I’m glad to hear you’re doing better and I hope even with brighter horizons you still have as good taste in music as you did back then. Music keeps us sane
Wow , a band that sound better live than they do on their studio album. Not something you see everyday. These guys will be big , incredible talent. Indie rock with a country twang.
i honestly only listen to the live stuff and download it to mp3. sorry but the studio album sounds tame and rushed somehow. i love how they change a lot of the songs in every gig! brilliant
As somebody who's been singing and playing guitar for a very long time, I. am still amazed by this guy's natural talent. I mean, sure, he put in work but the fact that he can sing like this at that age is just unbelievable to me. I am just now getting to the point where I feel comfortable singing things even close to what he's doing. and a lot of people would think that I'm talking more about the high notes or flourishments he puts on his vocals, but I'm not. The hardest part of the song is when he does the false etto into scream into vocal flourishment. If you know the part, you know the part. he slips seamlessly between punk country and indie, all within a few seconds. It's truly impressive from a vocal standpoint.
I'm referring to the I'll be underground line. I don't care how accomplished a vocalist you think you are Try to replicate that right now. LOL. Do it. Send me video proof. Lol
it's not the kit, it's the engineer. if you have a great player and even a decent set of drums, a good engineer can make it sound infinitely better. proper EQing and compression is all you really need. the audiotree guys probably use some analog rack gear too, which always helps. whoever engineered this is top notch. no disrespect to pinegrove but go listen to their CBS gig. sadly, you'll see what I mean, it's not near the quality. love these guys tho. crazy awesome.
Has anyone else noticed how he looks directly in the camera during and just before the lines "To help remind myself I wrote this little song.." and "One day I won't need your love..." It seriously fucks me up every time I watch this.
What gets me about this is that he spent dozens of hours perfecting the solo thinking about this relationship and how he has grown, and then tears the last linear progression to shreds, and every moment in that room practicing he was thinking about how this moment on audiotree was going to change his life, and it did. And so he says that line, delivers the solo perfectly and goes on to have a career most musicians never thought was possible. You are right, this moment is everything. This song and cadmium were groundbreaking pieces of music and I hope he remembers those days in his room when the best word he could come up with for what he had gone through was "aphasia". Beautiful.
Started college a few days ago and having recently found this band and relating so much to their lyrics at such a defining point in my life means so much to me. This band is staying in my heart for forever.
These guys emerged from my high school, one of the players is one of my good friends older brother. They even mention our town, Montclair, in several songs. So glad to see them grow :)
you are all missing the point of a live version then. why would the studio version sound like this? are they going to add more to it? its fine the way it is don't be stupid.
I would go ahead and give up on any actual good music going mainstream. People say rock is dead, while it is very much alive, you just need to dig a little deeper.
I'd consider this "taking off" they have a ton of plays on spotify, and have had a rather successful tour (its been nine months since you commented I know, but they've progressed in the music scene lots).
Joseph Stasio they haven’t toured for a year because of a sexually related accusation. If you read into it (pitchfork did a story) it wasn’t even physical and about how he had convinced a girl to leave a relationship for him. Honestly just sounds like any movie ever, super fucking lame they considered that enough to skewer these incredible talented beautiful people.
@@neonronin69 - That’s not quite what happened. The girl in question told her “psychiatrist” friend in confidence about the situation. That “friend” immediately made everything public (despite the girl not wanting it to be) to self promote her practice and try to throw Evan under a bus. The worst to come off it was the girl’s ridiculous demands that the band not tour for a year (despite their brand new album release) and Evan didn’t even do anything but get involved with an emotional wreck who used his fame for clout. Shame the whole band had to suffer for it too.
A friend recommended this band to me, which is out of my usual genre of listening material, but I am absolutely addicted to their music. I can loop this song repeatedly and not grow tired of it.
I love how they keep evolving and growing as they go...like the start of this version of the song is streets ahead of the album version. So good. Modern day Counting Crows.
I come back to this video and “nah things go wrong sometimes don’t let it freak you out.” And “one day I won’t define myself by the one I’m thinking of.” AAAND “plus one day you’ll be reaching for me and I’ll be gone.” Just to feel my 25 year old self again and falling in and out of love. It’s just soo good.
So satisfied I said a lot of things tonight So long Aphasia and the ways it kept me hiding It's not so much exactly all the words I used It's more that I was somehow down let them loose So complicated I can't wait to get explaining Your listening distended out since I've been crying So long Aphasia and the ways it kept me hidden So long to silent nerves and hesitant oblivion You came and sent me out unfurling in the street I felt unprecedented confidence in speaking Stick around I'm thinking things'll be alright Newly delivered, won't you live with me tonight? Something tonight was such a let down on my pride It takes a part of me I don't got to take some things in stride I'd pace around the place so quiet in myself I'd wake the next and see my silence went unfelt Just when I thought I had this pattern sorted out Apparently my ventricles are full of doubt, now Nah things go wrong sometimes Don't let it freak you out But if I don’t have you by me then I’ll go underground
Pinegrove, I just want you to know how much I love you and how much your music means to me. Now that Brand New's retiring, you are officially my favorite band. I love Cardinal, and there's not a day that goes by when I don't sing even some passing melody from it in the hustle and bustle of my routine. I hope I get to play a show with you guys one day.
I never read these lyrics but they literally describe my life. I’ve never been able to speak and I’ve never had this confidence but now someone’s finally given it to me. And now she’s all I want, despite all this newfound (or newly noticed at least) attention. She’s the only thing I think about.
Awesome rendition, best band playing this type of music out. My only critique would be that they should film a person who is soloing without cutting away
One day I won’t need your love One day I won’t be define myself by the one I’m thinking of And one day I won’t need it Then the be day you won’t need it
Audiotree always has the best sounding, best mixed sets. Whoever does the mixing deserves a raise.
It’s almost too good! Like the Lofi live sounding feeling of Pinegrove isn’t present! But it’s gorgeous and especially for learning music
Even the applause at the end sounds
*C R I S P Y*
I give the band a lot of credit for sounding great live. A lot of big name musicians are not half this good in person.
Absolutely
I see this comment in every KEXP/NPR video
“One day I won’t need your Love, one day I won’t define myself by the one I’m thinking of”
There are times I have to lock myself in a bathroom and scream that line
@@CrocusSeal friend, I wrote this comment when I was in a dark place. (5 years ago) There are brighter horizons, I promise.

