So now one of the only big tech channels isn't going to cause these big companies to change much, unless we're lucky enough for the media to read between the lines of DF's analysis and actually pick up these stories (which almost never happens). At least Alex has the guts to call out devs more directly. Never see John, Richard, or Oliver really show any anger or annoyance even though it's totally warranted in this situation.

They also added the ability to remove ‘Cinematic Filters’ as well, which removes post processing effects like lens distortion and vignetting, among other things, and that also goes a long way to clean up the image as well. This is also available for base consoles as well as the Pro.
Exactly! And like I mentioned on my own comment; all developers seriously need to include these toggles in all games. Forcing Motion blur, chromatic aberration (which is horrible), film grain (even worse), and all those you mentioned is just plain ridiculous when a simple option to turn off or on should not be a difficult implementation. I applaud Ubisoft for being the first to backtrack and include the ability to select upscaling methods on the Pro.
I'm tired firing up a fresh DF video every time I play a game just to find out which mode is the best out of 6-8 options. Could they please just only release the modes that work well??
Even worse I have to check the date of the video and whether there were any patches since then. Let's say they dramatically improve PSSR in a month but still keep FSR option, then this video would be outdated and wrong.
Depends on the native resolution. Games that already had a good resolution look great. Games that were already upscaled greatly from a low resolution suffer badly. Their is just not enough for PSSR to work off without breaking down
Anything above 1080p seems to upscale really well on PSSR But these newer games just forgoing optimizations in favor of upscaling from 720p are suffering the most. I blame UE5 just being horrible in general.
@@Bankoru Well, that blame would be misguided to say the least. UE5 is ok as long as you take the time to optimize it for your needs and putting time in relieving those issues. There is definitely a problem creating a big open world game in UE5, but for one, there is a huge difference between i.e. UE5.0 and 5.4 etc, and the games coming with >5.0 versions will be better. A lot has happened with UE since 5.0. The more money/time you put into getting rid of the stutter issues etc. In essence... the engine is ok with amazing options to turn shit up but it has a huge cost in optimization time to get things running smooth-ish. CDPR will set a new UE standard tho... 100%. They will tweak the shit out of this heavy heavy engine and more will follow. If you want S-Tier visuals, there ain't no competition for smaller to medium size devs. It is just too fkn expensive(/impossible) to make an in house engine that rivals UE in any significant way tbh, stutters n all. Unless you are someone like Valve or similar with deeeeeep pockets and that exact mindset/goal. We are gonna have to accept that UE5 is what's gonna be fed to us, and keep complaining about performance until a good enough branch becomes mainstream or hardware catches up.
@@emilgustavsson7310 that's the problem though, optimization is a dying art among young devs as they increasingly slap together games with these lego engines and just "fix" the performance with upscaling tech. It's all downhill from here
Have a ps pro, not happy with the explosion in the number of modes. Whole thing was pitched as not needing to make a choice. One mode. The best one. Now there are 8 . . . .
@@psytkd nah, I got the pro for the extra options. Glad they added more! If your display doesn’t support VRR, then you def need to upgrade to enjoy PRO.
More modes, more options > Treating the player like they are dumb and don't know anything about rendering or what they're eyes prefer. Devs need to trust their players' intelligence, both in terms of settings and gameplay to ensure higher quality products (which both these games actually do offer with non-guided gameplay modes as new Ubi titles have and the graphics modes look like a step in the right direction for console gamers).
Cinematic Camera OFF and PSSR ON looks fantastic in every mode. FSR is straight up broken with HDR on, banding on everything. Cinematic Camera being toggled off and PSSR ON makes this whole game look great.
I think most consumers, including myself who got or will get a PS5 Pro (Professional being the key word), are ready and capable to understand and work with all these toggles and graphical options. ALL developers need to do this with their games. They have to stop babysitting the niche market for the Pro. We need all the options so we can choose what we prefer or know to be best. I prefer PSSR in some games and FSR in others. Alan Wake 2 also just got the update. I emailed Insomniac the first week the PS5 Pro released, pointing the PSSR issue with image softness and got completely ignored. Spider Man 2 looked so much better without PSSR... At least this gives me hope.
