As soon as Shannon explained the basis for the Objective vs. Subjective list, I guessed my Blues would appear somewhere mid-pack in the objective and not at all in the subjective. After all, it’s hard to hate a team that took 52 years to win our first and only Stanley Cup! On a semi-related note, despite growing up in STL and being a Blues fan since 1968, my 2nd favorite team is….the Blackhawks! Yeah, weird, huh? First pro game I ever went to was when I was 11 and it was the St. Louis Braves of the CHL, and they were a Chicago farm club and wore the same sweaters as the Blackhawks. Plus, the few NHL games we got on TV tended to be from Chicago, when Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita were in their prime. And finally, in my late 30’s, I lived in Chicago for 6 years and went to a lot of games at Chicago Stadium. Always interesting to hear how various people “choose” their favorite teams. Some are hometown teams, some because their dad or mom had a favorite, etc.

I can understand being mad at the Wings 25 years of success but man it must have been hard to REALLY hate a team with such cool guys like Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanahan, Larionov, Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg...do I need to keep going?
I'm surprised Calgary isn't on the objective list. Game 7 overtime over dallas a couple years ago, Winnipeg in the play in round a couple years before that, game 7 overtime vs Vancouver in 2003... and that's just what I remember since I started watching hockey in 2000.
In rural Nova Scotia in the 70's there was one hockey game a week on TV, Saturday night, Hockey Night In Canada. Every game was either Montreal or Toronto so, as a Bruins fan, I could only ever see Boston play those two teams during the regular season. Other than Sittler's 10 point night, not many Leaf's games left an impact. Montreal, on the other hand, was probably the most impactful team they faced in those years. As a long time Bruins fan, I would absolutely put Montreal # 1 on my list.

I'm a Blackhawks fan. They are the only team I pull for. I can't say I dislike any teams. When the Hawks don't make the Playoffs (Which is always nowadays) I just enjoy watching the Cup Playoffs and hope for good series.
I like how 6 of the top 7 teams were all teams who you could loosely argue had dynasties during that time. And I called 1-2-3 on the objective list before the video started. I wasn't sure if it was gonna be Edmonton 1 or Chicago 1, but I was leaning Edmonton, but was also certain you'd have Chicago higher than Edmonton on the subjective list.
Islanders were one of my FAVE teams in the 1970s. For me, as a kid, the early 80s were the best time being an Islanders' and hockey fan. It was a fantastic time with amazing hockey memories. Since I grew up in Saskatchewan, I didn't have a geological preference or major loyalty to any specific hockey team in the mid-1970s (no Oilers, Jets, or Flames until 79 & 80). For a province with no NHL club, this was the closest thing. Islanders were loaded with Sasky players at the time ... Trottier, Resch, Gillies, Bourne, Lewis, Henning. A buddy from my childhood was also related to Bourne. ~ I finally fell off the Isanders bandwagon during the Mike Milbury/fish-sticks era. Brutal. ~ I still have a soft spot for them though... but they've been a below average club for the past 30 years. At times, they'd tease you with promise. And I've never liked Patrick Roy ... So I'm still a little conflicted with my once-strong attachment to that franchise.
I hated the Rangers for years after 1994, especially for the 1st period of game 7, which I felt wasn’t called fairly. But that’s long over. I’ve rooted for them a few times when Lundqvist was in goal.
As a Hawk fan I am really surprised we were not number 1 on both. Since the beginning of your channel I always thought that you HAD to hate the Hawks. Hell I would have.
Wonder if this year played any part in knocking the Oilers up to #1 on the Objectively Hate list (beat Vancouver in 7 in Round 2, then Dallas in 5 in Round 3), or if they were already in that spot prior to this year.
I’ve been a Caps fan since the 80s so Pens are easily my most hated team, forever and not even close! But I gotta add that starting fantasy hockey in 2006 has made me more open to rooting for anyone if they are helping me win
Am I the only one that was astounded by the New Jersey trap era? Like, I don't particularly care about them, but I always felt that team during that era was artful.
It is in videos like this that I am reminded how lucky I am to live in a society that is so passionate about sports yet I can still go to a game with a die-hard fan from my most hated franchise and no matter what, end the night sharing beer and wings.
LOL, it wasn't until you explained why the Oilers are #1 on the Objective list that I understood the difference. But makes sense. As an Oilers fan since the 80s, I think it's cool that you don't hate them as much as you should! I have always kind of liked Vancouver and rooted for them over the years. Even today.
I was thinking that too, but realized that they don't have enough history. Avs came in in 1996, so 15 years of not being on the list and Quebec wasn't any good before that. I'm sure the Avs had points but couldn't compete with the teams that have been there from Shannon's day one.
Totally off topic, but with the release of the 24/25 schedule we know next year the team that travels the most, Dallas, with travel almost twice as far as the team that travels the least, Pittsburgh. I know it's always been lopsided in favor of the East, but that seems pretty bad. Could be a fun video to look back at who traveled the most and if/how much it hurt their performance through the years.
It's worth noting the travel distance includes the Global Series games in Finland as part of the travel distance. Obviously they still have to travel the distance so it's fair to include it, but there's a fairly sizable gap between the games before and after those games to somewhat offset that travel distance. That's 5,154 miles each way (preceding and subsequent games are back in Dallas) or 10,308 miles total. Of course they'd have had to travel some distance to get to Florida for one of those games, but it's tough to determine exactly the travel distance since it's unlikely it would've been a trip to Florida for one game before heading straight back...they could've combined it with their trip to Tampa on November 23rd.

