Today we're going to be covering 4 steps to help you diagnose your engine control module symptoms (PCM/ECM/ECU Control Module) as to whether or not it is the issue in your vehicle. The steps we're going to be covering in this video to help you identify some of the bad ecm symptoms are.Visit our Website we sell powertrain control module replacement at the best price : www.fs1inc.com/engine-control...
We specialize in Automotive Hardware and Software solutions.
    1. Visual Inspection
When doing a visual inspection you want to start out by inspecting the PINs. You want to make sure there are all upright and intact. If that checks out, you then want to move on to a smell test - a simple whiff by the plug of the unit will let you know whether the unit is alright. If you get a distinct odor of burnt plastic that lets you know that it’s not ok. At that point, you want to further inspect the board by opening up the unit.
When opening up the unit, you wanna visually inspect for any burnt components or corrosion. If either one of the two is found, the Engine Computer needs to be replaced.
    2. A simple Swap
For Step 2, a simple swap can be done. This will only be effective when working on an older vehicle. Particularly, OBD-I where ECM does not require Programming. At that point, if you can find a Replacement unit matching you exact original Part Number when putting that Replacement into your vehicle, if it can communicate with that Electrical Control Module, that’s a very big hint that the unit is needed to be replaced.
    3. Using a tool such as a Scanner
For step 3 of you diagnostics, you can use a tool such as a scanner. Hooking up a scanner to your OBD-II port will let you know whether or not are there any codes coming from the Engine Computer. Once you have Diagnostics trouble codes, you will be able to know whether the root of the problem was the Engine Computer, or if the Computer is communicating then there’s something else with the vehicle is going on.
    4. And Process of Elimination
For step 4 of you diagnosing your Engine Computer, we’re gonna be covering the Process of Elimination. When diagnosing you Engine Computer by process of elimination, we are going to be focusing on two halves: the Inputs vs the Outputs.
The Inputs consist of your Battery, the Ignition Switch, the Fuses, and the Sensors. The Outputs consist of Fuel Injector, the Fuel Pump, the Spark Plugs, and the Starter.
With the Inputs, we have to trace that through to make sure that enough power is getting to the Engine Computer. You start off with the battery - is there enough voltage coming out? Then trace that voltage through the ignition switch, through the fuses, and through the sensors. We also offer powertrain control module repair services and powertrain control module replacement. at fs1 we are a leader in ECU Engine control module programming

These are the types of videos that should be getting paid, seriously. Thorough, concise, legitimate, no guess answers. Some you tubers have dangerous information that could get people hurt or even killed. This would be my gold standard for how to videos should be produced and brought to viewers.

This is not always true, plugging up a scanner doesn’t always tell you the computer is bad. Matter of fact most of the time the computer won’t diagnose itself

Very nice! Not many people can explain this so clearly. If only computers could be more easy to swap would be great since we are stuck with them. Cars are turning in to PCs. Even connected to the internet. Bicycles too have computers anymore. Some times I miss the old days.

Ordered an engine computer for my F150. I didn't know I needed programmed keys. Customer service was great and helped me order a set of keys before the computer shipped out. I know a coworker who spent days trying to get keys programmed and more money than I spent. This was such an easy process and great experience. They were so nice, not like the rude guys at the auto parts stores and dealership, and it was at a better price.

William Santiago It would not be good on modern engine as it has so many sensors that if one goes out you will be left guessing. But I do agree it was less confusing on the bygone era of older cars. Much simpler.

I have a Toyota hilux Australian version 5vzfe engine and i stopped taking it to Toyota because they never did everything on the checklist they said! For example telling me they also fixed my indicator in my bullbar then i get home 5 mins from the dealership and turn my indicators on and bullbar still not working. Get out of car crawl under bullbar and i can see it hasn't been touched cos its still dirty. Pulling the rubber seal back to get to it getting dirt in my eyes, find a matching bulb and replace it and clean up the terminals and fine for about 6 months or so. Look at the dipstick to see clean oil and don't look that clean for a 90000 km vehicle. Been doing my own for years now

I've got a ram 1500 and I had symptoms of bad idle when it rained, heavy rain would kill my engine. At times, the idle would go from heat to complete crap. I drove through a large water puddle and it died. Then, it actually started back up, drove 20 yards and it completely died. No ignition cranking. Lights come on but no crank. I went to pci and checked fuse outputs. Outgoing to ECM were fine. When I turn the key, no fuel pump sound.
When open the relay for starter, I can force the contact to kick starter but no life in the fuel pump, injectors or anything...
I have all the signs of a bad ECM. I recently ordered a new one from flagship. Let's see if this works.
    Thanks for the video

I think you just answered my question. 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8 L engine. It just died at a stoplight. Starter would not work, and brand new fuel pump that was only a week old will not work either. I wired my starter into a starter button and the starter still works fine. Spray in starting fluid and motor tries to start. So since my starter and brand new fuel pump quit at the same time. It must be the ECM. Thank you.

I am getting a P0303 code. Replaced all plugs, plug wires, coils, injectors, and the connector to the #3 injector and still get it. I have getting good compression to all cylinders, all rockers are moving fine on that bank and cylinder. I am now at the point where the only thing left is the crank and cam sensors or the ECU. I wouldn't think the sensors would cause on cylinder misfire consistently so I am at ECU. Does this sound like what type of indication you would get? I have yet to do the smell test but and working towards that now before I order a unit. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2001 ford f350 7.3L crew cab, with no communication coming from PCM. Once I pulled the PCM, which I have owned this truck since 2017. I was told 2 things that this PCM is Plug and Play - and it has to be programmed. But my vehicle does not have programable keys. This is not the original one, plus this PCM has shown that it came out of F250 Ford. I contacted Flagship and was told that my the PCM must be programmed by the parts # DPC 422 1C3F-12650-zc, plus I also gave my truck VIN # . What do you suggest or recommend again about this problem.

    Hi Aída.
I am diagnosing a no start condition on a GM Daewoo OBD1 Vehicle. Everythin is fine: Compressión, timming , Spark , inyection pulse, and fuel Pressure (Signal from the ECM.)..
Could a bad ECM cause a no start condition? (Like sending improper initial time ).
    I woud aprreciate your opinión..🙏🏻

Byron Borbor Andrade I bought a new battery for my car after it sat of almost a year and It crank just fine after replacing the fuel pump it ran like a dream. Then I got a no comm and no turn over a few days later all lights were on and fine. I got a jumpstart and it ran fine. Later It died and I have no communication using obd2 and after jumpstarting I can't get it to crack. Bad ecu ? or faulty alternator ? Buick LeSabre 2001

I just purchased a ECM from you guys for a 2007 Pontiac Montana SV6 3.9 motor and I’m trying to relearn the key but the security light won’t stay on, the Second you turn the key to the on position the security light goes out within a second so was wondering if you could tell me why? So could you tell me how I could fix this? Thanks
