Yes, Michael Jackson and Barry Gibb doing backing vocals on this brilliant track. 😊 There's an extended version of this track, where you hear more BVs by both of them. 🙂
If I remember correctly… The Bee Gees (brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice) had a super successful career based out of London in the late 60’s, and had been a successful kid act in Australia before that…. as the Jackson 5 had in the US, so shared a lot in common. The Gibbs relocated to the US in the 70’s, re-invented themselves for another decade and for the US market, relaunching their career with JIVE TALKIN in 1975 and dominating until 1979 when the disco backlash started. They were then pretty much blackballed from the radio, so they (mostly Barry) wrote and produced super successful whole albums for others, including Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, and Diana Ross, before relaunching in 1987 with YOU WIN AGAIN, setting a record for #1’s in the most consecutive decades. Because Barry and MJ had become close friends, and knowing MJ’s close relationship with Ms Ross, Barry asked MJ if he wanted in on what was the title song of the album he was writing and producing for her. Barry wrote it and sent the demo to MJ to tweak, but MJ majorly changed it to what you hear. Barry did not release his original demo when he released the other demos for Ms. Ross. There’s an official video for Eaten Alive that’s a bit scary, so it would have been ideal for Halloween!! The star song of the album, though was CHAIN REACTION with an awesome official video. It’s very 80’s while also mirroring her Motown roots. I highly recommend it!!!. Barry and MJ also collaborated on a song called ALL IN HIS NAME, and Barry released it after MJ’s death along with a video of them in the studio together for the recording. Please react to it if you haven’t already. Another bit of MJ trivia is that he used to call Barry and ask him to sing his favorite Bee Gees song HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART to help him sleep. Please react to it. The lead vocal at the beginning is by Robin Gibb, and then transitions to Barry, with Maurice coming in on the 3 part harmonies.
Thank you for this super insightful info and background story, really interesting. I thought I heard that high pitched noise one of the B Gees singers is famous for at the beginning! That'll explain it! It's so cool to know there are MJ songs out there awaiting for me to explore!
Yes, MJ is back😊i😅❤NG vocals 😊 Regarding the video, a man ashes ashore an island after a wreck. He walks through a jungle and meets Diana Ross. In the meantime being watched by mutant half human/animal creatures. Eventually, she turns into a panther and attacks he man, eating him alive.
Got that HEAVY 'gated reverb' that Phil and Peter 'invented'! Diana Ross is quality.....if you prefer Disco dance music (and I did in the day). MJ's 'Thriller' influence is very apparent.
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions It was just reported that Quincy Jones passed away. Did you know he produced 3 MJ album which went on to sell over 150 million copies? One of which was Thriller! QJ also worked with Phil Collins on the Band Aid effort for famine relief in Ethiopia in 1984. After that, when Collins started his Big Band, he asked Quincy to direct it at the 30th Montreux Jazz Festival in 1996. Here is the link to their performance of the Genesis tune 'Los Endos': ua-cam.com/video/JT5UslpgPUA/v-deo.html
You should have watched the video that goes with the song, though it's not high quality. It helps tell the story, influenced by The Island Of Doctor Morau.
Hi Steve , thankfully Halloween over even though it’s originally an Irish celebration of the dead called Samhain ( pronounced Sauron) we took to the US when a million emigrated during the famine and as Americans do they corrupted it an exported it back , history aside as it’s November you need to do November rain by guns n roses
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions Well I meant it explains your tastes that go more towards 80's and 90' music then towards prog. But please continue the journey into weird music. Wherever it comes from.
By the way, if you do make it over here for Halloween, let me know. There is nothing like it here in New York. We'll take you to the Greenwich Village parade. The best one in the world, hands down.
How this wasn't a worldwide hit is beyond me!
Agreed, still can't believe an MJ tune has evaded me for so long!

Always happy for more MJ!

Cool bit of hallowe'en disco fun (with an 80's twist)!

Excuse the type. Problem with phone.
That's one hell of a random topic to be singing about, I bet the official video helps tell it too!

Yeah this had a lot of MJ vibes for me, hence why I probably loved it so much!

Really. MJ is the backing vocalist, as in Rockwell "Somebody’s Watching Me", other great "halloween" song.

Hahahaha nice little segway into your request there 🤣...nicely played!
Well, the song was written by two BeeGees and Michael Jackson and the latter does sing backgroundvocals...
Makes a whole lot of sense now!
Correct !! MJ signing uncredited. MJ and Diana were very close nudge nudge. Cool song eh. Also, one of the Bee Gees was a part of the production.
Oooo a bit of Hollywood goss there!!!
MJ hidden in a song? Try Centipede by Rebbie Jackson.
Ahaha so you are an MJ fan ! That explains a lot. Great tune anyway. Thanks…
🤣🤣 not sure what you mean by that 🤣🤣

Uh...the less said, the better. US Roadie 1 signing off..
🤣, short and sweet analysis
