Born in the late 80s, train travel was the only known mode of transport across India. At a time when Konkan Railway didn't exist, I can remember all the times we reached our destination safely. Indian trains back in the day had zero automation.Then rode the Mumbai local trains during my youth, the lifeline of Mumbai. These videos are an eye-opener of the hardships of individuals who are in charge of trains and how they work all holidays and festivals. Ive moved overseas since 2012 and can't help but think how underpaid and under appreciated their job is. I take my hat off to each and every train driver. P.S. - Except the direct recruitment WR 'motorman' who would strike and then would act like goons when a goods locopilot would drive the local train. The real motormen were the ones who came through the ALP route. Enjoy your retirement Sir. I hope the government looks after you, rest a lot and enjoy your golden years.

The direct recruitment motormen of WR always held the city to ransom. I considered them fake LPs as they never did the hard yards - ALP, Sr ALP, Shunter, Goods LP and then Passenger LPs. When they went on strike for the stupidest reasons, Goods LPs would step in and drive the local trains(Loco attached to the front) only to be confronted by those sidekicks. WR had a direct recruitment cadre as there was a massive shortage and not enough LPGs were getting qualified to become motormen. Even their union - WRMA is illegal. Thank God WR stopped this practice, the only zone to have this direct recruitment group. It gives Goods LPs a good opportunity to move to passenger trains sooner.
