This episode met all criteria. Good cast of characters, Mario not being a manchild, and it was funny!
I’m glad this season’s off to a good start. I hope the characterization of characters such as Super Mario remain consistently in-character and for the series to get experimental, as in, give characters that didn’t appear much in recent years/seasons more chances to shine.
I also really hope for this year’s WOTFI to be a one-off and not be part of an arc.

Mario was trying to be responsible for ones, and wasn't tempted by the first attempt, trying to stick to his original and sound plan. But was over again tempted by swag to poor decisions. It's neat.

This video feels like a old SMG4 Episode! The Simplistic Idea turned into a ridiculous and complicated episode is a great way to start the year! I'm excited to see what story arcs we'll have in 2023!

SMG4, thank you for always bringing smiles and happiness with your funny, wholesome, dark, and entertaining videos. It’s always a fun time watching Mario do wacky things. Your videos have been a big part of my life since 2016 and it's astounding and incredible to see how much you and Kevin have grown through this channel, through GLITCH productions, and through us, the fans. I still dream of touring GLITCH productions someday.
My grandmother passed away peacefully last week and it has been excruciating mentally for my family and me. She was the only grandparent I had left, so not having grandparents anymore was a very hilly endeavor. However, as I look back on your arcs, they reminded me of not only the powerful heartbreak of loss and death, but also for every loss, we grow up and become stronger, just like Meggy and Melony did. Those moments have inspired me to keep moving forward and take bigger strides each day.
Speaking of Meggy, ever since her first debut in “If Mario Was in Splatoon”, she is and always will be my favorite character. My friends made me a big clay animatez statue of her and a paper scrap picture of her that's framed and hanging in my window. I wish I could show you. She always inspires me to be courageous, have fun, and do my best every day. I hope your character arcs and stories continue to make me a better human being and inspire others to do the same as well, even with all the memes.
Thank you for this wonderful universe you've created. Thank you for always being by our side. I look forward to all the fun episodes you have planned for us this year. May my grandmother rest in peace with the rest of her family. I wish everyone a blessed 2023.

I personally don't agree that the "old style" is necessarily back. The Guards seemed to have lost a lot of their old personality in this video.

This was a good start to SMG4's 2023!
Everyone felt right in this; Swag and Chris were hilarious as always, and while he's still a little silly, Mario was written pretty well! I definitely like this "silly but competent" personality more than the "manchild" one from past episodes. And the payoff of Luigi using his new phone to save Mario. Phenomenal.
That being said, the "sponsor" segment with SMG4 felt awkward and didn't have any real payoff. Maybe the Shrek game could have been a part of the "phone" Mario ends up buying? But I like that it continues the gag of SMG4 talking to the wall. I also feel like the subplot of Swag and Chris could have been expanded on. Maybe they could have driven the episode competing for Employee of the Month a la Spongebob? But I guess that's the magic of SMG4; you can't always predict what's gonna happen.
Overall, this episode was solid! Another great one for the "mundane made chaotic" collection.

I don't know what sort of arc would come from the Door to Darkness, but who knows. Maybe a follow-up.

This was an awesome start to 2023 for your channel SMG4 as just the video itself along with dynamic of Mario, SwagMaster, and Chris is what really makes the video funny. As I think we can all agree that it's going to be a great video when the plot is centered around something going on with Mario, SwagMaster, and Chris. But love the way it feels like Mario became an avenger in this video wearing the hulkbuster suit to fix the mistake he unintentionally made and then made the door aliens on Mars go extinct also unintentional. As overall I give this video a 8/10 as I'm trying to get better with my criticism as apart of my new years resolution and to help with script writing. But I'm hyped to see what this year has in store for both SMG4 and GLITCH! :)

Honestly I don’t think they’ve had consistently good episodes for a long time after meggy was introduced, sure there have been good episodes, but none of the charm of the old videos especially as they’ve started using sm64 less and less, it’s more of a gmod channel than a sm64 channel

Id argue that some of those episodes were good and funny but a lot of it didnt hold any meaning. This was meant to be a series but it had 0 progression. I like arcs and love movies but in 2019-2022, I think we have some amazing videos, some shitties and many average
And it’s sad for me to watch less utilisations of funnies characters like Bowser or Toad, even for modern… Anti-Cast and Shroomy haves not big appareances, Tari misses many episodes since Meta Runner ends (and for the moment, no developpment since Waluigi arc) and Melony isn’t here also since Cosmology Lore ends
Wotfi is different now too… Others characters doesn’t matter for me and rap battles are really amazing since 2021 but I have a problem with Good vs Bad team (2018 is an exception apart the final challenge but 2020 is Smg4’s Cast (Good) vs Anti-Cast (bad), 2021 is Smg4’s Cast also vs Mari0 (bad) and 2022 is Nintendo characters (bad) vs Smg4’s original characters (Good) )
The only bad moments for SMG4 were back in mid 2018 before If Mario Was In Baldi’s Basics came out, and right after the lawsuit arc, in my opinion, the ITS GOTTA BE PERFECT movie has FULLY revived the channel
