I'd like to pute a 1275 litre ibc tank right next to the house like you. I have a basement, and concerned that the weight can damage basement walls, due to the weight? Do I need to install concrete pieres to help with the weight, and that the weight would sit lower in the ground? I have gravel at the side of the house, which is where I'm thinking of installing it.

What size cam lock did you use?
    2” or 1/12”?

How many beds can you water with one tote?

FYI: The flow of water is only as fast as the smaller diameter of pipe with in the system.

Afternoon! You have a great setup with your home Garden and this water system. I don't mean to put a damper on the spirit of things, but I have a legitimate question. I've seen the number of these rainwater collection system setups and no one seems to be addressing the fact that this water is being collected after running off of asphalt. I'm not so much concerned about what falls on the roof, bird poop Etc, but I'm more concerned about the material itself is widely known to be toxic. I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts on this topic. I know you're not consuming it directly but you are using it to water your plants which you then consume.

This is a legit question especially considering I used to have a farm in Middle TN and my water came from a year-round spring that turned into a seasonal drip that turned out to be runoff from the side of my mountain. I had the water analyzed and was told that it contained a "super conglomeration of heavy metals." 😐 After many years of detoxing my body of heavy metals, I was very leary when we were about to start collecting rainwater off of an asphalt roof. Our roof is approximately 11 years old so I would hope that any contaminants have been washed off by now, but I found the following article which I found helpful.
"A Green Light for Using Rain Barrel Water on Garden Edibles - Sightline Institute" www.sightline.org/2015/01/07/a-green-light-for-using-rain-barrel-water-on-garden-edibles/

I am perplexed. If I understand this correctly, you have a 20 oz water bottle that, when the three first flushes fill up, BLOCKS any water minus debris from going back up and into the storage tanks? Doesn't this then allow all the new rainwater - along with its contaminants and debris - to bypass the first flush and flow directly into the tanks??? Please help me to understand this. 🤷🤔🤨

The first 10 minutes of runoff is supposedly the most contaminated. After that, it's pretty clean.

Good way to clean the totes is to take them to a do it yourself car wash and pressure wash and rinse them.
