Not a massive barrier but it is still financial barrier in many ways unless you opt for the cheapest of the cheapest. And even then it's still somewhat of a barrier depending on income.
Thanks for the review/showcase. It's amazing how many budget full-frame lenses are now available, and they probably more than adequately meet the needs of a large chunk of the market.
I have to say that for us the non professional photographers these third party lenses are God sent. We need affordable options which the big companies are denying us and their prices make any purchase foreboding. The old dalr lenses have become affordable and I have no problem using an adapter as I can get good glass at prices I can afford. But if I want to get a mirrorless lens then affordable options are almost non existent from the mother companies. So well done to sirui and the other third party companies for taking care of us.
The man actually did it. Now we have Mark Bennett and just camera crisis written lol. I called from on the first studio/shed tour. I don't know if it's there for a while. I've been out of UA-cam controlling my GAS for some time. Now I have some catching up to...
Nice review and thank you for not butchering the pronunciation of Sirui! I know their website says “Sue Ray” but the first word is difficult to anglicise. If I had to try, I’d say the ‘i’ in “Si” is silent, so go “Sss Ray”, like a hissing sound
Its kind of wild how much has changed in the past 3 years of budget photography with budget lenses. Here's to hoping for a good budget autofocus zoom from these Chinese brands.
I’m debating between the Sirui 85mm f/1.4 Aurora and TTArtisan 75mm f/2. Both seem great, but the TTArtisan is so much lighter and compact. Does the larger aperture on the Sirui make a big difference for portraits?
@@Noahphotography-n9l they’re both great, but an 85 1.4 does have more noticeable blur than a 75 f2. But you can still get a nice shallow depth of field with the 75 f2. I think that ttartisan is great so go with your instinct.
I've always been a fan of the size and weight of the Sony 85mm F1.8, but if the Sirui comes close with it's AF I think it might be the way I go for a full frame portrait lens next. The Sony is not a new lens anymore, so have you got thoughts on it's AF over the Sirui?
the real wrench in the works is the sigma 85 1.4 II, it might be double the price new but at 700-800 used with vastly better AF especially in video it makes the GM look a bit... meh while also being close enough in price to the sirui to make a compelling option to step up in price. the meike on the other hand I hated, it's sharp enough but everything else is just barely in the realm of good enough for a hobbyist great video as always though, but I might be biased due to your famously handsome voice
Great vid as per usual. Was looking at an 85MM for the Z mount for portraits and some children in action. This 85 seems to have a pretty quick focus motor. Also like the YONGNUO 1.8. Any recommendations? Will in camera corrections apply to JPEGS for these lenses? Or are we stuck correcting manually?
They do have some in camera corrections, but they don’t do much. You don’t notice it really in your day to day photos. I didn’t correct any of the photos of me in the alley
well, comparing lens sharpness on a 12MP body isn't really telling anything. If they're equal on at least an A7 IV , better A1 or A7R, then you can say one is better or equally as good. There is almost no lens that looks bad on a A7S / ZV-E1. Other than that, pretty impressive for a low budget 1.4

There is no longer such a massive financial barrier to enter into photography.
Unless you live where I am lol, Shit’s unfair
@ I get it. I’m out of work and sold most of my stuff.

China open the door for everyone now 🎉

Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it.
So much Penn cushions distortion, omg! That's an insane amount of it!

will you make a comparison video with Viltrox 75mm F1.2 PRO lens?

If you're not good, you won't sell... I love it. Put it on a t-shirt
🤣
8:26 for me, the GM II performs much better in this regard, and also the Meike.
This colorish tint was also visible in handsome alley.
Yeah, Longitudinal chromatic aberration (LCA) look quite bad at the Sirui and seem non existent on the Meike
Mark, what does your Christmas List look like? Never have I seen you so happy with all these new releases.
I think I might get the A7RV to help with all these lens tests!!
I picked up the Meike for that killer price during Prime Days. Really like it.
Great to hear!! It’s an awesome lens
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I´m about to buy a 85 mm but which one should I choose, the Sirui or the Meike????
Its kind of wild how much has changed in the past 3 years of budget photography with budget lenses. Here's to hoping for a good budget autofocus zoom from these Chinese brands.
I think there are vertical black bars at the side of the video😂
chroma is screaming super loud in the sirui lens
What about the Yongnuo 85 f1.8? Isn’t it the sharpest 85mm lens on the market?
It's sharper yes. But it lags behind a little in size and CA. Still a GREAT lens

Meike 85 or the viltrox 75 im on the fense?!?
damn im gonna have to grab a new camera bag soon 2 new lenses this past two months
Viltrox 13mm
Tamron 90 Macro
now thinking about this one too

Yeah. It seems to be a better choice right now. The Sony autofocus is less noisy in lowlight - but other than that
I keep hearing about these guys. Do they make anything for canon EF or RF mounts?
Your image file name on the left is prefixed A74, but that was not one of the two cameras mentioned!? 😂 1:17
Haha - shoot. I guess that one was with the A7IV. I’m blind. Still - same applies - can’t zoom in on the 33mp vs 12mp. Better, but still not fair 😂😂
What about active stabilization? I usually stay still, with active steady on, to avoid using monopods.
For video, the Sony lenses will work better with active stabilization
🤣 I’m very confused now. Thanks for sharing ✌🏻
Ha - so many good options
@ indeed.

I wish more affordable zoom lens were released.
I think you missed Sigma 85 f1.4 in your comparison.
I didn’t have the lens. I don’t always have access to every lens. I wish I did
Ok but is there any way to like delete their logo? That aurora is just wild 😕

Damn. No L mount. Oh well. Very handsome video as usual, though.
Yes. L-Mount has been a little closed off lately!!
How is it against the Sigma?
I don’t have the Sigma here - but the Sigma is similar to the GM II in teams of quality. But it’s bigger
Why is there a black border on the video?
just a different aspect ratio
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis but it's on all sides

Sorry buy add a few bucks to get the sigma 1.4
This is why I prefer Sony to canon, cheap glass
so many options
Cheap, poor glass
Meike > maky
