Hello Josh, thanks for your great video. Just a small clarification, although we use pound Sterling in Gibraltar, our Gibraltarian pound is not legal tender in the UK, but you can use the UK pound and money in Gibraltar. The Gibraltarian pound is usually worth the same or actually a penny more than the UK pound. Recently, on the 4th of August 2024, it was exactly 320 years of the conquest of Gibraltar by the English / Dutch forces. Regards from British Gibraltar, British Forever. 🇬🇧🇬🇮🇬🇧🇬🇮🇬🇧🇬🇮
Spain is not making it difficult, racists in England did. When a minority of the English were lied into racist brexit, they did not care about any of their colonies (Scotland, Gibraltar, occupied northern Ireland, etc.)
Gibraltar is nothing other than a non-self-governing territory, subject to the process of decolonisation, in two words: a colony. It was included on the UN list of territories to be decolonised in 1963 and has remained there ever since. Since that year, therefore, the UN Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, the so-called Committee of 24, has included it among the territories within its competence. In 1964 this Committee reached a consensus on the situation in the Non-Self-Governing Territory of Gibraltar urging the United Kingdom and Spain to begin talks without delay in order to find a negotiated solution. The following year the General Assembly endorsed the terms of the consensus and invited both nations to begin such talks. Year after year the UN has maintained this mandate to the two states, which therefore remains in full force and effect. It is also worth noting that the UN calls for decolonisation in accordance with the principle of territorial integrity and not by virtue of any supposed right of self-determination of a hypothetical Gibraltarian ‘people’ (indeed, in 1967 it condemned the referendum held in Gibraltar). It does state that the interests of the people of Gibraltar must be heard. They have an excellent channel for that: the British Government. negotiations on sovereignty are a matter for London and Madrid alone. In short, for the UN what we have is a colonial situation that must be brought to an end. Disputes between countries must be resolved in accordance with international law, not on the basis of the proclaimed will of a people. The British have always abused our good faith and our moments of weakness. Spain voluntarily established a neutral zone, while maintaining its exclusive sovereignty. In 1815, for humanitarian reasons and because of a yellow fever epidemic, the British were authorised to use it temporarily to build a sanitary camp, but this zone was never returned. The airport was built in 1938, in the middle of the Spanish Civil War, on the usurped isthmus, under the misleading name of ‘emergency landing strip’, later converted into an aerodrome, airport and finally, an air base. The fence had to be opened in 1986 because of the risk of the British exercising their veto on Spain's entry into the EU. 30,000 offshore companies in Gibraltar, that money laundering mafia haven, and 60% of on-line gambling controlled by Gibraltar. Gibraltar now has the third highest per capita income in the world. it should not be ignored the tremendous damage caused in the area adjacent to the colony by the activity of the mafia gangs protected by the Gibraltar authorities. We could highlight tobacco smuggling. Tobacco smuggling causes a serious negative impact on employment every year, involving the destruction of 5,028 jobs in Andalusia. Of these, 2.2% would correspond to the tobacco sector, while the vast majority, 4,915 jobs, would have been lost in other activities that interact with this sector. Tobacco smuggling has caused a negative economic impact in Andalusia during 2015, of 780.3 million euros, of which 379.6 million euros corresponded to tax collection, which constitutes a loss of 28.3% of the total collection in the Community. And you also seem to ignore the enormous risk to the population posed by the use of the Colony as a repair center for the British nuclear submarine fleet. Since an accident could have devastating consequences for thousands of people. For example, the British nuclear-powered submarine HMS Triumph, which was involved in an incident at the Scottish base of Devenport, where a cooling failure caused a nuclear accident alarm due to overheating of the reactors of the submarines present at the base, including HMS Triumph. The Campo de Gibraltar lacks a nuclear emergency plan due to the submarines that call at Gibraltar SecurityMore than a hundred stops in the colony followed the controversial repair of the 'Tireless', more than 20 years ago. The European Parliament Resolution on the breakdown of the submarine HMS Tireless says, among other things, that, according to reports from the British Navy, led to the discharge of more than 200 liters of polluted water into the sea and a momentary overheating of the reactor, which caused a high risk of a nuclear accident, Considering that the port of Gibraltar and its facilities do not meet the necessary technical or safety requirements. for the population required by British law for repairs of nuclear submarines in terms of evacuation plans, facilities and specific machinery, nor the location requirements of these facilities, which are too close, in this case to a large number of populations and citizens ( less than 500 meters), Add to this the mafia money laundering activities carried out in the Colony, the bunkering and now the illegal filling of the coastline to build a real estate project that seriously damages an area of special ecological protection.
@@ahones2255 it seems like you have a vested interested, perhaps a Spaniard who is sour about the Gibraltan ‘people’ deciding they belong to a superior nation. Trying to argue that the Tabacco smuggling damages jobs in Andalusia, to support your point whilst also trying to smear online gambling to denigrate Gibraltars right to self determination is an odd one.
@@GoingGlobull Gibraltar has no right to self determination.. the UN calls for decolonisation in accordance with the principle of territorial integrity and not by virtue of any supposed right of self-determination of a hypothetical Gibraltarian ‘people’ (indeed, in 1967 it condemned the referendum held in Gibraltar). Rule Britannia. If the Spanish weren’t so soft they’d have Gibraltar. Imagine the one British territory in the Iberian Peninsula and the quality of life is beyond anything the Spanish can muster up. What’s your thoughts on Spanish North Africa?
if the original treaty in wich is based the status of Gibraltar is fully enforced Gibraltar should be isolated and cut off from Spain, also sea and air access should be blocked,in those conditions reaching GIB from the UK would be a bit difficult
Even though spain and the uk are nato allies, gibraltar is way too strategical for the uk to let go. Besides today we live in the 21st century and not the middle ages, we as Gibraltarians have a democratic right to decide our own future.
It isn't ours. A British citizen hasn't got the right to settle or open a bank account. They have all the benefits of being british but we, the british have no rights in Gibraltar !!!
@@onlineamiga your'e ull of shit. Unless you have a job contract or can show familiar or other ties to Gib you cannot settle there or open a bank account. You have no rights as a British citizen, not even to stay on your own dime !
Not actually true. 𝘼𝙣𝙮 British Citizen has the right of abode in Gibraltar and can open a Bank Account as long as the usual Anti-Money Laundering criteria are met, one of which is proof of residence.
No. Most tourists into Gibraltar are day trippers, because to be fair you can get round the whole place to do what you want to do in a day. So generally people don't go to Gibraltar for a 2 week holiday. A lot of the problems and backlash against tourism in other places, has been due to people purchasing property for air bnb and renting them out to tourists at crazy prices, which has pushed house prices up for locals. Gibraltar doesnt really have this problem. House prices are already crazy.
Im English and lived in La Linea and Gibraltar for 10 years. Very complicated place. If truth be known as long as the locals could maintain their independence they wouldn't care if they were British. Only move there if youre seriously wealthy. Normal folk struggle to live in Gibraltar.
Never , gibraltar is an outpost of the british army till the treaty ceases to be. All those "gibraltarians" were born in Spain in an military outpost, not a nation.
8:46... "We don't use this s*** Euro money"... and he said it in a tone of deep contempt. Seems like me as a German (and other nationalities from the continent) are not exactly welcome there. Good to know!
I think the comment was solely about the currency rather than anything else. When I have been to Gibraltar I have never seen any hostility towards any visitors.