Respectfully disagree, at least in these two cases. FSR3 in these games is clearly superior. That makes the PSSR reconstruction technique as an alternative superfluous. It ads unnecessary complexity to the slew of graphical modes, with no obvious benefit. Choice is only interesting when its meaningful.
@@mhjmstultiens Completely understand your perspective. However, as horrendous as PSSR might be in these two particular games, it looks sharper in motion, and maybe there might be ONE or FIVE consumers who got a PS5 Pro who like a sharper image in motion. Those consumers have the OPTION to select whatever they like most, which is the point of my comment. Developers should give us all the options regardless of what they think should be forced on us, and we choose. Take Spider Man 2 as an example, it looks temporally more stable with PSSR, but blurrier. I prefer a sharper image and sacrifice the minor temporal artifacts. Insomniac is forcing Pro users with the new modes using PSSR, and that I do not appreciate. However, in these two games, I would use FSR since the sharper image is not worth all the other issues PSSR creates. Choice doesn't hurt, it adds. And that is what we who paid $700 should get. Simply the choice.
@@ChayaneRuizTorres I believe it's too simple to say choice doesn't hurt, it adds. There are many cases known where presenting more choice doesn't ad anything at all, it just makes situations unnecessary complex, even hurting the decision proces. Again: when the choice is meaningful, I don't mind. So from what I gather the choice in your case obviously is meaningful. Less so from my perspective. I have my gaming PC with dozens of settings. My console is my plug-and-play machine. Hence I don't necessary need that many choices on that platform. Certainly not more than the relatively clear resolution versus performance mode(s). So developer: present me your best two or three modes so I can start gaming as quickly as possible without aggrandizing over too many settings in menus. This approach isn't necessary better or worse. It's just a different viewpoint and I'm guessing it depends heavily on how much time you'd like to spend tinkering with your hardware/software to get the best results.
@@mhjmstultiens I agree with you and all your points as well. It is difficult to please everybody at all times. And with providing choice to a market who knows, or is supposed to know what they are purchasing, it gives everyone the opportunity to not feel forced to certain settings. Looking into it from your perspective, consumers would have the option to purchase a regular PS5 and not have to worry too much with deciding settings, but with a PS5 Pro, we are getting into more intricacies willingly and knowingly. I am just encouraging developers to add and not restrict brother. Thats all. Cheers and Merry Christmas btw.
I think game developers should start giving the user the ability to adjust the games settings to their liking. Like have three pre sets created by the devs and have a fourth mode called custom were that basically unlocks all the games settings and let's the user define their own settings to their liking like how you can on pc.
I am a brand new player to the avatar game on ps5 pro and the default was quality 60 with FSR3 on boot and I believe this is the correct way to go on a VRR display and performance 60 for non VRR. The other modes can all be deleted lol.
Im glad that i can play Star wars on the highest settings in Full HD without upacaling on my pc with a pretty good 60 FPS. Looks great and plays good. Hope that the devs can fix image quality on console.
interestingly I've found that even on PC XeSS works significantly worse than FSR in Avatar. Which I find usually to be the opposite. I think it's mostly that FSR somehow works really well in Avatar so maybe there's something about the implementation that favors non machine learning based solutions
PS5 Pro is such a clusterfuck now. The job was actually simple: No more choice necessary between "graphics" and "performance" necessary. Always 60 fps plus a considerable better IQ as base PS5 at performance mode. Sounds not unfair to ask for for a eyewatering 920 EUR. Now we got PSSR artifacts, a blurry image and even more compromised modes.
It's even funnier when you realise they probably could have just swapped out the AMD GPU for an equivalent Nvidia one, kept the price roughly the same and used DLSS 3 to get better results.
But that didn't mean non 1st party studios were going to pump more development costs into games that released prior to the PS5 Pro and do a good job in doing so. Clearly Ubisoft just threw these updates out and then had to actually do some work in getting their games running better and I feel if PlayStation sent out their devs to these studios to work on proper patches that we would have way better updates on the PS5 Pro.
I don't mind a graphics and performance mode. As long as the pro performance mode is the base quality version in 60fps and a pro quality mode with even more graphical fidelity (on 30 fps).
@@fcukugimmeausernameNVIDIA doesn’t have a similar SoC as AMD right now. The last SoC from NVIDIA has been for the Switch and the next one is probably gonna be for the Switch 2. Sony wouldn’t invest in a new chip just for a mid-gen refresh.

