  • Working at liberty, Indi shows our early stage of the levade. Yes, I know this is not a classical levade but a trick levade. I use a clicker for trick training, and I give trick training lessons in southwest Michigan. Use this email address: caelahdee@gmail.com

This is really beautiful for beginning! She has a lot of control which I think is fantastic, unlike some of the people who train their horses to fully rear, which I find extremely dangerous, but this is wonderful! I am planning on training my horse to levade so very good job!w

I realize this is very late, but thank you so much. :) I definitely worked towards control, for I did not want to be responsible for an out-of-control rear. I hope the levade is working well for you!

So you have to tickle the horse to levade?

Ruby Desertheart , I'm not sure what you mean by tickle.... I taught levade in pieces and then connected them, but it was mainly done through pressure (my hands, or tapping with my whip) and a reward system.

very interesting to see the progress and teaching. i want to teach my 24yo paso fino/hackney/warmblood cross this. he’s a very smart horse. he’s been learning the spanish walk and has picked it up very quickly. first time i introduced it to him he understood what k was asking within 20 minutes. and he has down stuff like this (levade) turned out in the arena so i think he will understand very quickly.

At the time (this is from 10 years ago already), I clicker trained/captured this from 2 movements. I taught him to shift weight to his hinds, but I also noticed rewarded when he lifted up for roll backs on the lunge. I no longer teach this trick, but if I were to do it again I would teach it from a school halt. The balance and positioning would be much better for a horse physically.

Unfortunately I do not have a horse in work that I'd like to train this with. I am selective about who i train to do trick work, because horses can become enthusiastic when they're having fun. I do give lessons, but the odds of you being in southwest michigan... Have you started trick work or positive reinforcement training already?

@@taliaverburgt6268 I've been to Spain! Would you be interested in trying out virtual lessons? It's something I'd like to develop to help people with problem solving/trouble shooting, but haven't had the opportunity to do so. If you're interested, we could try to work something out?
