I worked in a fish plant packaging these meals in the summer of 2013, the salt was coarse chunks sprinkled on by who ever was bagging the fillets so it probably isn't actually 5%. Most of the fillets were okay quality, but sometimes the fish could get mushed after cooking by having too many other packs on top of it. The species of salmon was Chinook, which is a pretty good type of salmon. Most people rate the 5 species of pacific salmon as follows; Sockeye,Chinook, Coho, Pink, Chum.
***** if earth was has peaceful, has you believe, then there would be no army. But then... What you believe and what it is. ARE TWO ENTIRE DIFFERENT THING! now... move along and go preach your peace on a hating group channel. instead of 'food' stuff.
I just subscribed! I love watching these reviews. My husband would always bring home MREs for the kids and I to go through and try. We loved it. I love seeing all these from around the world. Cheers!
I stopped in at a small second hand store that has a small military section in Red Deer, AB. Canada. Lot's of nice stuff. I found a completely sealed Canadian ration pack of the same era as you have in you're video. I paid $5.00. I want to open it, but at the same time, It is sealed and in it's original condition. This one of course is labeled in French and English. Breakfast/lunch-menu no. 6 breakfast sausages " 04 " . The fella at the store said he had another one that he and a friend tried out. According to him, it was all OK and tasted not bad.
The reason they give you alot of sauce in the the main(salmon) is it allows you to pour some in the secondary bag. Either rice or potatoes. We used to to pour some of the gravy/ sauce into the secondary when I was in.
If you have the luxury of cooking with an actual heat source and not heater bags you can take that bread and slice it down the middle and throw it on a pot lid over the heat and "toast" the cut side. Doing this seems to make the bread soften and taste much better, especially with the PB&J. If you ever get your hands on another IMP give it a try.
Thank you, good sir. I was beginning to go into withdrawal symptoms due to the dearth of new reviews. Now watch; there'll be six of them in a few days... Kudos to the Canadians for including three (count 'em! THREE!) kinds of spices/condiments.
There is a trick i used to do to make the bread go down. Take the strawberry jam spread on the top of the bread and sprinkle coffee whitener on the top. Its not bad(ish).
This food reminds me of all the carbs I have to eat in football season to keep up with the three a day practices good content gundog I always apreciate yout guys point of view because you put it into an easy to understand perspective
OK. You answered my question. Mylar pack for peaches and salmon. Where is the thin dimension aluminum sardine/herring tin that could then be used for additional metal materials, spearheads, fishing spear heads, pull ring (made into "3" fish hooks), pull tin lid made into a rolled edge and long razor-sharp cutting edge knife, cut out tiny needles/pins, ... tin for mirror .... I guess you could use mylar as a reflecting mirror hmmmpppfff! No barter items like chocolate or smokes. Only coffee/tea/sugar/milk substitute, peanut butter/jam, lemon drink(s), spices, sauces, cookie, and chewing gum. Good matches, but no burning fuel, unless you use paper towel -woof! Big flame "woof," no tinder, must gather than to make hot bread, hot salmon, hot peaches. Where was that self-rehydrating fiber dinner plate hidden in the meal packet? Hehehehe.
thanks for an interesting, thorough assessment sir. do you know where that MRE can be purchased and how much it costs? also, I saw Emmy of emmymadeinjapan do a review of a Japanese MRE with pork which she said was really good and I'd like to buy those as well. Do you know where citizens can buy these items? thank you and regards.
I've had an IMP before and that bread IS good! I do NOT like U.S. MRE snack breads. They have a funky after taste. The U.S. did produce this bread at one time and put them in a brown foil MRE pack like your accessory packets used to come in and it was a treat when I got it in the field. I got a few packs of it at ROTC summer camp many years ago. I would imagine that this bread probably doesn't last as long in storage as the newer stuff does, but you're right, the IMP bread's flavor leaves OUR MRE bread in the dust.
Wow, Paul is going to be pumped up with a shout out from the one and only Gundog. And I can see a T-shirt with "IMP Guru" in the works. We live in the same area of BC. Great review. Nice to see our troops eating well. The bearpaws are a nice treat to remind them of home. Best of luck with the new job!
Its amazing how many people don't like the Salmon IMPs.. Its my favourite, simply because its the easiest to put down cold. Tastes just as good cold as it does heated. Can't say the same for the rest of the IMPs.
4:31 Salmon Filet. Ingredients: Salmon and salt. It doesn't get much better than that, as far as getting what you expect. In a salmon MRE, if you can get MREs with salmon, it'd probably have over 10 ingredients, many of which sound like things from the periodic table. I doubt the IMP would last as long as an MRE, but I dare say it'd be tastier and healthier :P As for Bear Paws, apparently they're kind of a big thing in Alberta, but while growing up in Newfoundland, I never even heard of them. Different cultures. 6:11 HAH! Jeff Dunham, I remember when he was big, didn't expect to hear a sound clip of him, especially in a vid made so recently. Glad to hear the Canadian rations are so good! Shame about the coffee, but I love how everything seems more geared towards enjoyability rather than making it last 5+ years.
I've had both breads and I tend to steer clear of them. The imp has almost raisin bread and I don't really like it. The mre bread is sometimes mouldy and very dry. I like to have tortillas with jam and peanut butter.
Glad you had better luck with this one lol! Johnathan and I enjoyed watching as usual. I am keeping my eyes open for another few for us to try. Kep 'em coming! Ted O.
@@gundog4314 I noticed that in Candian and British/UK rations - they keep changing it up. I also like that! Though sometimes it makes it tough to predict what exactly will be in the ration I ordered until I open it. Surprise!
Somehow after watching a number of IMP reviews, I just get this feeling that the United States owes it's servicemen a proper meal. Man, the only thing that the standard MRE wins over the IMP right now is that it comes with a FRH.
+Trevor Stewart if you check into mreinfo.com and look up "laughingman" he may be able to help you locate some of these rations since he is in Japan as well. Cheers
Mine may be earlier, or later than you'res. I do not have a maple leaf, nor does it say " IMP ", Also, the lettering is green, not black on mine. No date anywhere that I can find. Do you have a guess as to the era by my description? I find it strange that there isn't a best before date on outside of bag.
That's OK, I'm glad I stumbled on to you're videos, which I do enjoy. It has inspired me to gain more info on the subject. As long as you are willing to put you're stomach to the test, I'm able to see what is inside of many of these ration packs that I may never come across. Keep up the good work, and thanks for you're comments.
All MRE's and IMPs are precooked because usually in combat, soldiers can't always cook, so these meals are precooked so that you can either warm it up or eat it cold if your on the run and can't warm the entrees up
+Lyz Mack I know, big difference in "sampling" and "eating". I rarely eat everything and 75% of the time it goes in a container and snacked on over the week. Bad stuff goes right to the disposal. Cheers
In the video you mentioned that now you're the boss, work related obviously. And as far as I know you're the Obi-wan of ration reviews, not The Boss, cause she's KiwiDude's daughter.

