Such beautiful fish, a must for anyone serious about this hobby with a big enough tank and adequate filtration for the fed 3 times a day types lol. Yet another great FF. 👏👏
Amazing tank, impressive actually. Just curious what size is the tank and how many fish you have in total? I was a bit worried that mine has a bit of a bigger bio load until I saw yours 😊
Thank you Emory! Well very infrequent, about 20 liters each month or so... I'm running on Balling Classic so I only tend to do (large) water changes when something is wrong with the water.
Another solid video; only five more to round out the year. You might need to invest in new equipment, corals, or fish just to have enough different topics to finish the series 🙂. I have never kept Evansi, but I agree they are one of the prettiest of the species; I also really like the queen anthias. I have had good luck keeping Bartlett and Lyretail, but only in groups of three to four. For some reason larger groups have always split and one segment dies, just as you described. Like you I haven’t had to feed mine more than once or twice a day, and both regularly eat pellets. I think the key is starting with healthy specimens.
Thanks Andrew! Yeah I might reset the counter after that and start with season 2 haha! Or I might... quit? Well at least I have a good month left to think about what's next :-) maybe a new series, who knows... Queens are also very beautifully detailed indeed! And yeah the randomness of their group size baffles me as well... Indeed it's kind of a hit or miss if you acquire healthy ones or somewhat weakened ones...
Nice tank and nice video... Our experience with Anthias over a range of exhibit sizes is that they should be kept in number of either 3 or more than 20. The reason for this is they are extremely territorial as hermaphrodites. One male will be the most dominant, then followed by a hierarchy of females. The least dominant females receiving abuse from all fish above her in the chain.... as subtle as this abuse may be in the tank viewed during the day. To compound this, if fed only once a day, those subordinate females will loose out on the race for food. There is no doubt feeding small amounts 4-5 times per day is the best way to feed any fish that has evolved over millions of years to planktonic feeding in the water coulomb. While feeding once a day is possible, fish will be lost or it will shorten their life span. If you have a small mixed reef tank like this, we would not recommend attempting to keep more than 3 anthias within it. Otherwise, territorial disputes will arise and feeding a large should the required amount will ultimately require more attention to filtration and maintaining water parameters... to prevent corals browning out. Success is always found in the balance and comprehension of how animals behave and feed in the wild. Enjoy!!
Thank you for the explanation! I still have three left and they're fine together, so your theory totally works! Now that they're in a 1200L display (320g) they should hopefully be fine :)
How do you make your evansi anthias so happy that their color is really showing up beautiful? My evansi color is fading away. Btw, what camera and lens filter do u use for the videos? Thks
Hmm I guess having enough flow is important, and making them feel at home :). I'm using my Galaxy S9 on pro mode at 9100K white balance and -0.4 brightness. No filters or such :)
Hi. Loving the series (I’ve only just subscribed). At some point would you be able to do Focus Friday on the Pipefish. I would love to try keeping these on a mixed reef but I hear many different views as to whether this is a good idea. Keep up the good work 👍
Erg mooie vissen idd wat staan je buttens er trouwens top bij mocht je in de toekomst eens wat weg willen doen laat het even weeten zekker belang bij een aantal soorten
"My fish are the living proof that you dont have to feed them several times a day". Seconds later, I lost 2 out of 5 (40%) over a year" Sometimes these videos have actually great advise as long as one does exactly the opposite than the expert 😂
Thank you for all the time and effort to show us your reef display
You are very welcome!

ghehe true, and thanks!
Always informative, and interesting I look forward to next weeks episode every week
Thanks! Good to know you're anticipating a new video every week :)
Thank you for producing all these great videos!

Beautiful tank and video.
Nice fish. Hope the coffee was tasty😜
Dude your tank is literally insane. How frequent are your water changes, and how much water?

Great video! Love anthias!
Are these also called Purple Queen Anthias?

Thanks for the awesome info... That really helped mate!
whats the striped one with the pointy back fin called? i can't find anything on them!
It's called the Equetus Punctatus, otherwise known as Spotted Drum!

Are you going to do a special video for FF#50?
Hi Mark, I'm not sure yet! Since it's a weekly thing I might do something after 52 episodes (one year) but I'm not quite sure what (yet)
Beautiful fish and tank, what is that black and white striped fish with the high dorsal fin called?
Mitch Boudreaux I think he’s mentioned it’s a marine betta before.
@@penga25 it's a spotted drum

@@bbingtube thanks
bing you are correct. Had my black and white fish mixed up. Both beautiful.

Thanks, good to hear! Well I could but then I'd have to get new ones. Mine unfortunately got killed by a Decorator Crab :(
I've just bought 2 evanti anthias and had them for 2 days but there not swimming too much and not eating too ...any suggestions
Is the one maxspect your only flow in the tank beside the return pump?
Yes indeed, it's providing flow across the entire tank though :)
Mmmmmm Friday.
Where did you buy the led bulbs for your t5 ?
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean, I don't have LED bulbs for T5, I have T5 bulbs and the LED are built into the fixture itself
I have added 5 evansi anthias in my tank 3 days before. But they are not eating. Please help!!!
Oof that's a tough one, have you tried feeding live food as well? Are they still alive?
what is the name of the green coral in your tank on the left?
I assume you mean the Gonipora?
what type of rock did you use to work your scape?
About 80% Real Reef Rock and one ceramic pillar!
Can you PLEASE tell how you got the GSP stay on or attached to the glass?
Thank you.
Sure Craig! It's fairly easy, use some coral glue (for example Seachem Reef Glue) and glue the piece to a bit of coraline algae on the back glass!
@@DutchReefer ...that would have worked before Santa dropped off a Red Sea Reefer
:46 is what species type fish that is back and white ?. white ?
5:45 - Is it a rock mover wrasse ?
I'm having a hard time with feeding them. They only eat cyclops, how can I train them to eat other food such as mysis or brine
They will have to learn over time by seeing other fish eat it. If they don't, it's very hard to get them to eat other stuff!
also what do you feed the corals
I don't really target feed my corals, they benefit from the Masstick which I feed weekly

You're welcome haha! But losing "just" 40% isn't that bad a result with Evansi, although opinions may vary. Anyway, thanks for your insights haha!
how do you quarantine such sensitive fish ?
I rely on my LFS to quarantine the fish, they have very stringent procedures for it :)
