The gates he's dancing in front of towards the end are actually an existing work of art that are supposed to be the gates of Hell. Since its Taemin I'm not even a little bit surprised.
Yup, the Gates of Hell by Rodin, illustrating the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. Having studied Rodin's work for like 6 months in my art history class, it was actually funny and interesting to see Taemin dance in front of it, I really wasn't expecting it haha
Yes, because Taemin is SATAN. The snakes, the eclipse, the lyrics, he's trying to portray the most beautiful of God's Angels: Lucifer, who fell and then tempted humans to sin. I have been telling ppl for years that Taemin is exactly what I think the Devil would look like, beautiful, gentle but then, there is a sudden look that stops your breath. And yeah, he can have my soul...in fact, I would willingly collect souls on his behalf.
majideuzai22 I think he is not Satan, he is seducing Satan to be purified “be innocent” with him. Because at the beginning we see him, he represents the Man, the Vitruvius Man (L. Da Vinci). In fact he is so Satan proof that those snakes melted finally and became belts to his fancy pants...:)
Michael Jackson comparisons are very relevant, but not only musically and in terms of choreography. But also in that universally accepted vision of coolness which made Michael so popular around the world. An effortless coolness, and a powerful sexuality. A sexuality that is neither “masculine” or “feminine”.. it’s just human. Taemin has that appeal and it’s fucking amazing.
Taemin said that through this song he wants from us to WANT him, he wants to seduce us through mv, lyrics, etc.. the whole thing is full with sin, we have snakes, dark colors, smoke, red color it like the red apple from Bible, and at the end we have that art piece that is like the gate of hell.. so i guess its something like this, he us our sin he is bad but we wants him no matter what Sorry for my bad english, but i felt this song like this c: This is my favorite mv from Taemin
After watching this MV about a hundred times, I'm getting more and more certain that Taemin is trying to portray himself as the snake that tempted Eve. Temptation is clearly a huge theme throughout the MV and the lyrics, and looking at all his shots with the snake as well as his movements in the choreography (particularly in that first choreo shot with him body waving away), it seems like Taemin himself is a snake and Eve is the audience that he is trying to seduce with his music. One cool thing I also noticed is that those black snakes looked like they were transformed from film rolls, which kind of implies that the media (such as this MV) is his tool of seduction.
This song is incredibly dark and sexy and it's amazing that Taemin really just went and topped Move like that. I agree with you, this song was immediately my favorite after a first listen
This song was hypnotic and very seductive, and unlike anything ever done within kpop. The lyrics, the melody, bass the choreography even to the outfits everything was just very subtle yet very much in your face. I think there was an instant shock when I first heard the song and the MV just made the experience more fulfilling. My point taemin got us all shook, snatched our wigs and issa legend. Stan and stream.
@@verastrobel5251 yassss please, I mean SM really is doing something right letting taemin explore this side of him😏 I have yet got to understand how this song makes me feel, but it sure as hell makes me want to pick up my pen and write again📝
I agree with the satanic/cultist theme in this. I said to someone after I first watched it that Taemin is a demon or Satan out here seducing us all lol. Do we all mind? No, we already sold our souls to Taemin long ago lol.
I commented on the MV about this too but I think from reading the lyrics the concept is that Taemin himself is "want". He is the personification of temptation and desire, much like the devil in the form of a snake in the story of Adam and Eve in the bible; which is why I think they used that kind of imagery. Overall this mv was stunning and the symbolism was the icing on the cake. Once again Taemin has shattered everyones expectations which such a work of art that is "Want".
Taemin's a big fan of horror imagery, so I love that this video kinda has some creepy elements of that, while still appealing to a more direct "sexy" feel. And I think you're spot on with the whole sinister feel, as it totally touches on the darker side of devotion. Annnnd those doors at the end is the sculpture by French sculptor Auguste Rodin called the Gates of Hell, so there's definitely the connotations you mentioned here.
The first time I saw the MV and heard the song, I honestly saw Taemin as being the snake in the garden of Eden. The way he dances (he seems to kind of slither like a snake a some parts), mixed with the snake imagery and the lyrics talking about leaving someone wanting more (representing the thirst for knowledge and maybe even sin).