@@ncpdew4599 I'm getting old and there aren't many more horizons I can see. But thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you found a better time

Look up Hiatus Kaiyote, The World it Softly Lulls.
This is the band I recommend to everyone.
oml someone finally put it into words
Saw them two weeks ago, and I second this comment
The "But if I don’t have you by me then I’ll go underground." part always gives me goosebumps. So much emotion.
I love how his voice breaks when he yells, usually that doesn't rub me the right way, but I love it here.

power farm beat
that dude is truly killer with the slide
Fucking love the way the drums sound.
I agree, this is the tone I always try to get
zack has such a simple kit but it sounds SO insane. hes amazing
dylan spare seriously though, I'm not sure what he's doing here (I'm a guitarist so hey) but his kit sounds so deep and full
it's not the kit, it's the engineer. if you have a great player and even a decent set of drums, a good engineer can make it sound infinitely better. proper EQing and compression is all you really need. the audiotree guys probably use some analog rack gear too, which always helps. whoever engineered this is top notch. no disrespect to pinegrove but go listen to their CBS gig. sadly, you'll see what I mean, it's not near the quality. love these guys tho. crazy awesome.

I'm leaving college in a few weeks, and I feel much the same. Pivotal times. Important band. Much love and good luck friend

The drums are borderline perfect, oh my god
everything is
Agreed
DYL and he's not even that technical it's just he is playing perfect for the guitars and singing.
yeah i was noticing that, dimming that beat at the start, it's perfect.
listen to the pinegrove - rings (pallet session) the drums are amazing
How do they manage to make so much out of 4 simple chords? I could watch this all day, I can't even say which is my favorite part...
Way better than the studio version
I agree. Feels more layered and emotional.
The bedroom version is the best version though
way, way better
Studio version sounds kinda pale after listening to this version tbh
you are all missing the point of a live version then. why would the studio version sound like this? are they going to add more to it? its fine the way it is don't be stupid.

Got to see Pinegrove for the first time live this Fall. What an absolute trip. This was my favorite song they performed.
Honestly this song means so much to me right now
Cool! 🖤👌
The first 15 seconds are literally heaven to my ears ❤
That fill at 4:20 is so stupid good.
YES
One of the most beautiful songs ever written
“one day i wont define myself by the one im thinking of” 💓
Some amazing shit here. I like this bassist better than the other. Grooves a bit better with the drummer, IMO, and sounds tighter.
He's the bass player of a band called Gulfer, check them out!
Really? That is sick. The drummer is from a band called Half Waif, who played on the last Pinegrove headlining tour.
Sean Marshall and he's lefty, that's cooler
Well that’s what the bassist is supposed to do
Lol
Awesome rendition, best band playing this type of music out. My only critique would be that they should film a person who is soloing without cutting away
Kellen True, really want to transcribe those tasty licks!
Rendition of what ? It sounds so familiar
This mix is increeeeeeeeeedible

i can't get over how good this sounds
I WILL NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF FOR DISCOVERING PINEGROVE JUST NOW. NEVER
One day I won’t need your love, one day I won’t define myself by the one I’m thinking of.
this is the best band ive ever heard in my life

I'm still waiting for these guys. Sigh
Still listen to this song, this version specifically, when I’m in my feelings.
beautiful song
Evan baby has nail polish on, what an angel
Such a great jam to end this awesome song!
MY favorite version of this track. First song and place I heard....

my favorite pinegrove song. how is this better than the album version!?

These guys are great live
everything about this is perfect.
Such a cool little groove at the end

Love the part starting at 3:45. White tele dude is rocking that slide. Wish there were tabs for both guitars!
true I have been trying to learn the intro part by ear but i can't tell which part is evan or the slide guitar
This is so good! wow
i hope you're doing okay, Ev

This is incredible!!!!!!!!! Wow.
my heart is rocking hard.
Love the little look Evan does at 3:07 like he does in the acoustic video on Emily Dubin's video at the same part.
One day I won’t need your love
One day I won’t be define myself by the one I’m thinking of
And one day I won’t need it
Then the be day you won’t need it

My fave song rn
That snare sounds huge!
When you sound better live then in your album although studio version is amazing as well
So talented wow
I miss this band so much.
They're back!
i'm in love with your hair
This is better than the album
Wow, this was brilliant
Anyone - what scale does he use to solo aphasia? I can’t figure it out
Man this is GREAT
4:30 - 4:40 is essence
i love u guys
ridiculously good
1:13. chills every time

its like magic. Still.
Ugh so good

the drummer looks like kenny florian.
So glad there's at least one other person who's into MMA and pinegrove haha