On gt7 pssr has artifacts so looks better off but i got my pro for vr which has some nice improvements so im pleased with it.if you are a flatscreen gamer i dont think i can recommend it
The problem is not with PSSR, it's with the developer, who can't make the game they've already made compatible with PSSR. Let's take a look at The Last of Us and we can understand this.
its understanding atm it cannot handle much next gen type games that are out now & games that was made for the ps4 but have a native ps5 version definitely looks & runs great tho on the pro also most unreal engine 4 game's as well. & Hopefully in a year or so it will get way better (fingers crossed) im rooting for the future of the pro , i do hope it blossems into something fully awesome!!!
PSSR is in its infancy. FSR and DLSS used to suck ass too. It needs time to mature. Some developers clearly know how to utilize it better than others, too.
i wish you guys would add a PC sample in your comparisons as well because we got 4060 guys on here thinking what they're seeing on their PC is superior.
I had to switch to PSSR vs fsr… the colors in sky were color banding? PSSR def better in my experience. Quality 60 PSSR is my lock for Outlaws! So thank goodness devs are not treating us like newbs… we want all the toggles!!
I am still convinced that the devs are to blame for this mess. PSSR is doing well enough in the other titles, so it's more likely than not their inexperience or unwillingness to optimize the game and implement PSSR properly. Also, they basically said "screw you" and gave you the options to choose framerates and the quality yourself, even though that is definitely not what console gaming is supposed to be about.
It's kinda good that FSR returned: it benefits more devices including Ps5 (amateur), XBox, Steam Deck and none RTX 40 Series cards. Been like 90 hours in in Star Wars Outlaws, now in the endgame on XSX in Quality Mode.
I believe they leave the PSSR mode because as far as I understand the PSSR can be updated separately via the console firmware? So in future the PSSR toggle could look better I assume.
I know people love to blame Ubisoft for everything and sometimes they deserve it but not here. Both bloober team and Remedy have issues with PSSR too, it's Sony's upscaler, it isn't good enough yet.

This is pretty terrible stuff from Sony. One of the main selling points of the Pro was 60fps in Quality mode. Sony would have known in their own testing that PSSR wasn't even close and yet kept marketing it.
Dude everyone of these solutions including FSR started out crap. Pssr looks incredible in quite a few games. They are still working out the issues. These are the early days. At the end of the day, the work they are doing with the pro will translate to the ps6 so this is good stuff. Look at GT7 video and Horizon Forbidden West. Unbelievable stuff
But at the end of the day it's up to the developers of these games to implement the power of the PS5 Pro properly. If a developer just wants to throw out an update without fully doing testing on the performance then that should be against that studio and not PlayStation as a whole.

