    Mr Murray was a smart man of the times. He was a man of many hats. He could almost do everything in the early days to make a living. A very remarkable Pioneer.

    The lady explaining the mill was very knowledgeable. She knew alot about everything. This is something that I have never seen before. I never knew the process and did not know it was this complicated. Enjoyed this video. Thanks again for providing this type of content, interesting.

    This family seems to be working hard and battling the system to keep their family business in order. In these times, it would be a huge asset to a community to have a way to grind corn and wheat.I hope they’re successful in getting the things they need and the revenue from visitors to keep their spirits up.

      There is Leyman's in Ohio olde time "machines". They may have grinders and Deep South Homestead gets into that kind of machinery, may have vids.

      About 10 years ago they held a yearly event in the field across the creek from the mill. It used to consist of a reenactment of a battle in the civil war. Many other things like school clubs (not affiliated with the civil war) and beekeepers from 2 counties would have demonstrations and hands on learning projects set up. And you guessed it plenty of FOOD!
      Obviously with the changing of the times, not so sure about that yearly event now. That would have been a big blow to have lost the entire event. People came from miles around, but it was a community event as well.

      This was the Bible Belt. If the women found out about it, they'd have burnt the Mill to the ground. YOU can believe that.... This is the heartland of M.A.D.D. and D.A.M.M.....

    Wow! Another great video! Sooo informative! Yeah! OSHA....... safety in those days was more about common sense. I bet when they did have accidents they were very severe. That lady definitely knows the intimate details of the works and the WHY. Very good tour! It's amazing how similar much of today's equipment uses those same designs. Bucket elevators, classifier screens, crushers, gravity feed chutes, etc. Thank you for sharing another gem from history!

    I would say after all these years that dam is mighty shallow. Silt and mud most likely almost to the top.
    Further down Ball's Creek is a completely flooded out Gold mine, just a huge pond of sorts now. They struck water. We have some major underground rivers running under solid rock in this area. My well is 90' deep to a 10' slab of rock and unlimited water supply. Luckily I think the miners actually left the mine for the day and came back and it was flooded overnite... God was looking out for them, for sure....
    They used to have a yearly community gathering across the creek from the mill. Things like the Beekeepers Association of Catawba and Iredell represented. Many other activities and school clubs entertained folk, and they were greeted with plenty of food, song and dance.... Not sure about that event now.

    The " explosive" threat with wheat dust. I heard a threat, like this can be found in sugar mills

    • @kramnull8962
      @kramnull8962 Рік тому

      Flour mills was the worst. The Flour Mill in Statesville, NC; which is a manufacturing facility, has had many of explosions.
      We have a manufacture that grinds wood and bags mulch. They have huge flash fires there as well.
      These old mills even this one wasn't as well built way back, like it is now. The wind blew right through them. Weatherboard and old nails allow for gaps over the years. Most never finished the inside walls. The windows though "solid" actually needed to be removed and caulked every 5 years at least. Wind would just go around the panes eventually.