THANK YOU. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that thought of Fullmetal Alchemist as soon as I saw the gate! Taemin has this unique style that's his own mix of temptation and danger. This video is straight up 'Give in to your desires, I'll make sure you have a good time but in exchange, your soul is mine.' He doesn't even need to trick you, it's obvious what's gonna happen but you'd go through with it anyway 🤣 I think you're spot on with him being Lucifer. There's mentions of the sweetness of an apple and how you'll end up wanting more and more of him. I also get this sense of voyeurism with the magnifying glasses and the theatre stage-like scenes. So it's like the entire video is that he has such a hold on your attention, that you don't notice him leading you through temptation and in the end he's led you to the Gates of Hell (that's an image of a sculpture in Paris of the same name).
Well.....Taemin did say that the song is basically about him trying to put a spell on us. So yeah that seems to be the goal of of most pop artists to me but Taem is just very up front with it hahaha. Im already a member of the #Taemtation cult. Joined late 2012 and the membership bonuses are 👌

Yes, Taemin represents Temptation here, using religious and philosophical iconography. Thank you, PD, I'm revisiting this reaction today 🪷 It's 2024 and all is well.
I love this song - everything about it is just amazing and totally addicting! But the MV with it's symbolism, aesthetics, spectacular cinematography and Taemin dancing like no one else can makes listening to it 10x better! I have to say there's no other artist as perfect and haunting like Lee Taemin - his physical beauty is unmatched! I can only imagine what a pleasure for MV directors it must be to film his perfect, full of expression face from every possible angle, not to even mention his perfectly proportioned body and his stunningly captivating, fluid yet super powerful moves. And don't even make me start on his talent!!! Although I love Move and it will always be a very special song to me, but I think Want topped it with it's concept. One way or the other both these songs are amazing. As for Taemin he is one in a million - great and unique artist that no one even comes close to...
Taemin is not just a talented singer/dancer/performer, he's grown into an amazing "artist" !! And that sets him apart from the other Kpop folks out there, because he has managed to redefine and create his own personal image, style, sound which is totally him. I dont think I've seen the direction editing and choreography work so well to bring the build up of intensity so perfectly together. And yes he is an angel
Taemin is SINGULAR in KPOP. He is not taking the easy road... but he is in a lane that he has paved on his own. When I watched this video it reminded me of the first time I saw MJ (I realise that NOW is probably NOT the best time to mention him given the most recent revival of his ongoing scandal... sigh.)... I was like 5? or 6? I saw "Do You Remember the Time" and I'd never been so glued to my TV. Taemin is just so magnetic. Like a snake with a hypnotic gaze. Whether you are gay, straight, or whatever else in between - you are a LIAR if he doesn't... do it for yah.
I follow a lot of groups in the Korean music industry and I genuinely believe that taemin’s artistic sense is unparalleled. I’m really hoping that people outside of Korea will recognize and acknowledge his talent (not hat he needs it) but he deserves to recognized on a global level.
At 1:48 where the light jumps around taemin, I thought was interesting because I’ve read that lighting alone can completely change how a person looks I found it was visually pleasing to watch
The imagery is simply showing the dual nature of desire. On one hand it stirs your darker nature of obsession and lust and yet also can open doors to greater meaning as it changes you perspective on life and love. The beauty and deepness of love can be achieved through desire.
"WANT" is definitely one of the best videos i've seen, everything was gorgeous. Even if you dislike the song (idk how you could but ok) is that kind of video that got you asking for more and more. I'm not a fan of Taemin but i LOVE the concepts of his videos and some songs are like a guilty pleasure to me.
The firts thing I did when I heard Taemin droped a MV was ofc go and check it out, and the second thing I did after that was looking up if you released a review of it 😁 I apsolutely love your reviews! Not to mention how professional and detailed your reviews are, and also I love your personality cuz I very very often really think exactly like you 😁 You are adorable, man! Keep it up like this! 💖
Sm PDs are GENIUS. With EXO ,Red Velvet ,SHINEE Taemin,NCT... they all have stories, different Plot we must look for clues everywhere, reconstitute, understand the symbolisms ...That why I'm SM STAN
The door actually is a replica of Rodin's door which is supposed to be the opening to hell ! It's inspired from Dante's Divine comedy so Taemin is definitely up to something but what 😂😂😂
"god he's like a fucking angel" - that's all of us right there, FACTS ONLY Been a Shawol for a decade now and dang, Taem's serving the whole package as he grows - his individuality, concept, style, visuals, vocals, dance, performance, yet still that humble maknae that we all know since debut. He's amazing💙
for me, taemin's solo works really stood out from other soloists in the industry. he has his brand, his own aura and concept that no one could ever follow. sure, others have done covers of his songs but NO ONE can do it exactly like him, no one can convey the same aura as he does. his whole concept being sensual, satanic, dark, creepy, haunting, mysterious, etc is just beautiful. he really draws you in and mesmerize you and once you're in, you can never get out.