Bear paws, whether your going to school or into the combat zone, you'll never go without a tasty snack.
I love this comment to much XD
true XD
Maypotim I wish we had them in the US!!!
This was one of my fav IMPs when I was up north training. I got 2 boxes of these things now sitting around for when the zombies come lol. Great vid!!
Cheers langdog!
If you place the bread, while still sealed in its package, in the boiling water you are heating the entree in it comes out a bit softer and fluffier.
Nice to that the troops of my country are feed well and with seemingly delicious food

One failing with our IMPs is the spoons are prone to breaking. I always used the brown ones from US MREs.

I'm glad you didn't end up spilling anything. Though if you had spilled some fish into the peaches, it would have become the next big MRE inside joke.

Lucky Canadiens.
Thank you for the review.

MizHigh IMP Guru tee shirt you say,..... lol. Let me get a few more subs and views before I take that title terribly seriously.

Its amazing how many people don't like the Salmon IMPs.. Its my favourite, simply because its the easiest to put down cold. Tastes just as good cold as it does heated. Can't say the same for the rest of the IMPs.
Pro tip: fold the rice or instant potato bag at the fill line. It'll put a score mark on the inside of the bag so you know how much water to add.
+cdnarmymedic Pro tip, level expert
+gundog4314 This likely speaks to the sheer volume of IMPs I've consumed in the last 20+ years.
+cdnarmymedic Just noticed this comment thread, good basic tip, I will try that next time I get the chance.

Congrats to the young Marine from an old Marine. Glad to see the positive attitude in all this.
John Lord I already ordered my "Proud Uncle of a US Marine" shirt! Semper Fi John
Were do I get one of these trays??
+Gunjiro X I got mine from ebay. Just type in sectioned trays and some should pop up. Cheers
Hey gundog I was wondering is it recommended to get MREs from Amazon or should I get them some place else?
ever notice the drinks are always lemon or lime or exotic never strawberry or apple, never really any variety
Next time you and IMP you try run water over the bag and see if the contents get wet.
The bread is supposed to be heated in its bag and it puffs right up and is infinitely better than straight outta the bag.
+pnzrdvr I'll try that the next time I get bread in an IMP. Cheers!
im glad us Canadians do MRE bread the right way lol
+parnmkie i know the american wheat snack bread tastes like plastic XD
Freddy Fazbear one day i hope i can try some of both ^-^
+parnmkie Pretty sure most of the Canadian and American MREs are made by the same company
I've had both breads and I tend to steer clear of them. The imp has almost raisin bread and I don't really like it. The mre bread is sometimes mouldy and very dry. I like to have tortillas with jam and peanut butter.
Wow, now I wish I was Canadian... Sadly, I'm an American... D:
You had one job mate. Coffee w/ honey. One Job Mate! Good video keep the videos coming. And thanks that you liked Canada's IMPs.
thanks for talking about me :) i appreciate it have a good meal
Glad to see you back !! Keep up the great work friend. Another informative review. Peace, Magnum, John.
The box is brown because in Canada most the materials are recycled, even the bags at Mc Donalds are brown lol!
Or Macdonalds bags are brown to eh.
Glad you had better luck with this one lol! Johnathan and I enjoyed watching as usual. I am keeping my eyes open for another few for us to try. Kep 'em coming!
Ted O.
sk8r28 Cheers Guys!
Really well done. It is nice seeing someone take the time to try it all out. In the field we usually eat it cold and just get it into us.
Same with us, in fact we usually dumped everything in the main pouch, mixed it together and chowed down. Cheers
salmon holy crap i want to get me some of it to try how MRE salmon tastes like
Ah nice, I wondered where all the MRE'ers has gone! Kiwi Dude and gschultz9 have vanished!
KainTLA Yep, life has a way of taking over from time to time. They'll be back!
gundog4314
Yep, tell me about it. Real life sucks at times lol!
Salmon was the first Canadian IMP I ever tried, a decade ago. The salmon in mine was indeed an intact one piece fillet. It was delicious.
I am rather fond of the way they try new things more often than the US.
@@gundog4314 I noticed that in Candian and British/UK rations - they keep changing it up. I also like that! Though sometimes it makes it tough to predict what exactly will be in the ration I ordered until I open it. Surprise!

