My mom got the disease and waited until she was clinically dead and had emergency surgery and was in ICU for 8 weeks with 5 of those weeks she was in a medical induced coma. Thank you Dearborn County Hospital for saving my mom.

I think he means she ignored the symptoms until it was no longer something you can ignore. She wasn't even in a hospital until she essentially died.

I lost my mom to this and sepsis. It had unfortunately continued to spread after surgery, and I tried one more surgery, before it was choosing to let her go. I’m glad that there are many who are surviving.

You don’t hear of many people AT ALL coming out of having this awful type of infection with all of their limbs, let alone their lives! So glad for her. My girlfriends dad went through 40+ surgeries. It traveled from his lower wrist up his arm and across his chest. He unfortunately lost his arm, after being admitted for two and a half months. The doctors had him on a respiratory system for too long and collapsed his right lung, and never really gave us updates on how he was doing. We were certain we were gonna lose him but somehow he overcame the bacteria after many many many pain staking hours.

My husband just died from flesh eating bacteria. The doctors said all they could do is give him triple antibiotics. I called another hospital and explained he had flesh eating bacteria. They told me there was other treatment options. My husband's doctor wouldn't approve of the hospital transfer nor let him leave the hospital. They sedated him early in the morning and he passed away later that day.

The strain that causes necrotizing fasciitis is able to exhibit a variety of enzymes that break down hyaluronic acid between cells, bursts cells, and dissolve blood clots.

Proteins like hyaluronidase can break down a component of the extracellular matrix called hyaluronic acid (which is a vital chemical in the human body), streptokinase is another protein that can dissolve blood clots which allows the infection to spread. These enzymes and others all come together to form the effects visible in this disease.

The doctors have no idea how it started, especially as I was being so careful with hygiene. It destroyed 30% of the muscles and skin on my back. Two surgeries, two and a half months of daily hyperbaric chamber treatments, and wearing a wound vac, I am on the mend . My site has gone from an 8. I have strep A as we speak. The dr said it was beginning to get i to my flesh. He said if I feel ANY pain at all go directly to the ER, do not pass go, do not collect 200 lol. I came back with results for flu, streptococcal pnumonia, strep A and scarlet fever. The strep was ravaging.my body and begun turning necrotic on the back of my throat and tonsil. It was small spots the dr said let the body remove it, it wasn't large enough for surgery they hoped. been 3 days. My tonsil still feels like a rock is in .y throat and there is...a lot of blood but the pain is gone...ish. The dr was baffled. He came back asking how I was even still alive. My herbs baby. I lived like this for a week before I threw in the towel lol.

That's great news. Maybe these great doctors could come to Australia and teach these doctors here that not everyone with similar amoeba coursing through their skin are meth junkies seeing meth bugs. I for one have been suffering, alone with God knows what it is in wounds over 5 years now. They have gotten bigger. They have spikes, are flat, change shape, can't be burnt, poisoned and when crushed turn to particles which dive into my skin again and form new ones, which join together again.... When dr's call you a liar for 5 years but you know they are there it's only when one dr believes your story, with fear in their eyes that craziness and depression sets in. It drives friends and family away. So I face the devil alone for I feel it's too late. I'm glad you recovered.

So can anyone clear something for me? I looked everyone online and not alot is known bout this disease but one thing that i just dont understand is if necrotizing fasciitis is caused by the same bacteria ( that i read) that lives in your throat and nose then does it mean if i were to rub some from a person who has it in their throat with a swab then rub it on your wound....would you then get necrotizing fasciitis?? Does anyone know??

I don't think so. I think the bacteria in your throat is different than the bacteria that causes the infection.

You get it from exposure to certain strains of Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. What makes these bacteria so dangerous, is the proteins they are able to synthesize.

@@raffaelesigona2399 It's a flesh eating bacteria. I have notice at first my skin is turning red and itchy and a moments later, my skin water, swollen and my flesh fell off and a bit of blood come out. Then I just remember, why don't I tried apple cider since I remember apple cider cured the skin infection of my dog was treated. Then I put apple cider on the skin infected area, after that the watery skin has dried off and there is no itchy anymore. The bleeding stops and my wound is healed.