That door in the mv is the gates of hell by auguste rodin. It’s a depiction of a scene from dante’s inferno. I remembered seeing the sculpture in stanford many years ago when I was checking out potential colleges. It’s absolutely beautiful and I definitely recommend paying it a visit. The level of detail to sculpting each figure on the door is stunning.
Taemin is an Artist from the capital A, the theme of the whole mv is amazing, the snakes are such a concept too, and it fits the lyrics so much indeed! And now I also can’t wait for your reaction to Hwasa - Twit 💜
“He ascended from hell to drag us all there” => true!! as a fan, i’ve been loving his satanic concept that he’s been pulling out so far.... the darker it become the more seductive it gets and it makes us somehow wanting even more.... brilliant idea tbh!!
Thank you for always reacting to Taemin mvs. I always look forward to what you will say about him and I think his particular form of artistry is the K-pop industry is very very important.
well damn, i had the basic idea of what they were trying to portrait with this concept and all that but you breaking it down like that is just even more mind blowing, that adds so much more to its meaning that i didn't see, awesome.
Taemin kills me every time with each and every comeback ❤❤ also SM is well known for their outstanding job in cinematography when you watch an mv it's like a movie ❤❤❤
Personally, I believe Taemin is representing the apple from the tree of knowledge and us, the viewers, are the "adams" and "eves". In the Creation story, the snake facilitated the seduction between Eve and the apple. Without the snake, Eve would not have noticed it at all. Awfully similar to SM. Without SM, we wouldn't know who Taemin is, nor would we be seduced by his voice and his moves. In many of the cuts Taemin is wearing the color red and the snake is wrapped around him as if cradling him and moving towards him, specifically pointing him out to us. This is just like how SM supports and protects Taemin and has molded him into an irresistible and sexy person to the viewers. There's also that scene where the rolls of film fall and turn to snakes to surround him- it's more symbolic imagery of his production company putting Taemin under a spotlight. Lyrics like "The moment you take me in, you'll be thirsting for more," "Waking you up," "This sweetness from the forbidden apple tempts you," and "open your eyes... I'll make you realize what you never knew" all elude to Taemin being someone/something that sparks the sudden onset of knowledge- much like what the apple did to Eve and Adam. I really want to see what happens next. What happens when we "take" Taemin in; what happens when we bite the proverbial apple? What's behind that formidable doorway? (also, if my theory is true, I think it's funny and ironic that SM is choosing to represent themselves as the "snakes" of the entertainment industry).
everything you have said about this mv is putting all of my mixed up thoughts into words. seriously when i saw this mv at 3am when it was released it was immediately my Favorite MV and Song of All Time!!! it’s hypnotic and addictive, i seriously love, love, love this whole thing it’s one of my favorites i don’t think i will Ever get over this cb from him
Rarely do I see male artists do Siren well. The art of seduction of a siren. Taemin nails it. It's full of seduction, darkness, edginess and danger. That's what I see a lot from him and this video is no exception. Absolutely in love with it. Loving some of the other comments. They graze it, and it's all spot on. Good break down - thoroughly enjoyed it!
i waited for your reaction PD. You're seriously one of the best kpop reaction channels. I love your perspective on the videography and music. and your documentary footage is wild!
I gotta say PD, besides loving your reactions and MV break downs, I sure enjoy listening to you speak while I work, it's such a nice background sound! (And ofc this is a killing comeback, I was so mesmerized by this music video. It's rare that a song and MV wins me on the first watch but Taemin did that)
Thanks for your reaction. Taemin explained the song Want is “about an innocent man who says to the other “You will be wanting me more and more “. Also the message of the lyrics, it actually seems like I’m putting a spell on you.” Dancing and vocals are amazing as usual. Video is hypnotic. 🇨🇦
taemin and his team at sm just keep pushing with every comeback and every time we all think it cant get better but then be comes back and everyones on the floor lol
He's the Apple in the garden of Eden thats out to tempt us all and make us want him more. Complete success in my opinion. If you watch with captions, you will understand, helps explains the video. Love the reaction to it.
