They should have had Tom Selleck make a cameo as the governor, implied that he was Thomas Magnum, but never explicitly stating that he was Thomas Magnum.

John Taylor saw the trailers of the MPI reboot... Not really loving it... Weak attempt and too much flashy blow 'em up persona... Tom Selleck himself didn't like what he saw, saying 'Magnum fans won't stand for it'... I have to agree... And he won't make a cameo in it at all. Which leads to say, Hawaii 5-0 have a better chance of him making an appearance on their show... I favor of wanting that to happen.
Sad to say, CBS cancelled Magnum Pi in April 2022, due to unspecific reasons, as the show was holding well in the ratings, but there were signs the show was having problems, one notably writer/producer Peter Lenkov was fired due to dictating, unsettling conditions on the set, and having an exclusive-like ‘Men’s Club’ group in the production. Which established it as fiction in their story line as well, so how is he a real "person" in Hawaii 5.0s "reality" ... Hmmmm ... As much as I love these shows continuity errors galore... When DiNozzo uttered those words it killed it for me... I was hoping Selleck would stumble into a case Steve was on because they were connected and original Magnum would teach him a few new tricks...

Imagine the in-jokes they could come up with if Blue Bloods did a crossover w/ the new Magnum P.I.. Too bad Scorpions got the axe. Wouldn't a MacGyver--Scorpions crossover have been fun?
As far as it was known, the producers of Magnum Pi thought of having Jack Lord (the original Steve McGarret) make a cameo appearance, as now and then he and 5-0 were mentioned in some rare moments on the show, but nothing of that had ever came out from that. ( the only acceptions were some Local celebrity extras known in Hawaii: Jimmy Borges, Doug Mossman, Kimo Kahoano, Carol Kai). If it did, that would've been historically awesome!

Yeah but this episode was both shot and showed on TV, was at least a couple of years before they greenlit the Magnum reboot