It’s definitely doing more than base console Performance Mode that’s for sure, but from what I can tell certain ray tracing features are removed in Quality Pro for lighting. Unsure if that is intended or not as it’s not made clear in the patch notes or the mode descriptions in game. One would assume that it should be ‘Quality Mode’ at 60 fps. But it is clearly not the case. Still looks better than Performance 60 though for sure. You’d be hard pressed to tell anything was missing unless you had side by sides though so it’s close enough.
Man I got a pro and I won't lie I'm very very underwhelmed... There's a few games that imo look great such as gt7/lou2/horizon games/ wich yes are all Sony games but also imo I think hogwarts looks really good but yes outlaws looks horrible in every way but it always has from launch anyway. My recommendation is do not buy a pro if your thinking about it... Wait about 6 months to a year and see what they do with it.
What's reason to wait if going to buy it anyways? It's still going to be the same price a year later, maybe $50 discount next Black Friday. At the same time I will probably sell my PS5 for $50 more now than a year from now.
So, now console players are expected to put up with all the nonsense that makes PC gaming a turn off. We want minimal choice, pick up and play. Next they will be offering an Afterburner overlay and we get to stare at that rather than play.
I think even with the pro these consoles aren’t really capable of high quality ray tracing and the trade off to get decent quality rt is just way too high. The low upscaled resolutions just looks bad and my only reason for buying a pro was the hope of getting rid of that to an extent. Just give me a sharp game with decent settings and I’ll take that every time over great looking reflections and the rest of the game being really blurry.
That’s not a Pro issue though as you can toggle it back to FSR with all the other resolution and performance upgrades in place. With this new patch it does look a lot better than base finally at least.
@@mandrews6282yeah I guess it’s a snowdrop scaling issue. There’s just not enough power left for the water, since it’s rendering is way too expensive for current gen console hardware so they had to dumb it way down which is clearly an engine design issue.
DLSS has a 5 year head start and was developed in conjunction with the hardware, whereas Sony had to make compromises (tiling) to get PSSR running on AMD work group processors. PSSR may never catch up with DLSS, but it could mature into the best console solution. Right now it's hit or miss.
@ what do you mean by „tiling“ ? Tiling the hardware or the viewport ? Afaik, PS5pro has some extra silicon for AI PSSR, so it’s different than FSSR and more like DLSS. Surely they can’t supersede DLSS, because NVIDIA isn’t standing still, but I hope they will be on par with recent DLSS 3.5. Avatar frontiers of Pandora should of been made by guerilla games look how good they made forbidden West look on a base ps5 imagine what they'd do with a pro version of avatar
Outlaws using PSSR with 30 frames per second "Quality mode," has high enough resolution (and stable framerate) to really shine. PSSR with higher resolution is fantastic. Outlaws was night and day different in terms of visuals, and my partner couldn't believe it was the same game, as earlier patches gave us, once we put it in Quality 30 using PSSR mode. As a PC tech enthusiast of three plus decades, that was the only mode that made Outlaws, on console, seem really impressive.
Not hard to do when you copy from a movie and the game isn't open world. Albeit the new Indy game is great though and we will see what the game will look like in the new year when it comes to the PS5/PS5 PRO. Also feel the performance of the Indy game seams a bit wonky but still serviceable.

Please stop this. I have to choose upscale? On a PlayStation? Why? Isn’t it the developers job to make the best game possible? Sorry, I’ll rephrase that: It’s the developers job to make the best game possible. On PC choice makes sense, because every PC is different and there are millions of combinations of graphics cards, CPUs and everything else. But on a console? All PS5s are the same. All Ps5 Pros are the same. Don’t make me sit and have to choose between advantages and disadvantages of various setting. What’s next? A game comes with a concept for gameplay and some drawings of the game world and a Coding For Dummies book so I can make the game myself just how I like it? Seriously - I pay for the developers to make those decisions, not to have to wade through countless choices myself. This is ridiculous.
PS5 Pro already slightly discounted in my country at some retailers. It says a lot… I thought I would upgrade my base PS5 to Pro immediately after launch but I think I’ll simply forgo „relaxed couch gaming”, sell both PS5 and XSX, and stick with my 4090 PC full time. The gap between high end comps and consoles has simply grown way too significant for my liking (again, this cycle kind of repeats itself).
It's the invention of the upscaling tech, not the hardware. It's a crutch that replaces good design and optimization, this whole gen of devs and those going forward aren't going to know those skills and just rely on upscaling AI. Your beloved PC platform isn't safe from it either.
@@dragons_red I realize that. Still, a good PC has enough sheer rendering power to overcome those upscaling woes to a certain extent. Also, not an nVidia shill by any means but DLSS is good enough not to taint games with many of those nagging issues PSSR or even FSR are plagued with.