Do you even know what Gibraltar means? No? It's Jabal Tarek. Look it up And do an episode on Sebta and Mellilia. The last 2 colonies in Africa on Moroccan soil. Colonized by who? Spain 😂
Great content as usual! One pedantic point: you use benefactor, when you mean beneficiary - the benefactor is the giver, and the beneficiary the recipient.
@GoingGlobull people in gibraltar never agreed to the racist brexshit and yet unscrupulous English colonial politicians and an unelected monarchy forced them out of the EU.
St george is the patron saint of genoa, catalonia, Ethiopia in addition to England. Hence his cross appearing in those places. It's not due to any English presence.
Except it is. It is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom The locals are full British Citizens. The British Monarch reigns over Gibraltar. The British Forces have a base there. It is self governing, but the UK has a responsibility over its defence and international affairs. The people of Gibraltar under their NATO rights of self determination voted overwhelmingly to be British.
you re misinformed my friend. gibraltar is a spanish territory temporarily under british control. but it will be spanish again eventually. obviously respecting the rights and properties of the local people.
@@NTL578 listen mate, you don t have to worry about at all about the shift of sovereignty. all your rights and properties will be garanteed by the spanish government. even the english language for administration will be mantained, along with the spanish language as well of course.
-did Ingurland lose at football again? That’s not like Ingurland. 😅 Didn’t 98% of Gibraltans vote to remain in the EU? - but they were dragged out into the Sun Lit uplands of brexthickland.
It's a melting pot. Yes some spanish chains are there, Cepsa, Eroski etc. But there are also plenty of British brands there too, Morrisons, Marks and Spencers. Its the best of both worlds! But just because there are Spanish brands doesn't make it Spanish. Is Spain German because its full of Aldis and Lidls? no
@Bornnotmade It is but there are alot of Moroccan people who live there also. There is a large mosque near the light house. The Jewish people have a synagogue in the centre near the park. I lived there for 10 years so I know it's more diverse than what your saying.
You talk all that nonsense about immigrants in the UK. But then claim a island that's not yours as British. That's why Britain belongs to the world no such thing as English.
The Spanish, wanted the whole continent of the Americas. They colonised islands upon islands. All countries have had territorial wars, some fared better than others, and only the successful nations are far better off for it these days.
@@omy9116 You seem to forget the many other countries that colonised other lands and regions closer to home. The British are just the most famous. The Americans have bases all over the world and have taken advantage of many other nations. That and cultural colonialism.
Gibraltar it's incredible I love it. And Spain should respect it's incredible neighbours. But I believe the UK should return Gibraltar as other colonies (UN still consider Gibraltar a colony). At least give Gibraltar what deserves, independence.
Oh pls sh ut up with your nonsense. Gibraltar is NOT a "colony"! It's an overseas territory. Why is every country in Europe allowed to have overseas departments, but when it's the UK oh no it's a "colony"?! Gibraltar has it's own government and identity, THEY are the ones who don't want to be Spanish, even when half of them have at least 1 Spanish parent!😂 Go and tell France and Netherlands to give their overseas territories independence too then and stop wagging fingers at Britain.

