Mitsubishi Advertised range is 84 km EV range
52 miles EV Range!!! in New Zealand & Australia, for the new Outlander PHEV. .
We got 7 people (5 Adults and 2 large Teenagers). Mother n law in the back, she loved it.
Outlander PHEV has similar V8 power 450 newton meters of torque but uses no petrol most days in EV mode. Awesome SUV!

Charging range fluctuates everyday. We got 100 km range but other days it was 98km, 87km 84km, then 94 km.
Depends on "do you feel lucky today"
It has V8 power which is fun but scares the shit out of the kids. But when you go to Jail time speeds over 140kph it turns into a medium 4 cylinder to 200kph.

This review highlights that plugin hybrids benefit from the improvement in battery technology. With 20kWh battery the range covers most urban driving quietly and without smog. The larger battery is also capable of a higher peak output, and this review indicates that the battery has sufficient peak output to power electric acceleration in most normal daily driving.

Please don’t compare with Found On Road Dead lol. Just bought the 40th edition as I have to say there is no other comparison in an overall package, let me say I was looking from Toyota’s through Mercedes and ended up with this vehicle. We can nitpick certain qualities but Mitsubishi being made in Japan, reliably, high end luxuries it’s a no brainer. One thing I would say is it took me about a month to learn how to drive this vehicle in all modes and am pleasantly surprised on how this is such a bargain ! Let’s say I leave my GX460 just to hop in this one :)

By far better fuel economy, where I think the new gen phev outlander takes it out right and still offering more than enough acceleration power on the road.
I just drove a bmw x6 twin turbo the other day, boi was that thing thirsty on the motorway. And broke down on me and went on limp mode because the high pressure fuel pump went faulty.

Great unbiased review , mitusbishi should have not gone with 20" wheels. I think they should have gone with 17" and more tire wall. 20 inch rims are never good on rough roads. Going with a smaller rim size would have also improved acceleration as well.
The outlander phev has a factory 0-100 acceleration of 8.2 seconds but when tested in the real world it does 0-100 in 7.9 seconds exceeding mitusbishi factory numbers.
The drive train in the outlander phev is also pure mitusbishi, it does not use any of nissan power train in the phev version. The eclipse cross and outlander phev are pure Mitsubishi.

If the electric motors alone are rated at 185 kw (85kw front / 100kw rear), does the ICE not add any power in parallel hybrid mode? In the RAV4 Prime, the electric motors alone are about 174kw (134kw front / 40kw rear) though total rated output is 225kw. So, 51kw from ICE in parallel hybrid mode.

The big question here, is return on investment. For $16,000 more than the petrol version, how many klms do you need to drive before you break even with the petrol version. The answer, as provided by engineer and car expert John Cadogan, is between 60-70k klms (based on using EV mode as much as practicable). That's the point when most car owners change their vehicle anyway over on a 5yr loan. So unless you intend to operate the car many years beyond that, you will lose on depreciation because of battery degradation. So where is the return on investment on the extra $16,000....interesting question isn't it 🤔

The PHEV is a different car to the petrol version in terms of handling and performance. Its like saying what's the return in investment between the regular Tiguan and Tiguan R. If you're worry about return on investment, then a 2010 Honda Fit is the better choice, gets you from A to B without spending so much money.

    • @backwoodsbungalow9674
      @backwoodsbungalow9674 Рік тому

The 16k premium sounds excessive. Nevertheless, the fuel savings will be over the lifetime of the vehicle which is much more than 70k km. The first owner will see that reflected in the resale value, so the eye watering premium for the PHEV might not be daft even for the first owner.

Fair point but consider that the fuel savings will be over the lifetime of the vehicle. The first owner should see that reflected in the resale value. Hence the extra depreciation cost compared to the gas guzzling version might not be daft compared to the fuel savings, even for the first owner.

I have a 2020 Outlander Phev. The EV range is around 40km. The engine only comes on if you really rev it or need the heater in winter which sucks. I have driven over 3000km b4 on one tank due to free charging at work & shopping centres. A warning light came on saying to add fuel to prevent damage to fuel system / prevent the fuel going off.

Total bullshit range claims, you wont get 1000kms on a tank, you will get if your VERY lucky maybe 600ish kms range and it drinks fuel ie 8 to 9 L per hundred. I have NO idea how they can claim 1.3l/100kms unless they only drive 100kms stop, fully recharge the battery and claim the engine only used 1,3l in that single 100kms. Because if for example you do lets say a normal aussie drive of 400kms it Is SO inefficient. 9l per 100... sure its less than the petrol. But thats normal petrol suv ALSO the actual range depends of the battery depends on temperatures etc so you wont always get 83kms range, expect 60 to 90 if your lucky while new. They should have ditched the two useless rear seats that no one other than a legless paraplegic midget could use (seriously) and either put a bigger fuel tank or put extra batteries in that spot. Its absolutely stupid having those tow extra seats, you cant see out the rear with them up and if you do move the middle row up to give the leg room, then both rows need to be carrying midgets. Ie an teenage kid wont be comfortable and the access is atrocious to get in and out of there. If you have and accident, they aint getting out in a rush.
