  • Fishing in August can be challenging,
with low flows and little day time insect activity,
the trout are not feeding with any great enthusiasm.
Still, the option is to go fishing or not....
Use a new camera, and video editing software so please for give any minor issues....

The rod used was a 7ft 4wt fiberglass

Thank You Markus. There is some lovely water here, although I have heard very interesting things about the Black Forest over there.
      Kind Regards
      Luke

      @@bannisterrods Hello Luke,
yes blackforest is very nice 😊. That's where I've grown up and learned flyfishing - because no other fishing posibilities near by -> that was my good luck.
Singe few years I live near Hannover and I have fishing licence for 3 nice rivers at the border of "Harz", one is also really small and grown with overhanging tree that my 7ft rod is nearly too long; I prefer 6 or 6.6ft #4. My 6.3' #5 Partridge and Redditch is to strong (stiff). But few days before christmas I found an old Hardy Palakona The fairy rod 8ft #3/4. Casting this is a lot of fun but it's definitely too long for tiny overgrown creeks.
That's why I really would like to test your short #4 !!!
Kind regards and tight lines, Markus

Just my favourite videos. Thank you. Had an hour on the Tone last night, one beautiful little brownie, several fell off though. Perfect.

Thank You Guy. Good to hear you're getting out on the water, and I'm not the only one who drops off fish...

Yes, absolutely also from my point of view - from germany 😀 !
I really enjoy such small rivers and fishing with short light rods (6 to 7ft and #2 to #4) best. It's stunning nature, great skill required especially for "walking" and casting. And always great observations of "secret" animals possible.
Best regards, good wishes and sometimes also tight line, Markus

Challenging conditions, but still peaceful and beautiful.

Yep certainly challenging, but seeing fish rise, even if I don't stay attached does help make it a good trip, and makes me hopeful for a few weeks time when things start to cool down a touch.

    Hi Luke
always look forward to anything you upload. This short film just serves to remind us anglers of the downs as well as the up's of our sport. Peculiar weather variation all round it appears. Here in the North East we've had some really hot, humid weather interspersed with torrential downpours, but the rivers have hardly moved. Hoping for some improvement in September and I do hope you''ll try and upload some more clips during the month? Tight Lines

Thank You Peter. A strange year all round I think!....September is one of my favorite times of year, and I'll certainly be out with the camera, hopefully a couple of times.

Hi Luke, streams and rivers in mid wales are more exposed bed than water in spite of heavy storms , spinning or fly isn't catching anything these days but it gives time to try new tactics. ATB mike

hi Luke, I agree with Peter Laidler when he says we all look forward to your videos, trout rising late eve today to what I can only describe as a quarter size brown mayfly in appearance , this was on r vyrnwy an thoughts on species in August ?

Thanks Mike, I'm glad the videos are appreciated.
As for the flies hard to tell without seeing them, if you use a smart phone there is a brillant app "Match A Hatch" not perfect but very good and will certain give you a big clue.
I'd go with "Small Olives" hopefully the trout were looking up at them.
I've heard interesting things about the Vyrnwy...

Luke, what would you suggest is a good general size for dry or nymph, is 10 to big ?

    • @bannisterrods
      @bannisterrods  3 роки тому

Hello Michael, personally I like about a size 14 for general fishing, a size 10 is pretty big but it will certainly work

@@bannisterrods Thanks Luke, luckily most of what I have bought so far are 12's so I should be ok then.
