Yes the writing and drawing are the primary reasons for long wait times for indie books. If the story has to be designed from the ground up, that's more time. Layouts, pencils, inking, coloring, lettering, revisions, pre press all take time. A lot of indie artists are doing this part time in between other gigs, a regular job and other life obligations. That's not an excuse to be years late claiming that, "art takes time." Especially if there is a push to be better than mainstream entertainment. Fulfillment is something that can be learned. If it's confusing, there's a community of creators who have done it and professionals from other industries who provide free advise. If it's boring, there's fulfillment companies who have been doing this for years and aren't going to bite off a chunk of campaign money or require NDA's to be signed. So what is Eric offering? Other than the perceived prestige of being loosely associated with the Rippa brand which would only appeal to morons who think they might get a crumb of the Rippaverse pie. Fully expect some scandal to come out of Rippasend as with everything else Rippa related.
Eric July is a middle man to the middle man, absolutely insane. 3pl's have been around for a long time. He isn't going to interact with a better comic writer/artists considering he's not going to promote.
The reason he cant scale down or fire people or do any of the logical options and can only keep pushing forwards as hard as he can is because if he fires anyone or pisses them off by reducing their pay or anything, theyll snitch on him. He's quite literally put himself in a position of being deathly afraid of everyone around him because he thought he knew better and now has to risk doing dumb things and hope it works out so that if it all fails, he wont be blamed and can say he did everything he could to help everyone.
@@silverback7348 one is sustainable and actually makes money and is a healthy environment and the other one is the Rippaverse. Turns running a business isn't actually hard so when someone brags about making millions, it's usually because they don't know how business works and they think a small burst of income is going to last forever. It usually happens when people who've never had a real job start a project fueled by nothing but hype.
I think it could be a great way to rip-off collaborators, where the owner pays RippaSend $17 for shipping, but he pays the owner $5 back (because the real cost was $12). That way you can bilk partners that work for a percentage of the profit by showing them that after shipping you made far less than you actually did. If I was Dillard in the Yellowflash deal (for example), I would be _very_ wary that Flash might be claiming massive shipping costs that aren't real by using his friend for shipping that might be getting some of that money back off the books. Unless RippaSend can show documents to show how the money were spent (which of course he can't and won't), how can you know there isn't a shady under-the-table deal going on with the person in charge of the campaign?
As an indie writer, the money i would pay Eric I can instead buy whatever services for myself directly from whichever company (Tshirt, printer). The key to independence in business is educating yourself, persistence and staying focused. Rippasend sounds like a ripoff. Even if July takes 15%, that’s $15,000 that I can do a lot with on my own. I plan to do crowdfunding linked to my professional website which I just set up recently all with the ability to open store and sell merchandise in the near future. Why would I need Eric?

Indie creators charge what it costs to ship because they already got your money from the book and maybe some extras like a poster or whatever. Rippa is fleecing everyone as much as he can because he KNOWS its not sustainable so he needs to make as much money as quickly as possible before it burns.