Absolutely right, the symbolism here is very heavy on the biblical themes of Adam and Eve, the garden of Eden. Immediately he's wearing red and covered in snakes that he's presumably the master of. The lighting flashes red throughout, and we see him surrounded by flames. Later he appears to be summoning the snakes, they actually go to him, and coming out of the fog is very supernatural and could mean clearing away ignorance and naivety. The lyrics are very obviously referring to the garden when he sings about the apple, and being her eyes to make her see a new world, realise what she never knew. That is basically the story of the Fall. I wasn't aware of the gates/door though. Even in the beginning of the choreography he dances like a snake. He isnt just in control of serpents, he is a serpent. The scenes with what looks like blood though, harder to interpret exactly; it could mean mortal life (as the devil did bring mortality with knowledge), but I also feel like this song has very sexual themes and I kind of see the blood, especially when it immediately follows an eye, as referring to lust, excitement, passion. This is a sexy song and I think at least half the Taemints had dirty thoughts after the first line. SM finally giving subtitles for this is no coincidence; the lyrics are everything, they're important for the imagery of the video and not to mention, SM wants Shawols to be attracted to Taemin, to be hypnotised, put under a spell, stolen by him, and they have been doing this with Tae since Danger and then Move. Taemin has always been about seduction. And SM wants us to listen and watch again and again and buy, buy, buy. And we do because we frigging love Taemin and we are more than happy to be in the cult of Lee Taemin. By the way, the girl in the MV... I see her sort of like a puppet that's controlled by him! Taemin as an artist is really something to be admired. A lot of people think kpop is Ice Cream Cake and colourful novelty videos. Taemin proves there's real artistry in kpop. I think people love dark symbolism as an art because its powerful on a psychological level. Last note on what is already an essay: it really has to be said that Taemin is a religious man. I think he's catholic (someone correct me if I'm wrong). He's worn beads and catholic rings for years. He has said he does not use fortune telling because it's forbidden in his religion. We have seen him make the sign of the cross and pray (I remember a new years fancam from a few years ago where everyone was cheering and hugging except for Tae, who was in prayer and they left him alone). He's named dogs Adam and Eve. So this MV is even more interesting when you take that into account and Taemin would never want to ... what's the word... promote anti Christian messages. I'd like to know his thoughts on the video and what it means to him. Maybe he just compartmentalises it as imagery that goes with the song, the song being about love/romance and it has no other meaning to him. Or maybe being very familiar with the story he liked the idea of using it in his art. That was my long ass analysis on the MV. I think its incredible production wise and Taemin's best, if not SM's best. They don't fuck around with Taemin, they work hard on his career and he works hard. This really, really deserves to get as big as Move. He's a hallyu king.
a SHINee Noona i really like this theory, after reading this and watch the mv again, it really makes sense now. and the water at the end, do you think it connects to baptism?
Thank you so much for reacting to this video!!! I’ve been looking forward to your reaction since the first time I watched this video. As mentioned in other comments, the door at the end is Rodin’s “Gates of Hell”, so it’s more likely that Taemin is gonna ascend from hell and drag us all down :P

Taemin is just.. I don't know.. but I know that no one will ever be able to reach him, he's a top tier artist!
"There's some Fullmetal alchemist shit here" I laughed very hard there, I can't unsee it now
The imagery is simply showing the dual nature of desire.
Taemin is super cute, sweet and warm off stage. The duality is terrifying. He’s so good at acting.
Taemin is a walking piece of art, everything he does and shows us has been so carefully crafted for us and just makes us want more of him!
"this is the hotness" yup
0:46 THIS IS THE REACTION I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR LOL 😂 "God, he is like a fucking angel." Please, dear PD, once upon a time devil was an angel too
You should see the Concept Video for this they went full American Horror Story for that one
Taemin is the undisputed king
Beautiful Taemin, Beautiful Dance. I like this unique Taemin's style. It's precious.
The door actually is a replica of Rodin's door which is supposed to be the opening to hell ! It's inspired from Dante's Divine comedy so Taemin is definitely up to something but what 😂😂😂
I love this reaction - one of my favorites - thank you!