The Campo de Gibraltar lacks a nuclear emergency plan due to the submarines that call at Gibraltar
SecurityMore than a hundred stops in the colony followed the controversial repair of the 'Tireless', more than 20 years ago.
Rule Britannia. If the Spanish weren’t so soft they’d have Gibraltar. Imagine the one British territory in the Iberian Peninsula and the quality of life is beyond anything the Spanish can muster up.
What’s your thoughts on Spanish North Africa?
if the original treaty in wich is based the status of Gibraltar is fully enforced Gibraltar should be isolated and cut off from Spain, also sea and air access should be blocked,in those conditions reaching GIB from the UK would be a bit difficult
but can it ever really ever be truly be called British, without a Wetherspoon? 😄
Yeah we are missing a weatherspoons in Gib, and a Boots. Closest to spoons is The Clipper in Irish Town.
Wrong. You can go live in Gibraltar if you like and open a bank account, start a business etc. I know plenty of people who have done it.

Have any of the locals yet said ‘fk off to tourists’? 😂
Link up w/ bald already, it's overdue by now 😂
Im English and lived in La Linea and Gibraltar for 10 years. Very complicated place.
If truth be known as long as the locals could maintain their independence they wouldn't care if they were British.
Only move there if youre seriously wealthy. Normal folk struggle to live in Gibraltar.
Great Video
I bet the history you showed is not taught in British schools

Gibraltar is Spanish.
Colonisers
That is what YOU want, but the cold, hard fact is that Gibraltar is british and not spanish.
There's always one 🤦♂
Never , gibraltar is an outpost of the british army till the treaty ceases to be. All those "gibraltarians" were born in Spain in an military outpost, not a nation.

I think the comment was solely about the currency rather than anything else. When I have been to Gibraltar I have never seen any hostility towards any visitors.
Don't worry, I didn't take the whole video seriously! 😮😂
I'm gibraltarian, born here ,work here and live here. All tourists are welcome as long as they are well behaved and respectful

It is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom

You talk all that nonsense about immigrants in the UK. But then claim a island that's not yours as British. That's why Britain belongs to the world no such thing as English.
