I use hand gestures a LOT when I'm talking. It actually helps my mind stay a little more organized. I like the tip to have distance between you and the camera so your hand gestures don't invade your listeners space.
It is interesting to see how much hand gestures can really add to a speech, especially because nonverbal signals can play a huge part in our communication. I will definitely try to keep these tips in mind for future speeches or just in general when communicating.
Leaning about two convesations happening changed my perspective of approaching a speech. I belive i downplayed my speech deliverance wiht lack of gestures but learning if my spoken mesagge and body language are more aligned the audience will lean more into the speech.
Body language is so important! Lacking gestures seem to make you look like a robot. I believe the eyes speak before words. Great topic, Riaz, thank you!
Thank you Riaz! This video was much needed. It is very important to be aware of your gesture and body language. Thank you for the tips! Cant wait to put it to use:)
I just found your channel and read several books on body language and love videos like this but your the first channel I found like this. Glad I found you brother.
Daniel, welcome to the channel. Awesome to have you here. Given your curiosity on the topic, let me know if you have any specific ideas you'd want to see covered on the channel. Great to have you here.
I found this so helpful and important to know for my future speech as to really pay attention to my hand gestures and body language. I know how important it is for a speech or any presentation. I also liked the gesture precedes conscious thought. You had so much good advice and tips, thank you.
Thank you for this video! Body language is always so helpful when speaking in front of an audience and really makes it seem like you have a deeper connection with the audience. Connecting to those you are speaking to always helps intrigue the audience!
Great insight on how beneficial hand gestures and body language can be in an overall speech. Some of the gestures you suggested, such as compare and contrast, amplify the speaker's delivery and give a sense of authenticity. Definitely learned some new gestures to use in my future speeches.
I've never really put much thought into body language and my presentations. But looking back to my communications class, body language is so incredibly important. These are definitely some great tips and something I'll be more mindful of now!
One of my favorite tv shows was Lie To Me...I've actually learned the truth about someone lying by watching their micro-expressions. Fascinating stuff. Author Donald Miller says to show your hands at the beginning of a presentation because it shows the audience you're safe. Great video content. Learning and applying, Riaz!!
I'm a sponge when it comes to learning more about body language. I just came across Roger Love, the voice coach. So important as we push ourselves out using video. Love this. :) Great to learn from you Riaz.
@@RiazMeghji I agree. I relay what I"m learning to my kids...and they continue to roll their eyes a bit...but one day, they'll thank me. :) Thank you very much for the welcome and the encouragement!
I'm going to have to do some big fundraising soon, so this was really valuable for me because I want to get the point across of how important this work is.
Great video! I talk with my hands all the time so it's super helpful to have this info. I'm going to be conscious of this when I record my next video. 👍
Second comment ... one of the things I've noticed I do when I'm delivering information that might be controversial or hard to hear is touch my sternum/throat area subconsciously ... need to catch that and shift my hand to my heart.
SOOOO helpful! I have now "clicked the bell icon" for you, my man! I still ponder your video about introducing someone - I have an online conference coming up in September. ❤🙏
These are so practical and so effective! (also life and death decision on recording or watching the Raptors live!) Great point on invading personal space on screen too.
I always love your videos Riaz, my dad told me once that my hand gestures are distracting and I shouldn't move them around so much.... :( Is he correct?
Mallory! So good to see you here. Well if your dad is mentioning it, your audience is telling you something is off. You have a sample size of one with this opinion. I'd ask around and see what your close friends have to say about it. Working in TV I learned to love criticism. Hard at first, but can serve us well long-term.
I believe we all pick up on the unsaid energy which comes through our body language. It conveys a lot more than our words. Lol, I’ve invaded my audience’s space accidentally before by using big gestures and being too close to the camera
Thanks Tertia. It’s so easy to invade the space virtually! Many of us have done it and don’t even realize it. We just need to do your meditation at the end of each day to keep our sanity :)
Ha! Good call. Going to be tough to PVR the games against the Celtics though. Big round coming up and putting my $$$ on the fact Lowry plays game 1. The guy is the heart and soul of the team!
Oooh this is so true. It's fascinating to watch the smallest details of how politicians move or the expressions they make as they present their speeches. Thanks Serena!

Thanks Sara. From one hand talker to another 👊🏾👊🏾....Awesome to have you back here.
did not know hand gesture and body language is a huge impact on a speech
I SO LOVE the hand on the heart instead of the hand shake.... such a great way to connect but also maintain social distance. Thanks Riaz.
Thank u! Always great to have you here Ally

It's not just what you say but how you say it matters too!
Absolutely brother!
Love looking at people and reading the messages from the gestures!
I'm with you on this one Yulia!

Body language sometimes has more 'volume' than your voice does! Loved your tips Riaz! Can't wait to try them out!
The truth! Thanks Marina.
Excellent content. I love the hand on heart gesture you mention. What a beautiful greeting. Thanks.
Hoping that hand over heart gesture becomes part of the 'new normal'. Thanks for checking out the video.
"Gesture precedes conscious thought." This is so important.
Agreed!
I think you're one of the best public speakers out there. Really. Great work!
Dana, thanks for the kind words. Do you think these tips will help you connect through the camera for future videos?
this is a great video and something me and my husband talk about all the time! Body language has more of an impact than people know. Great tips!!!

Great to hear this helps Sergei.
Super interesting! You don’t really think about invading others personal space over camera!
The virtual space is new for many. I think this factor about personal space virtually, is easy to overlook.
Gestures precede conscious thought -- great quote. Thanks for sharing, Riaz!
Agreed. Nick is a smart man. Thanks Will!
Nonverbal signals make up a huge part of daily communication. The things we don't say can still convey volumes of information!
The truth!
In my culture, Kurdish, we do the hand over heart as a greeting 🥰❤️ I loved that you used that as an example!
Love this gesture. Hope it becomes a thing.
This is so important!! Gestures share everything about us. What a great video Riaz
Thanks Carina. Our Gestures are like our ‘tell all book’!

Great video!👏💕 I have seen speakers use gestures. I have always wondered if they had some sort of guidelines or rulebook. This video was very helpful.
Awesome to have you here Lindsay. Thanks for the feedback.
This is very interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Seah!
Great advice. I need to go back and check out my videos. I love the “Gesture precedes conscious thought” statement. Thanks Riaz!
Thanks Daryl. I thought the same when I heard those words for the first time.
Love Your Clothes, Riaz !!! Love that Shirt ! What a great video, as always ! Distance -- So interesting- I have to watch that ! Thanks !!!
Ha. Go Raps! Thanks Eli. Keep that energy coming on screen.

Awesome feedback. #WeTheNorth - always :)
Amazing! I always wondered if my hand gestures were a good or bad thing haha!
Thanks Tanya. If they match your words, I'd say it's a good thing.
Ah brilliant! This is such useful information about gestures (I use SO many!) so it was really helpful to check in :-)
Awesome to have you back here Lara. Thank u
Wow! Those are great tips! I like the idea of leaving a space with the viewer. Thanks for sharing. See you around :-)

You're always so insightful! I need to get a lot more practice on non-verbals. I always look so nervous lol
Thanks Yuki. Let me know I can support in any way. Happy to help.
Riaz.. wish your camera/Webcam was a little bit away from you so we can see your hands when you are still gesturing below the frame