Objective and subjective? "You keep saying that. I don't think they mean what you think it means." lol
Thanks for the daily content
I am okay being number 1 on a list right now. :D
I absolutely love the off-season content 😍
As a Canucks fan I'm surprised Shannon didn't put the Canucks on the board given how frustrating they can be
Shannon 🤝 Wings fans
*hating Pens and BlackHawks*
I hated the Rangers for years after 1994, especially for the 1st period of game 7, which I felt wasn’t called fairly. But that’s long over. I’ve rooted for them a few times when Lundqvist was in goal.
As a Hawk fan I am really surprised we were not number 1 on both. Since the beginning of your channel I always thought that you HAD to hate the Hawks. Hell I would have.
Those games from 2009 to about 2012.
As a Flyers fan, I'd like to say to Shannon, 2010! surprised that was not mentioned. And the reply to that is 2011, and Game 6 too 😁
You are wearing such a majestic jersey mister Shannon
I expected SJ on here for sure. Being a canucks fan anyways
My favorite videos! I can't wait to see where the Red Wings are at!
Shannon, have you taken that Favorite NHL Team Ranking Quiz that's been making the rounds?
you should do a video on the history of the battle of Alberta, i think it would be really interesting!
Am I the only one that was astounded by the New Jersey trap era? Like, I don't particularly care about them, but I always felt that team during that era was artful.
As a Caps fan, we graciously accept you in our ally camp.
It is in videos like this that I am reminded how lucky I am to live in a society that is so passionate about sports yet I can still go to a game with a die-hard fan from my most hated franchise and no matter what, end the night sharing beer and wings.
NJ fan since 1988. In order, i hate the Rangers and Flyers. Obvs. Also, Canes and Caps. Oddly I don't hate the Pens or Isles.
Even today.
I feel like it says a lot that the Pens are your most hated (at least in 2016) team, and I'm a huge Pens fan. Yet I love your content.
Dang, both Conference Finals and the Cup Final in 2013 must have sent you into a tizzy.
Canucks vs Habs in 1975 NHL play offs.
also the very first time the Canucks won a game against the Canadiens, if I remember correctly.
@@tcoram1 but otherwise they got destroyed in that series.
Its the offseason, this is the only thing I have to watch.
very close to how I see things in the hockey world !!!
I knew Penguins & Oilers would be tops, been following for years!
easy to hate the teams that win when the teams you support typically don't
Could have sworn Colorado would show up but glad they didn't
I was thinking that too, but realized that they don't have enough history. Avs came in in 1996, so 15 years of not being on the list and Quebec wasn't any good before that. I'm sure the Avs had points but couldn't compete with the teams that have been there from Shannon's day one.
I was surprised they didn't make the list.
i would love to see the dark version of that jersey
Subjective, objective existential List THG!? I’m following-but that’s pretty deep Sir.
For the player exodus out of Calgary, is it all down to the Saddledome?
Shannon being a Canucks fan I can totally understand him hating the rangers
The Oilers have played the spoiler so often over their existence, this is very fitting
As a loyal Bruins fan this is the only franchise I follow, admire and like. All other NHL teams are simply in the way and ignored…
I pity adjacent Buffalo as well. The weird thing is the connections between Buffalo and Carolina, not just in hockey but NFL too