Nope. Save yourself a few hundred and buy the base model with a disc drive. I’m pretty sure they can be found used for about 300-400 now vs $700 (no disc) for not that much better game play. People are upset that the next console is likely going to be modeled after the p5p meaning close to if not more than $700 and “major” performance increases locked behind AI that still needs to be optimized per game and developers currently don’t optimize the games they release to play consistently at 60fps with moderate settings at 1440p and 4k. That is what the console owners and buyers are upset about.
You’re crazy 😂😂😂 I just got the Sony Bravia 8 it’s a night & day difference. Sony can’t control 3rd party, buy the 1st & 2 second party is going to kill it.

Judging by how well the PS5 patch was implemented on forbidden West , stellar blade, GT7 to name a few . Comes down to the devs. This generation In general is wasn't good . How to many games came out half baked even from some AAA first and third party companies . PS5 PRO is a great product but not good timing considering the weird trend of unpolished games this generation . Next generation hardware won't fix this .
Maybe because UBI don't care about us gamers. They only want to sell games 🤷
Only Trash produceing since Rayman Legends 😁
@@emilgustavsson7310 that's the problem though, optimization is a dying art among young devs as they increasingly slap together games with these lego engines and just "fix" the performance with upscaling tech. It's all downhill from here
Have a ps pro, not happy with the explosion in the number of modes. Whole thing was pitched as not needing to make a choice. One mode. The best one. Now there are 8 . . . .

Wish they would have compared quality 60/40/30 to each other for us VRR folk. I really want to see how the quality changes in Avatar
Right, so what mode are most people playing in now? Trying to determine if there's enough of a visual difference to justify quality 40 vs quality 60
Another comment said "isn't the point removing the options". They are the perfect constituent.
40fps with PSSR is my favourite combination for both of these games
I think game developers should start giving the user the ability to adjust the games settings to their liking. Like have three pre sets created by the devs and have a fourth mode called custom were that basically unlocks all the games settings and let's the user define their own settings to their liking like how you can on pc.
The PS5 Pro feels like a game that was released too early.
The game still has issues with cloud rendering and DLSS.
So which to choose on PS5 PRO in that case ? Quality 40 or Quality 60 with FSR3 both ?
I am a brand new player to the avatar game on ps5 pro and the default was quality 60 with FSR3 on boot and I believe this is the correct way to go on a VRR display and performance 60 for non VRR. The other modes can all be deleted lol.
If you have a VRR display try quality 40 fps because the resolution is better than quality 60 and FSR 3
Found PSSR just was bafflingly bad on Avatar but I actually think PSSR looks quite a bit better on Outlaws and stuck with it after the patch.
Choices are not a problem. The problem is that they by making you decide they essentially they just abbandon fixing the PSSR mod and leave it as is.

Im glad that i can play Star wars on the highest settings in Full HD without upacaling on my pc with a pretty good 60 FPS. Looks great and plays good. Hope that the devs can fix image quality on console.
Outlaws and Avatar use fsr3... so did they use frame generation? I'm confused since fsr2 looked better in motion in those games.
interestingly I've found that even on PC XeSS works significantly worse than FSR in Avatar. Which I find usually to be the opposite. I think it's mostly that FSR somehow works really well in Avatar so maybe there's something about the implementation that favors non machine learning based solutions
“Say seven sizzling sausages sizzling in a sauce pot.”

