    Christian is a natural birding teacher! The thing about looking until you find the bird is exactly what my teacher taught me. By the time you do find it, you've heard the song so many times that you have it memorized. Hooded Warbler!!
    And having the Merlin app "listen" for you is no substitute. I do listen to recordings every spring to remind myself of all the different "languages". But on bird walks I want to Know, Myself, what birds I hear. "Bird watching" is actually about 50% "bird listening".
    And what a good, strong person Christian is. We're lucky to know of him. Good birding and many adventures, Christian!

    As the mother of an ornithologist, and someone who cares about the birds & the bees and the flowers and the trees, and all our fellow creatures who share this beautiful blue planet of ours, I’m really glad to see more folks interested in birding. Last night as I happened to catch a documentary on PBS on the life of Rachel Carson, I was reminded anew of the impact one person can have for our fellow creatures, both human and fauna. Looking forward to reading Christian Cooper’s book. 👍 ❤

    In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, I was trying to teach my kids how racism looks in The US.
    Then this happened.
    It is the epitome of the abuse of whiteness.
    We listened and reflected on how that call to 911 would have sounded like Amy was truly being attacked.

    I love to have fun with bird calls. I play classical flute and piano and can recognize musical patterns. I listen to one bird at a time and learn the patterns note for note. They definitely respond. Raptors are not technically birds, but crows seem to respond to their specific vocal pattern more efficiently. It is obvious they have facial recognition. They will return repeatedly for conversations and interaction. Cheetos are our currency.

    • @silva7493
      @silva7493 Рік тому +4

      I love your comment. You said "Raptors are not technically birds", and while not all birds are raptors, I believe all raptors are indeed birds, another name for "raptors" is "birds of prey". I've always had more affinity for corvids than many other people. It's hard not to have respect for so much intelligence. I've enjoyed following a lady's youtube channel who raises and keeps raptors in Scotland (I think), and she also raised a pet raven, who's a very adorable, sweet bird, and a lot of fun to watch. The channel is called; Falconry and Me.

Top notch journalism. We don't need full context. Just give this man a show! Such bravery to threaten a woman and her dog in the park. It sounds understandable that Christian didn't want to feel like he was piling on...but nothing says consequences like 30 days in jail (at least) or more, for filing a false police report, and whatever other charges could have been brought against that woman.