even in WW2 USA had the best rations in the world!
Mres are good too, I like the cheesy potatoes or the ratatouille.
Did anyone else notice that at 22:20 the little bug crawling in the salmon right before he soaked it up with bread and ate it?
Isabella Santiago That's just more protien lol
Too cute and funny!
Isabella Santiago I thought so to, had to put the video on the big screen and saw it was just a flake of seasoning floating by.
Excuse me Ma'am I am almost positive that it is a piece of seasoning, I can see where you got the bug Idea from though XD
Isabella Santiago Very well spotted !
That bread must have been a pain to eat lol
Nice ringtone Gundog I like it
@gundog4314 I must Ask where you get the IMP because I want one SOOOO bad
Thanks, Nick
posted my vid of the Salmon meal over the last weekend, got the inspiration to do it from this video, it was really quite good, thanks Gundog!
Great job sir, keep up the great work
Surprised there is no margarine. Does it not keep well?
Nice job
Hey Gundog, I wonder if you will be doing MREs from Asian countries like Singapore, Japan, Korea etc?
ImpulseNerd I have one from Singapore and a few more from Japan but have been so busy lately. i will get to them soon I promise.
gundog4314 Nice, can't wait for those. Thanks for replying!

To pour to the fill line, you fold the bag on the fill line and look at the crease on the inside.
+Skogula So simple and easy it's genius. CHEERS!
I like the white packaging that can be seen from a distance. Very good idea.
+tyler durden I guess it would work good for when it snowed lol
Sure because when terrorists are looking for military they always try to locate the white packages and not the soldiers who are holding them.
In Canada most of the distance is covered with white snow.If you see any yellow snow, don't taste it or eat it. e it or eat it. .
what do u do now job wise
Did you here the guy saying silence?
Go ahead!! why thank you, I believe I will. cheers!
where do you buy all these?
People send him these.....you can try Amazon or Ebay though :)
When I did basic in 2012 the salmon was infamous for being disgusting. I was lucky and never got it and I hear they changed the recipe shortly after.
I dont know why but the phone going off scared me. But great vidio as always.
"Why can't we use these, NATIC?" Indeed... looks like good bread. Also an awesome, healthy meal. Dan
+Daniel Taylor We used to have bread like that when I was in. We saved all our peanut butter and jellies to make PB&Js. A real treat in the field!
Real Life happens. We understand.
Is a civilian able to purchase these and if so, how? (I live in Canada)
eBay or Amazon their good 5 years after the date (imp 13s are good til 2018)
Mine may be earlier, or later than you'res. I do not have a maple leaf, nor does it say " IMP ", Also, the lettering is green, not black on mine. No date anywhere that I can find. Suicide is...breadless o_O ?
Do we also have MRE's?
Only cadets eat mres our servicemen/women eat imps.
Great review, love salmon. Looking forward to more:)
I miss that bread sooooooo much!
the clip is handy but in the battlefield we use the toothpick :) if u have one of course
it seems the flea also likes the salmon...
why dont u give the mre's and stuff ratings out of 5 or 10
XD dammit why did my last name have to be whitener I keep saying what everytime he mentions whitener.
Diluted espresso is an americano :)
please tell me the whole meat got eaten and not just thrown away?
It only takes five minutes to "cook" the salmon? I wonder if it was precooked. It looks delicious, nonetheless.
All MRE's and IMPs are precooked because usually in combat, soldiers can't always cook, so these meals are precooked so that you can either warm it up or eat it cold if your on the run and can't warm the entrees up
idk why a Brazilian girl (me) are watching this by fun. lol