I'm actually digging the 40 fps Quality Mode in Outlaws. Surprised they didn't even talk about it. Great compromise; game runs well and looks great.

I disagree with Olivery. Giving users FSSR only and not the option to turn on PSSR could be short sighted. It's still early days for PSSR.

@@mandrews6282yeah I guess it’s a snowdrop scaling issue. There’s just not enough power left for the water, since it’s rendering is way too expensive for current gen console hardware so they had to dumb it way down which is clearly an engine design issue.
Will PSSR be eventually on par with Nvidias DLSS ? Is it only a matter of more neuronal grid training?
DLSS has a 5 year head start and was developed in conjunction with the hardware, whereas Sony had to make compromises (tiling) to get PSSR running on AMD work group processors. PSSR may never catch up with DLSS, but it could mature into the best console solution. Right now it's hit or miss.

Don't buy Low quality games like this. it's incredibly how they evolving just backwards specially ubisoft and EA.
Wish I never pre ordered frontiers of pandora on the seriesx when it came out, can't stand that fsr bs
Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like Avatar is pushing any graphics boundaries with PS5 PROFESSIONAL on my 65'' QN95A. It looks ok..., but distracting LOD pop-in (plus the image quality issues) doesn't take it past Forbidden West experience on PS5 amateur. Sure, the map is bigger, but graphically I was kind of expecting more (from 40fps mode). I guess a monster PC is still a way to go for true eye candy.
Me interesa un monton esa basura que vendieron como que era una 4070 jajaaj menos mal que por menos dinero en un mes tengo una 5070ti
The Pro is an upgrade…not an update. If you have a PS5, then don’t buy one. What is it with all these people whining about? I don’t have a PS5, so my option would be buying the Pro rather than base.
Stop glazing sony
the problem is not the pro, this studio is garbage. of course the pro and PSSR is a clear upgrade. but these games just sucks
I'm glad that you're happy paying the Concord Tax. We need more people like you who will subsidize future consoles!
Basically, still not really fixed and still not worth buying.
DLSS > TSR > XeSS > FSR > PSSR lol
I wouldn't take these games as an example of what's possible... even in the short life cycle of PSSR.
Ubisoft should remove PSSR option from both these games.
PSSR is great in some of the games, but here it makes only troubles and anti-advertisement for the technology.
bruh sony should have just ported xess coz it looks as good as dlss and can already be used in any game that supports dlss . you can even swap xess to any game that supports dlss on pc .
feels more like ps5 amateur (amateur is the opposite of professional you see 😄)
nice stuff
The video thumbnail pretty much sums up this channel
Judging by how well the PS5 patch was implemented on forbidden West , stellar blade, GT7 to name a few . Comes down to the devs. This generation In general is wasn't good . How to many games came out half baked even from some AAA first and third party companies . PS5 PRO is a great product but not good timing considering the weird trend of unpolished games this generation . Next generation hardware won't fix this . Devs need to go back to the drawing board and fine tune there process .
People who brought the ps5 pro brought it on the assumption that we didn’t have to choose Sony seemed to lie 😔🤨
Sony didn't lie. It's not their fault if a different company brings out a crappy Pro patch. Look at all of the Sony 1st party releases have been good and so far consistently been Ubisoft titles that have implemented pro settings that have caused a stir.
Just have to face the fact that Ubisoft and Ea suck at optimising. Their games run like ass anyway, trusting them to newer software was never going to fare well.
UBSlop strikes again!
I've played star wars outlaws on the pro it looks really good play it and make your own decision
Or we can watch this DF video and not buy the Pro and pay the Concord tax.
yeah it's shit in all aspects.
How to fix ps pro upgrades, turn off the ps pro upgrades 😂😂😂
PSSR 1.0 is a fail
Yep just like FSR and DLSS. (Sighs in Sarcasm) 🙄💩🤡
Depends of the games... plenty of games (with a Pro enhancement) that show the potential of PSSR.
