone (well with a coupling I guess you can) I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Now would that be a #2 pencil or a lumber pencil??? Mechanical pencil or perhaps the dreaded colored pencil….. smh now I’m all cornfused I might have to go to my local n swear in just to get this top notch knowledge
@@anthonytorres9469 Here’s the IBEW holy grail. I’ll prob have to change my name and go into hiding after this but, marker with disappearing ink. You’re welcome.

That's cool my buddy installs exhaust and he's good at it too. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺

I agree but using a star is not always a good idea. It does have its place but not everytime
Pretty cool! All the years of experience...you make it look so easy.
It has taken me a long time to get it right.
I've used the star a lot when I have an offset with a 90 in the same run or back to back 90's.
my goodness you just show me a tip that will save me time I've always done it by doing the math doing take up thanks
My pleasure glad this helped you.

I don't mind using a Sharpie, the conduit usually gets painted anyways or hidden by sheetrock.
I agree... There are times though when it won't. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
that 16th could just be from being on the wrong edge of the sharpie line right?
True could have.

I have a video coming out soon on this. Stay tuned.
Use couplings

😂 😂 😂 Truth
Where you short because you didn’t add shrinkage? Or is that nor required when you use the star?
No when you use the star it's supposed to be spot on. Probably did have it exactly on the right spot
Simple explanation. Thank you so much!
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Always great info from you. Giving away free tips too. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. Yeah trying to make it easier on people so they don't have to struggle like I did
I’m well on my way to being a master electrician

How do you do a “ Kick”?

A 90 using the arrow is super easy on offsets the STAR is used for me 40 years in the business hello...
Exactly
What happens if you use the star the other way?
It would come up short.
@@MountaineerOutdoorshappened to me today on a back to back 90 😹
16th of an inch? Sounds like it could be the width of your marker line. Still acceptable bend either way
I do the same tip mark ! But I put a X .. thanks brother
Nice. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
Thank you, I was a little confused about this haha, it really help
Can I bend a 45 this way?
Yep it will work but you may need a protractor or just know the take up on everything trial and error.
Forget learning the Star. I need to learn the sound you made at 03:59!
😂 😂 😂 😂
Every time I bend a 90 with the star it comes out a bit short. And I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Pls..Some one help me!
How much are you off?? It should definitely be right on the money
Shrinkage
How about the deduct on the bender? Do you take that in to account when using the star?
No the star takes all the math out of it.
Is anyone having problems with the kleine bender? I made three star bends today that was off dramatically.
Not me
Wunderbar!!!
Why do people use the other technique with math if you don’t necessarily need to?
Sometimes you have to... But I do agree
You should know both methods. Depending on the bends you might be stuck having the shoe forced to face the other direction.
I really appreciate your content 👍🙏😎
Definitely my pleasure
40 years of commercial / industrial and i have found the star to be inaccurate and rarely use it