"god he's like a fucking angel" - that's all of us right there, FACTS ONLY
Been a Shawol for a decade now and dang, Taem's serving the whole package as he grows - his individuality, concept, style, visuals, vocals, dance, performance, yet still that humble maknae that we all know since debut. He's amazing💙
This MV still has me SHOOK like I just listen to the song and immediately all the scenes come to my head. It's mesmerizing.
for me, taemin's solo works really stood out from other soloists in the industry. he has his brand, his own aura and concept that no one could ever follow. sure, others have done covers of his songs but NO ONE can do it exactly like him, no one can convey the same aura as he does. his whole concept being sensual, satanic, dark, creepy, haunting, mysterious, etc is just beautiful. he really draws you in and mesmerize you and once you're in, you can never get out.
And now I also can’t wait for your reaction to Hwasa - Twit 💜
i love the cross background design😊, the horizontal screen and the thick vertical blue wall behind it.😊 at 1:19.
I love this vid so much it's just so beautiful
Taemin kills me every time with each and every comeback ❤❤ also SM is well known for their outstanding job in cinematography when you watch an mv it's like a movie ❤❤❤
3:38 PD: "owwwww!!! There's some Full-metal Alchemist looking shit. Ow, that door!"
Can totally relate
I thought he was the one putting the snakes there. He has a lot of creative control over his work
I have been waiting for your reaction to Taemin - Want. Thank you so much. I always enjoy your reaction
« It reminds me of one those wayv music video » so you watched it !!! 😫😭😆😆😆
the only reaction video i watch till the end, thank you! i really do appreciate every single break down :)
everything you have said about this mv is putting all of my mixed up thoughts into words. seriously when i saw this mv at 3am when it was released it was immediately my Favorite MV and Song of All Time!!! it’s hypnotic and addictive, i seriously love, love, love this whole thing it’s one of my favorites i don’t think i will Ever get over this cb from him
I love your reaction and analysis. I REALLY LOVE this music video. It's one of my TOP 3 for sure. It's beautiful. And every cut is amazing.
I'm happy you noticed the shift between full screen and wide screen that is the most interesting point on this mv for me
I soooo AGREE with your interpetation, I was waiting for someone to fully appreciate this like you do!!!
one of the best idol dancers and vocalists in kpop industry
Rarely do I see male artists do Siren well. The art of seduction of a siren. Taemin nails it. It's full of seduction, darkness, edginess and danger. That's what I see a lot from him and this video is no exception. Absolutely in love with it. Loving some of the other comments. They graze it, and it's all spot on. Good break down - thoroughly enjoyed it!
I love how whipped PD is for taemin.
Thanks for doing this PD!!
17:33 "he ascended from hell to drag us all there because we're all sinners and he's come to punish us... and you know what? I don't hate that"😂😂😂
i waited for your reaction PD. You're seriously one of the best kpop reaction channels. I love your perspective on the videography and music. and your documentary footage is wild!
Taemin is so talented.love him.
Jonghyun is so proud up there in his part of the moon 🌕
I gotta say PD, besides loving your reactions and MV break downs, I sure enjoy listening to you speak while I work, it's such a nice background sound!
(And ofc this is a killing comeback, I was so mesmerized by this music video. It's rare that a song and MV wins me on the first watch but Taemin did that)
Thanks for your reaction. Taemin explained the song Want is “about an innocent man who says to the other “You will be wanting me more and more “. Also the message of the lyrics, it actually seems like I’m putting a spell on you.”
Dancing and vocals are amazing as usual. Video is hypnotic.
🇨🇦
LOVE your analysis!!! Taemin is my fave!!!!
taemin and his team at sm just keep pushing with every comeback and every time we all think it cant get better but then be comes back and everyones on the floor lol
This entire album is AMAZING! I cannot stop listening to it! Artistic Groove and Monologue are on almost constant repeat.
Taemin is the only person that can take my breath away for an entire video
He's the Apple in the garden of Eden thats out to tempt us all and make us want him more. Complete success in my opinion. If you watch with captions, you will understand, helps explains the video. Love the reaction to it.
I love your reaction and I love Taemin! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for bringing up Behind The Black Rainbow, really under appreciated
I have never heard you squeak like that and its amazing!! Amazing reaction/review!
Fun fact: the girl at 2:41 actually debuted this year as the leader of aespa
